I didn't know if you were waiting on us to do something or what we were doing so I put up a post to start us moving again I am good with Bran's plan.
Sion will go with Edward. not wearing armor.

Bran of Tisbury |

We have a detailed description of the area, and now we have all the info we need.
Do they have hooded lanterns in this world? Or some kind of mobile light source that can be covered to only shed light on a narrow area?
If so, this is what I suggest. Tell the prisoners to hold tight. Then we wait for full dark. We remove our armor and sneak into the camp in the dark, and find the men while they are sleeping or standing watch. We either swarm them and kill them in a surprise round 1 by 1 if they are spread out, or we merc them in their sleep. Then we bash the women upside the head while they are sleeping to knock them out (nonlethal). The kids we ignore. Once the men and women are handled we just cut the prisoners free and walk home.
Worst case scenario, they spot us and we have to fight them all, but the women won't be able to use bows in the dark.

Sion of Pitton |

rescue the prisoners and then light the building they were in on fire. When they come to fight the fire attack the men with bows. We need to make use of the advantages we have. Our superior armor and our horses. Once the men are down getting the women to surrender will be easier.

Bran of Tisbury |

Which is why we should kill the men while they are sleeping. In the dark bows are useless for us and them. We'll only be able to see a few feet, if that. Sneaking up and CDGing the ones who are sleeping starts the potential battle off with a couple of almost guaranteed kills. If we roll well on stealth we might never even take an attack.
Thanks to the modified HP rules we're using, they aren't going to do down quickly if we duke it out more traditionally.
I'd be willing to keep my armor on, but that lowers our chances of successfully sneaking by a lot.

Bran of Tisbury |

I can give my speech again, but you already know how I feel about that. How knightly of them was it to attack and murder innocent farmers? Or to ambush a knight from hiding and capture him for ransom? Being "knightly" will just increase our chances of getting killed.

Bran of Tisbury |

Well, they'd be left alone of course. And the women would be un (lethally)harmed. I'm talking only about the men. I agree with Sion that the women will probably surrender if their men go down.
I'd be willing to relocate the women and children to Tisbury as serfs once the men are dealt with.

Edward of Cholderton |

I agree, but it doesn't mean we still shouldn't do it. And just because a bandit did something doesn't mean it's ok for a knight. Even if we're the most effective strike force in the world we'll be viewed as cravens if we go around slitting throats of sleeping men. In any other PbP I would do that, but we have certain ideals to hold up here.

Bran of Tisbury |

Alright, well if we're not going to do stealth, we may as well ride in there now in full armor and just cut them down while we still have light to see with.

Sion of Pitton |

How about this. Edward and Sion sneak back in and get Sir Jaradan and the others out. Then we wait until dawn and attack then when they are the least alert.

Bran of Tisbury |

That also works for me. But in that case I'd want Raedwald and I standing by in full armor, mounted with the other two horses and dog ready to fight too.

Sion of Pitton |

So the plan is for Edward and Sion to sneak back in and bring out Sir Jaradan and the others. While Bran and Raedwald standby armored and mounted to rescue us all if something goes wrong. If all goes well we wait until dawn then attack. If Sir Jaradan and the other member of his party that isn't sick are upto it they can join in the attack. Not sure how we would arm them though. Sir Jaradan could use Sion's armor, and sword possibly while Sion uses a bow. We suprise them at dawn and eliminate the three men first. Then hopefully we can get the women to surrender in order to protect their children.
We may want to make some concessions to the women. As it is they are under threat of exacution for banditry. We could reduce the sentance to enslavement or something like that. Let them keep their children and their lives.
What are your thoughts?

Bran of Tisbury |

Like I said before, they can move to Tisbury and become serfs. They'll need to find their own husbands though. Perhaps we could split them between our lands so as not to soak up all the bachelors in one spot.

Bran of Tisbury |

Yeah, my posting rate has been affected across all my games by unexpected increases in RL work and stuff. I'd be fine with summary, since we're going to win.
Are we playing a prewritten adventure, or are you homebrewing this? If homebrew, where is the game headed?

Sion of Pitton |

If that is what you decide to do that is okay with me.
Edward I think we should focus on defeating the bandits since we can't move the prisoners.

Jubal Breakbottle |

It's a published chronology of Arthur's rise and fall. I've got many set adventurers that occur along that chronology. The winter phase will play an important part of character development to design your family.
In the grand scheme of things, this bandit fight is not any driving plot. At most, it is developing your characters by demonstrating how you treat different people. At least, it's generating experience. You will level after this event regardless. You are only fighting bandits, because you wanted to fight bandits. I created an encounter to give you some drama. Otherwise, you would have heard that Sir Jaradan took care of it.
Is that relatively clear? Thanks for asking.
cheers

Bran of Tisbury |

Alright, so presumably something else will happen along our patrol of the kingdom to draw us into some plot.
Yeah, lets speed this along as much as possible. Since the bandits don't seem to want to surrender, Bran will kill them. Then he'll send the women and children to be servants/serfs at Tisbury or split them with the other knights if they want.

Raedwald of Broughton |

Rolling for Vigor increase.
Vigor: 1d10 ⇒ 10
Nice! So...do I level my mount this time, or is there some catch? I haven't really played classes with animal companions before.

Sion of Pitton |

vigor roll: 1d10 ⇒ 5
This is what I get for playing a class I am unfamiliar with. I should have put more points into wisdom so I could make use of the ranger spells. I am going to go with another level of ranger and start actually using my falcon in combat from now on.

Bran of Tisbury |

Level Up
Nother level of Barbarian (Mad Dog)
Vigor:1d12 ⇒ 3 shitty..so 7 instead. +1 favored class.
+6 skill ranks
+1 BAB
+1 fort save
Blaidd
+5 vigor
+1 BAB
+1 fort/+1 ref
+1 str.

Jubal Breakbottle |

While I'm providing you information, please don't take them as plot hooks yet. Your knights responsibilities are to the Patrol and County. The point of this part is for your knights to become experienced so when Arthur pulls the sword, you will be experienced captains for his cause.
I've other plot hooks coming. As soon as everyone is leveled, I'll start the next encounter.

Raedwald of Broughton |

Now THAT...is a gut punch!
Good one, Jubal! I freakin' LIVE for drama like this! :D
Raedwald's gonna WRECK these Saxons' sorry asses! They wouldn't be able to air it on the news because it'LL BE SO BRUTAL!!!

Bran of Tisbury |

My posting may be sporadic for the next few days. My grandfather passed away last week and we're getting ready for the funeral.
Sorry to hear that!
I made the map and sent it to Jubal, but he's been away from his home country I believe.

Sion of Pitton |

I am sorry to say that I am going to have to absent myself from the boards for awhile. Some real life things have come up, and I can't take the time to play or run any games. Sorry to let you all down like this. I have enjoyed playing with you all and hope my leaving won't be too much of an inconvenience. To those of you in my Skull and Shackles game I can't tell you how sorry I am to disappear on you all like this. I said I would finish at least the first book of the AP but it just isn't possible right now.

Jubal Breakbottle |

OK I would like to address Bran's significant allergy to the Wounds and Vigor rules.
I would like to propose this replacement:
- Everyone gets maximum hit points (HP)
- Losing 50% of your HP makes one fatigued
- Losing 80% of your HP makes one exhausted
- Losing 100% of your HP makes one disabled
- Losing 100% of your HP & 100% of your Constitution makes you dying
Questions, comments, suggestions?
cheers
