Work has been so busy lately I can hardly think straight. So here I am at 4:00 on a Friday afternoon, and I only now realized that I forgot to put together a preview blog for January's upcoming Shattered Star set of Pathfinder Battles prepainted fantasy miniatures!
I want to keep this week's preview short and sweet, and honestly the best way to do that is to focus on one of the set's sweetest miniatures: the Wyvern.
Check out this masterful miniature!
This figure is amazing. I'd place it among the 10 most impressive figures in the Shattered Star set (yes, that means there are still plenty of jaw-droppers we haven't revealed yet). Best of all, this guy is an UNCOMMON.
Watch out, horses!
And here's a nice little size comparison to show what the Wyvern looks like next to a Medium-sized figure, in this case our iconic cleric Kyra!
So yeah, there's that. This Large figure is super-cool, but there are even cooler figures coming!
And there's also big movement behind the scenes on the Pathfinder Battles front. One of the reasons I'm so tired this week is that I've spent most of my waking hours deciding on the contents of the next TWO SETS worth of miniatures for our friends at WizKids, along with more than 100 images for their sculptors to get to work on immediately.
2013 is going to be an absolutely Gargantuan year for Pathfinder Battles!
No preview blog next week, as yours truly will be enjoying turkey with family for Thanksgiving. After that, though, I promise something extra-delicious in Pathfinder Battles Preview Land!

I agree. That is a dynamic pose. And making this an Uncommon is great. Putting two or three of these on the table at one time will make for a bit of excitement. I like!
A preview this good can keep me for going for a couple of weeks.
That is a very nice looking Wyvern indeed. I like the skinniness of it compared to the older version that exists. Plus, with it being uncommon, I suppose you can get enough to paint 1 or 2 pitch black and terrorize people properly in a Runelords campaign.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Yeah, at first I though green would be better. I think it looks great, incredible dynamic pose, far better than the two previous PPM, although I still like the shaggy beast. As a prior postee noted the colour should also make doubters feel better about the colour of the big blue, won't be anywhere near as glow in the dark. Best fact - uncommon! So if you want green, you can probably repaint. Or wait for the encounter pack (he says hopefully) that contains the repainted black and green wyverns (thats two separate wyverns, not some crazy barber shop pole wyvern).
So glad you contiinued the scale pics Erik. Just brings home how cool that mini is. As for cooler minis? I may suffer a cool embolism - the gug, now this, and theres morre EVEN COOLER minis! Oh My Giddy aunt!
As for the Gargantuan hint, I think Erik already stated case incentives will be Garg from now on, so he may be tapping in to that. Of course if we get a series of 1 off gargantuan releases who am I to complain. I still hold out for the HUGE "encounter" sets - 1 dragon, 1 giant, 2 others in a box (Frogemoth, Leng spider, Shoggoth?) to fill out those mostly vacant huge gaps in the collection.
That's okay Erik, I was pretty sure you couldn't say at this time, but hopefully my query shows a hint of sets I'd like to see in the future (and others will see it and make their wishes known too). :)
And, of course, I am very curious to hear what those future sets that you're deciding/contemplating are. (All in good time I know).
Where is the promised preview from Friday? ;-)
The next set will probably be "Reign of Winter", which is cool in my opinion (no pun intended).
And yes, it was only a question of time until a set with Gargantuan "minis" whould come out - there are enough monsters in Bestiary 1-3 who deserve a treatment...
Last time you wrote in 2 weeks, that should have been Friday the 30th...
Do we get one before Friday 7th or will the next one be doublesized? ;-)
Congratulations on the quality of the minis, they are getting constantly better. I got a full set of "Heroes and Monsters" and half of "Rise of the Runelords" including the Black dragon and Rune Giant.
The only problem is, the humanoid figures (human, elf, dwarf...) look absolutly horrible in the face with exception of the very cool Beginner Box Heroes.
We have seen the official images of 26 of the 55 minis.
Amazon is showing a release date of January 28 for these miniatures. This means we have 7 Fridays left for reveals until their release. I'm also going to assume that 1 of those Fridays are going to get eaten up by the Holiday season. So this means that 4.83 figures should be previewed every Friday now, to complete the 29 officially released images we haven't seen yet. (Of course I would prefer to see whole figures and not .83 of a figure.)
So now, with the schedule laid out, only one question yet remains. What has Paizo done with Erik? Please free him from whatever gelatinous cube which has swallowed him up. Please understand that us plasti-crack addicts have needs too :)

Hi Kor,
we have seen 36 of 55 minis, so 19 are missing. ;-)
And amazon.com lists February 28 as release date, so we have 11 fridays left for 19 figures...
Still, waiting 4 weeks for a new preview sucks! ;-p

Well, only 26 production proofs have been "officially" revealed and displayed. 4 miniatures (the remaining elementals) have been declared but not yet displayed. 6 miniatures have been displayed through third party sources, but do not show the production proofs. So currently, we are waiting for the remaining 29 production proofs to the revealed.
Thanks for noting the updated release date of February 28th. This now gives Erik a little more breathing room for releasing them a few at a time :)
Never trust Amazon for release dates in our industry! They often make up their own dates, apparently using some process that has very little to do with reality.
Unless something unexpected happens, the official release date for the Shattered Star minis will probably be 1/23.

So I am not the only one who feels a bit abandoned ;)
Oh, and very early on (in one of his comments to the hill giant) Eric announced that there will be a fire giant in this set, which is still missing in the Shattered Star gallery.
