Foxy Quickpaw |
Being a dragon turtle in proximity to Trytton is no good life. The turtle is blasted to bits, the water turns red from the blood of the beast.
With the dragon turtle held back (for at least three rounds) the Kraken sailed through the Iris' Splinters.
Trytton and Besmara must hurry to get onboard again as the Kraken steers for the Storm, the Eye of Abendego.
DC25 Prof(Sailor) please to navigate into the storm.
Lito de'Anora |
Sailor: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
Lito keeps the ship on course to run past the turtle.
As Besmara pulls herself dripping on deck Lito looks over with a leer.
Captain, you may want to change out of that wet shirt before you grab the helm, because you look like every man’s Mermaid fantasy right now.
He glances back at the sinking remains of the Dragon Turtle.
An avenging Mermaid perhaps given what you did to that turtle, but still Damn distracting.
Besmara __ |
"I had nothing to do with the death of that monster. I just wanted to play bait to keep it from the ship. But Trytton is in his element here." Besmara replies. Looking down at herself she shrugs. "Then I'll add to the challenge. With that weather we're in now, it makes no difference anyway."
Foxy Quickpaw |
Just that second lightning strikes and hit the foremast.

Storm Hazard: 1d100 + 60 - 1d20 - 14 - 6 ⇒ (14) + 60 - (1) - 14 - 6 = 53 Violent Swell
As the storm rages, a large violent wave hits the Kraken and threatens to knock everyone off their feet Ref DC15. Butthe worse part is that the hull of the ship breaks at two places. The Kraken's hull is
punctured and it immediately begins to sink.
No solution given for this Hazard. Time to become creative, or die a wet and cold death.
Estelle Numbduster |
After seeing the lighting strikes, Estelle forms up 2 crews to patch the ship. Estelle will lead the first crew with Flipps on the second to help repair.
Estelle C. Ship: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26
Flipps C. Siege Engine for 1/2??: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
well they are the same roll despite the VAST different in bonuses, sometimes that is how the die rolls.
Besmara __ |
That's actually not the worst idea. It would be a tad better if we could stuff the hole from the outside, but then you'd need to be able to breathe underwater. Which is why I am borrowing your idea now.
Besmara hands the steering wheel to Lito again and jumps into the sea. Turning into a manta ray she swims around the ship and checks where the hole is. As soon as she finds it, she covers it with her body until Estelle could fix it from the inside.
Be careful though. Don't nail the captain. At least not that way. :P
Estelle Numbduster |
Estelle hauls over some boards and starts to fix the hole in the ship.
"We have to move faster ye land lubbers." Estelle does her best to motivate the crew.
Foxy Quickpaw |
The crew is highly motivated, as they really don't want to die by drowning in the Eye of Adendego. With Besmara blocking the one hole and Noonan with his endless constitution manages to cling to the other, while holding his breath, Estelle is able to close the holes at least good enough that the water can be pumped out faster than it flows in.
As the Kraken comes out of the worst of the storm, it is a wreck. Lying much too deep in the water, some of the sails torn and everyone busy getting the water out. Winning a race is suddenly no priority any more.
In front of you lies the Sharkskin Reef and the Pinnacle Atoll. Another complex part of the route with a fair chance to run the ship on ground.
Foxy Quickpaw |
Race score -6 for -8
As the Kraken heads out of the Eye of Abendego, an unnatural electrical squall strikes and a corona of baleful green lightning limns their ship’s mainmast.
Noonan2 |
Noonan claws his way back up to the deck and lies down for a second gasping for air. Place on council not worth wrecked ship. better free to sail the seas than butt stuck in chair.

Lito keeps directing everyone to make sure they get the most out of them while he steers the ship.
Captain, Do you want up on the mast? I think I know a trick to get you up near the thing.
Did Level up, only major thing is I got Fireball, Flaming Sphere, Burning Hands and Jesters Jaunt for new spells
Lito de'Anora |
Only thing I can do is shoot a bow, Here take the wheel.

Had the empower already calculated in. But as Nonaan pointed out: The elemental rolled a nat 1 and didn't hit Trytton.
Trytton shoots again, but his blast is not as precise from under water. It deflects off the elemental.

Noonan stands ready, as the Elemental swoops over the deck and slashes it with his greatsword. Once as it pushes Lito overboard and once more as it comes for him. Which is the end of the lightning cloud. It discharges into the surrounding making all body hair of Noonan stick out and giving him a tingling sensation.
As the Kraken emerges from the depths of the storm you discover that the majority of the other contenders have not yet made it out of the Eye. In fact, the only other ship in contention is Captain Harrigan’s Wormwood! To the west, the Kraken cruises in the distance, the Master of the Gales on deck observing the race’s finish.
