Amir Awad Hajjir |
So basically, If I am understanding it right we want one side open, one side closed, me behind the door as things come through and Kzrira and you guys back to use the closed door angle as cover? The door opens to us so I I don't know that I can force one to stay closed and they door will stay open if they keep wanting to get at us? Just making sure I understand this right...
Faelar Braegen |
I nod at Karethas and place my hand on Kzrira's back, letting the warmth of the energy that is released seep into her skin.
Cure Moderate Wounds : 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
I then follow behind everyone else and await for the attack to commence once again. I stand behind Kzrira, ready to heal her if she gets injured again.
Kzrira Maiwith |
Hmmm, thought I had posted.
Kzrira nods as Amir secures the door. She then moves back three squares and prepares to fire at whatever may appear when the door is opened.
Move back three squares from the door and then ready an action to fire the second something appears outside the opened door.
Sheik Voodoo |
I guess we're all distracted by the shiny new campaign...
disable device: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 11 - 2 = 29
Amir quickly swings shut and jams one of the heavy doors. Karethas hands off a potion to Kzrira and shouts out orders. Amir remains hiding behind the door while the others retreat. Faelar lets his song reverberate and heals Kzrira. I'm guessing Kzrira also imbibes Karethas' potion as she's back to full hp...
Beyond the door are shouts and confusion beneath the outraged bass cackle of the trapped hyenadon. The gnolls must be regrouping because none foolishly charge into the corridor.

Amir waits behind the door as the archer creeps forward. The hyena in the hole keeps up its infernal racket drowning out any other sound. As she reaches the door, Kzrira can see that the gnolls have moved to the scattered torches in the great chamber and are engaged in the act of extinguishing the light sources.
The gnoll archers immediately exchange fire with her as she shoots at the one in the open. Her arrow hits as one incoming arrow shatters against the door and the other is deflected by her greave!

Amir holds his position and looks at Kzrira. Well what next?
As he talks he reaches into his haversash and pulls out a bottle of lamp oil and peeks around the door to throw it in the pit.
Throw?: 1d20 ⇒ 8 Not sure what bonuses or penalties would apply here...
Sheik Voodoo |
Kzrira- the two archers had readied, the rest of the gnolls will go at the end of the round so you're a tetch ahead.
Amir pitches an oil flask into the pit beyond the door and hears it shatter somewhere within. The eerie cackling stops for a moment and a sniffing sound is heard.

Karethas- sounds like ghost sounds and if so "Anyone who hears a ghost sound receives a Will save to disbelieve." But I'm not sure what you're about- I'm inferring that the noise is running away in an attempt to lure the gnolls in?
Karethas CL: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Faelar CL: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Karethas' ruse elicits no immediate response from the gnolls. Moments later, Faelar's cluster of lights become the sole source of illumination in the great chamber as the gnolls extinguish all other light. Though the light of the magical spheres is rather localized, it serves to expose the archers in the center of the room. The initiate of Rovagug near the injured archer heals him with a wand and they move from the dancing lights into the shadows before the archers fire. Their shots are hurried as they try to evade the light and two arrows shatter off the wall and door of the labyrinth. A half-blinded gnoll staggers from the smoke into the light as the others retreat.
A deep bestial voice comes from the dark gallery to the north,
So hyenadon and gnoll in the pit, archer and cleric dimly lit, archer and hyenadon dimly lit, smoky gnoll well lit.

Sorry I had some epic number of writes and re-writes eaten by the site this weekend so I took yesterday off to calm down and not try to murder my computer.
Amir sighs to himself, How sweet he thinks you are a lion Kzrira AND he will devour your heart. I think he has a crush...
Amir pulls a tindertwig from his pouch, lights it and throws it in the pit. Pretty sure I can pull that all off. I am hoping I can wrap around the door to throw a match without having to "move"
Kzrira Maiwith |
Kzrira calls out.
In order to eat a lioness's heart, one must defeat the lioness. So far many of your kind have failed miserably at this task. . . . I cannot wait to add another to my tally.
She then looses two more arrows at the cleric hoping to take him down before he heals anyone else.

Kzrira- I believe we are in the second bonus round of Faelar's lingering performance. You may have lapped us, but I'll go with your last stated action.
Kzrira takes aim at the priest. Her first shot narrowly misses as the shadowy form ducks behind the archer, but she manages to catch him with her second arrow injuring him. Amir tosses a burning tinder twig into the pit after his oil.

Karethas- I take it that you are using arcane bond as stinking cloud isn't on your memorized spell list. Also, this is a huge 100x100 chamber so you can't really corner anyone into the light, but I'll place it for the greatest effect.
Faelar starts singing again as the echos of his song fade. Karethas twists his ring and a roiling greenish cloud appears in the chamber engulfing the gnolls hanging in the shadows. The giant hyena and its master emerge and circle out of sight beyond the closed door. The other archer also steps out with the nauseated priest behind him. The visible though still in dim light archer fires at Kzrira narrowly missing.
From within the labyrinth behind Karethas and Faelar, there is a buzzing noise and a swarm of fiendish biting flies suddenly fill the passage! After a moment of panic, the heroes realize that the flies cannot hurt them thanks to Karethas' ward against evil though they can see little in the midst of the swarm.

Amir Awad Hajjir |
Well s!*@ now what.. Can I get a charge in on the archer?
Karethas you need to summon something that can light that damn pit on fire and kill those things before it expire....:p
Amir Awad Hajjir |
Faelar has Alchemist Fires.
Its been killing me for...months I guess, I had a note to myself to pick up alchemical stuff like smokesticks, tanglefoot bags and AFs and I kept forgetting and now everytime I look at my gear I just shake my head at all the way I could have made my own life better had I remembered.
Sheik Voodoo |
I thought we were all in the magic circle, and that Faelar was simply moving forward far enough to hand the flask to Amir.
Kzrira- the 10' p.v.e. circle is centered on Karethas. As you can see from the map above, there are 15 feet of flies between Karethas and Amir. So approaching Amir would require Faelar to pass through the swarm. To be honest, I think a summoned swarm is neutral so it really wouldn't be affected by p.v.e., but I aligned it since it is fiendishly conjured. Of course, any movement by Karethas might force them and nix the holding effect.
Kzrira Maiwith |
I have always viewed all creatures that are summoned to have the alignment of the summoner, unless the creature has a specific alignment, in which case a diametrically opposed summoner could not summon one. For instance, I have an evil Summoner in a Way of the Wicked Campaign. I would love to summon those annoying Lantern Archons, but do not because it just seems like either I would not be able to, or the creature would not be willing to follow any commands. Maybe not RAW, but makes more sense than a CE person summoning LG creatures and having them attack other good creatures.
Many creatures are summoned with a Celestial or Infernal template. I figured that a swarm summoned by an evil creature would acquire an evil alignment, or the Infernal template. You may not handle it this way, which is fine, as long as we know your view on summoning.
--> And, yeh, I am going out on a limb and assuming that the summoner himself is evil in this case.
----
Also, being away from home for the past few days, I missed the map and did not realize that Karethas had backed up so far and that Amir was outside of the circle. I thought we all were within it still.
Amir Awad Hajjir |
in my owN display of brilliance I missed the map too. I'm not daft just unobservant...which is probably no better... Faelar coming to me or ?

Any time she can misuse the language to discredit/annoy/enrage the dog men, she will, although I never really thought about the proper term in this case. I am usually the person who corrects people when they get the name for a group of animals wrong.
