GM Zed |
With a rehearsed opening of the door whilst everyone stands ready to attack what lies beyond, the door is pushed open...revealing an uninhabited room...
The walls of this room have been crudely painted with various monsters...and huge goblins riding mammoth sized goblin dogs...A plush, human-sized bed stands in this chamber, along with a table holding a bone scroll tube and jars filled with eyeballs, claws, and teeth. Various automaton parts lie scattered around...mostly dented, scratched or scorched...
Map Update to follow
General note to everyone...start thinking about L2 for your characters, it won't be long now...
Yasmin al Akbar |
Yasmin checks out the room for magical auras. [ooc]Detect magic.[/ooc[
GM Zed |
Ea - some of the paint is relatively fresh whilst some, flaking from the walls, is possibly hundreds of years old. It doesn't appear to depict any particular event...more just a crudely stylised representation of goblins being militarily superior to other creatures. Also, there is absolutely no artistic value to any of the paintings...
Yasmin al Akbar |
"Well, this scroll tube looks interesting" says Yasmin as Rallos identifies it. She seems very quick to take the tube and open it up herself.
GM Zed |
Turning the scroll tube over in his hands, Rallos gently probes and measures, trying to determine whether the tube itself is trapped….satisfied that that the scroll tube is safe, he hands it back to Yasmin who removes the lid and withdraws a Scroll of Parchment with a Single Rune painted on it , (Click for Image).
There is nothing else of interest or value in this room.
Grayface |
Grayface looks over Yasmin's shoulder at the parchment. "Is that magic of some kind? Can you read it?"
Yasmin al Akbar |
"Strange, I'm not sure I recognize anything like this. Maybe it's tied to the magic of this place." Yasmin had not paid as much attention as she ought to in her training as a youth, but she studies the parchment closely, trying to understand. Read Magic. Spellcraft or Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Yasmin al Akbar |
"Maybe this'll make more sense if we find more of these parchments. Shall we try this last door across the hall?"
GM Zed |
Opening the double doors, you find yourself on the opposite side of the green spire that you previously discovered heading down into the ground. Here, a spiral set of stairs lead upwards around the green stone…from outside the ruins, it seemed that the central tower was two storeys tall – it is these stairs that presumably lead to the areas upstairs.
Not that anything bad is going to happen!!! But, if you are going to head upstairs, what is your ‘Marching Order’?
Grayface |
I propose that myself or Rallos be at the front. I have a decent AC and moderate HP, while Rallos has the perception and stealth to also make him a good candidate.
Yasmin al Akbar |
"So, are we headed up the stairs? Why don't we send the gentlemen up first. We'll be right behind you."
Rallos Therinor |
I agree....Gray, lead the way. I will be right behind you. Go slow...haste might make us miss things. Let's go.
I think order should be Gray, Rallos, Yasmin, Emarald then Ea. Any thoughts?
Grayface |
Grayface looks to his companions to ensure they appear ready to proceed, then begins to climb the emerald tower.
GM Zed |
As you climb the stairs, you pass a storey filled with rubble, the walls caved in and the snow blowing into the building...moving last the wreckage, you approach the top of the stairs where, the steps end at sturdy door.
Rallos, Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Grayface, Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Yasmin, Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
I have only allowed the first three in the group to make a check as the curvature of the stairs prevents a clear view of the top of the stairs towards the back of the group
Unnoticed by you, an arrow slit in the door is quietly opened and, before he can get to the door, Grayface finds himself being used for target practice...asan arrow thumps into Grayface's shoulder, someone / something roars from behind the door, "I told you to stay away...this is my place!!!" Whoever is behind the door does not sound shrill like a goblin...this is something else....
Surprise Round
Grulk, Composite Longbow vs Grayface (Favoured Enemy - Humans): 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 2 = 19, hitting for 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7
Initiative Check for Party / Enemy
Grayface, Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Rallos, Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Emerald, Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Ea, Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Yasmin, Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Grulk, Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Initiative Order
Grayface then
Grulk then
Rallos, Yasmin, Ea and Emerald
Grayface may take his turn
Grayface |
"Hmmmpprrrph" Grayface takes the blow and hides his pain. He shoves his shield up against the arrow slit to prevent further sneak attacks. "You're gonna die boy. I am gonna rip your head off and toss it from the tower walls, this I swear."
Not sure if this will work from behind a door, but its worth a shot.
Intimidate to demoralize: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
"That arrow hit me deep. I could use a heal before we open the door," Gray snarls with clenched teeth.
Rallos Therinor |
Gray, shove your shield right against the arrow slit....he can't shoot out of it if the shield is in the way.
With that, Rallos goes forward to try and support Gray.
Hey Mr. GM-type person, what race does Grulk appear to be? would we be able to tell?
Ea Zalinsel |
Emarald, use the wand on Grayface's wound, you're closer than me.
Even if the words are kind and caring, there is no human warmth behind them. Ea is just stating a fact.
GM Zed |
Rallos – through the door, which is quite solid, it is impossible to tell who or what fired upon Grayface.
Grayface’s shield fully covers the arrow slit within the door, ”Damn You…”, there is a click as the arrow slit is slid closed…followed by the noise of the something / someone moving away from the door…
Grayface’s Intimidate Check failed to Demoralize the enemy
Everyone may take their turn now
Yasmin al Akbar |
"You coward!" cries Yasmin in frustration. She moves up the stairs and tries the door.
Rallos Therinor |
Rallos breaks out his tools...ready to open the lock.
I have a plan....it might seem weird...but hear me out anyways. Gray and Ea, make a lot of noise...I don't want him hearing anything.
Rallos then details his plan to everyone...whispering it to each person so it cannot be overheard.
Grayface |
Thank you Em." The warrior looks from Emerald to his wound, satisfied that it had gone from open and bloody to closed and pink.
In response to Rallos' request, Grayface slams his shield repeatedly against the sturdy door, trying to make as much racket as possible.
Rallos Therinor |
While Gray is beating on the door, Rallos checks for a trap on the door, then diligently works the lock mechanism....trying to be as quiet as he can. But
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
disable device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Yasmin al Akbar |
As Rallos tucks away his thieves tools, Yasmin readies her magics to daze the enemy, should he be in range.
Grayface |
Referring to your post in discussion...
"CLANG--Sounds like--CLANG--a good--CLANG--plan--CLANG--Rallos.--CLANG"
Gray flashes a rare smile as he bashes the door, making enough noise to wake the dead...which in this tower isn't that far-fetched.
Rallos Therinor |
Rallos readies his rapier, and holds up his hand.
is everyone ready? This might get hairy. Not as hairy as Gray....but hairy nonetheless.... Rallos says with a chuckle.
On 3....1....2......3!
Rallos flings open the door for Gray and follows him in...
GM Zed |
As the door swings open, you see standing behind it a large goblinoid creature…towering above the height of any normal goblin, it’s blackened skin is covered by short coarse fur…it’s bow raised and arrow nocked, it’s mouth turns upwards in a cruel sneer.
I’m not sure which of Rallos' two strategies you have actually decide to take…I think, from the way you are proceeding, it is the option where Yasmin casts Daze and Gray charges in?
Assuming that you are taking the ‘Daze / Charge’ option, I reckon three characters have Readied Actions: Grayface (Move / Attack or Charge as appropriate), Yasmin (Daze) and Grulk (fire on first enemy to pass through door)
So the order of actions should probably be: Yasmin casts Daze, Grulk fires upon Grayface, Grayface attacks
Initiative Order will then be:
Rallos, Yasmin, Ea and Emerald then
Grulk then
Grayface
Does that sound like your plan? Make Sense? If so...Yasmin can start with casting Daze...
I don't have access to the map for a few hours so, if possible, could someone move your enemy five foot to the east (it took a five foot step on a previous post that I didn't update on the map)...thanks
GM Zed |
Grulk, Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5, failed, Grulk is Dazed for 1 round
Yasmin incants something strange and wondrous, instantly captivating the creature behind the door...it's arrow remains nocked on the bow string...oblivious to the charging human racing through the opened door.
Everyone may take their turn now
Rallos Therinor |
Rallos moves by Gray and positions himself for a flanking attack, attempting to eviscerate the goblinoid.
I cant move my token, i am on my tablet. I will move to get flanking opposite Gray.
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 231d6 ⇒ 51d6 ⇒ 1
Ea Zalinsel |
Ea place herself wisely while the big goblinoid is still dizzy, and strikes at the first opportnutity.
trying to get a flanking bonus
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Once again, she words her gloomy motto
Let Fate be.
Grayface |
I also can't edit (or even see the whole...)map while I'm at work.
Grayface doesn't hesitate after Yasmin releases her spell.
"AAAAARRRHGH!"
Charge: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 2 = 11 ...I hate the anticlimactic rolls...
Yasmin al Akbar |
I don't know if Yasmin is supposed to get another action or not, but she's sitting pretty anyway.
GM Zed |
The volley of attacks against the dazed goblinoid meet mixed success...Emerald's stone, despite her best efforts, misses...Ea swings wild...and, Grayface, over enthusiastically following Rallos' plan somehow conspires to trip over his own feet. Rallos however, slides quietly behind the large monster and slides a knife between its ribs...
The searing pain brings the goblinoid to it's senses...and, drawing it's Morning Star, it swings at the Tiefling who had stabbed him.
Grulk, Morning Star vs Rallos: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14, missing
Everyone may take their turn now
Grayface |
"I look forward to watching your head tumble in the snowy grass, after I toss it out the tower."
Attack vs Grulk: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Ea Zalinsel |
Ea steps backs and utters a grim prayer to Pharasma. Her fingers entwine the gray threads of Fate, constricting the creature's arms, hindering its moves, slowing its reflexes
5 feet step back, then cast Doom, DC 14
