To make it easy for me to fill in the chronicles, could you please provide...
Chronicle: What chronicle number will this be for your character? (likely 1)
Player name: Your name, as you want it to appear on the chronicle
Character name: The name of your character
Organized play #-#: Your society play and character numbers
Faction: Characters Faction
XP: Your starting XP (likely 0)
Fame: Your starting fame (likely 0)
Credits: Your starting credits (likely 150??)
Day job: Your day job skill and roll.
Please introduce yourself in gameplay. You might also want to look at the maps folder which has a lot of introductory handouts about how things work.
Please add an icon for your character to the first page of the map pack. Page two has some information about SFS factions you will be working with on the mission.

No hurries really. I'm just trying to get my donkey work done before all hell breaks lose on the 25th. Which is also my wedding anniversary.

Chronicle #: 1
Player Name: Cartmanbeck (Tyler Beck)
Character name: Sebrir Feedbringer
SFS#: 44004-701
Faction: Wayfinders
XP: 0
Fame: 0
Credits: TBD
Day job: Don't know how it works yet. LOL
Sebrir is a burgeoning journalist (or at least he calls himself a journalist... right now he's more of a vlogger) who video-records everything he does as part of his duties to the Starfinder Society. He plans to be an impartial observer during these missions, but he often finds himself needing to step in and help his fellow Starfinders out, culminating in his yelling mid-battle "REMIND ME TO EDIT THIS OUT!!" His life goal is to do an interview with a member of every species in the Pact Worlds and beyond, as part of his video blog "Creatures of our Universe".

I'll be playing a melee focused Vesk soldier. I'll have him built by next week.

Sebrir's profile is updated other than his fluff/background, which I'm still working on. Can someone who is familiar with Starfinder stat blocks look it over and tell me if I missed anything or have anything in the wrong place? :)

I would consider a second battery for your gun though 20 shots is probably enough. And you'll want a listing of boons since you start with the Wayfinder champion one slotted.
Wish I knew what everyone was playing. But since this is built already and no one has said they are playing an Operative yet I'll play it.
Chronicle: 1
Player name: Edward McGee
Character name: The name of your character
Organized play #-#: #145373-702
Faction: Second Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo)
XP: 0
Fame: 0
Credits: 112
Day job: profession electrician: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16 32 credits.
Colthan is an android ghost operative. And will remain so even after the +4 to stealth on trick attacks gets the errata.

Edit #2 I think the Acquisitives works better for Colthan in the long run.

I will be traveling from Saturday morning until Weds. night (driving up north to see the eclipse). I will try to check in at least once a day, but if I miss a post time, please feel free to bot me to keep the flow going. I don't want to hold up the game.
Shouldn't affect this game which doesn't start til the 25th, just posting this in all my games... just in case.

Assuming there is any how are we going to handle starship combat in PbP?
Roles should be fairly easy based on our best skills.
But here is how starship combat works.
Precombat - Placing and positioning. This is mostly random rolls unless the adventure specifies. There are 1 - 2 starship boons that can adjust it after the fact but luckily none of us should have one of those yet.
Phase 1. Engineering
The engineer or engineers have several options most of which are repairing or mitigating shields or critical effects. Since critical effects can reduce rolls we may have to wait for both sides to resolve this phase before moving on.
Phase 2. Helm
All ships roll piloting and movement happens from lowest total to highest. This can involve a lot of maneuvering based on weapons and shields on both sides. And this phase easily took up more time then anything else irl.
Since it dictates what weapons can be fired it will have to be resolved before moving on.
Also the science officer can scan, Buff weapons, or redistribute the shields.
Phase 3. Gunnery
Based on what weapons they are manning and what arc is facing the enemy or enemies they fire. Then we resolve all of the attacks.
Phase ? The captain can jump in at some point during any phase and has multiple options that can effect any players rolls including the enemy.
A 1v1 battle took well over an hour irl over many combat turns with all of us being there and being able to communicate and take our actions quickly. In PbP the usual standard of rolling init and letting everyone who goes before the next enemy take their turn just won't work here.
Can anyone think of ways to streamline things so that a single spaceship combat doesn't take 3+ months?

I think the best way to do it would be for each of the players to make a short list of actions they'd be willing to do during their phase (or others' phases, if they can jump in). So I might be the Science Officer, and say something like "I have X available to increase Y weapons capabilities, and I can redistribute power to the shield in Z amounts. Feel free to use any of these abilities and state that you're using it."
So then if it's your phase and something someone else can do will aid your actions, you can say "I use the Science Officer's Y weapons buff to increase the weapon damage."
That's really the only way I can imagine it working. We do a similar thing for Adventure Card Game play-by-post, and for the most part it works out.
Colthan Becknar

But those actions require skill checks. And those skill checks can be effected by the captains actions or possibly engineers if they repair a faulty system. I guess we could have a bunch of spoiler tags with alternate rolls.

This strikes me as the best way in general. However for this scenario it is not an issue thank goodness as you will be on Absalom station.
I'm hoping to get a chance to play some starship combat in person before trying it in PBP.

Adding day job roll
Chronicle: 1
Player name: Eric Collins
Character name: Pangea-Beta
Organized play #-#: 101218-702
Faction: Acquisitives
XP: 0
Fame: 0
Credits: 1000 Cr. spent (see sheet)
Day job: DayJob LabTechnician: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

So to neaten up my info
Chronicle: 1
Player name: Edward McGee
Character name: Colthan Becknar
Organized play #-#: #145373-702
Faction: Dataphiles
XP: 0
Fame: 0
Credits: 112
Day job: 32 credits.
I bought character folio from my local store but I don't think they have specified if it grants a reroll.
Perception +6
Initiative +5
Pangea-Beta
|
Forgot that Competence bonuses stack... so my Day Job is actually 20
(so the Professional Outfit adds another +1)
From above--Day job: DayJob LabTechnician: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19+1=20
Not that 2 Cr. extra is super important...
Colthan Becknar
|
If anyone missed it you can get +4 to your day job roll from a 20 credit toolkit and +1 from professional clothes which are 5 credits. Since your result is doubled you are paying 25 credits to make an extra 10 per roll so they pay for themselves quick.
Also there is supposed to be a Welcome to Starfinder boon but I don't think it can be downloaded yet. I don't even know what it does.
Pangea-Beta
|
It's important to check out the kits in the CRB and buy some: you get -2 to Engineering checks w/o a kit (no bonus w. one) ; most Computer checks require a hacking kit... and then others give bonuses.
re. the Welcome to Starfinder boon: it was handed out in paper form during GenCon, but it still needs time to be made digital (will be released "soon" I imagine).

Free "bullets"!
Maybe you all spotted this in the FAQ:
Most weapons are sold fully loaded, and their listed bulk includes the bulk of their ammunition. For weapons that are sold without ammunition (such as grenade launchers and missile launchers), the bulk listed with the weapon is still the bulk of a fully loaded weapon.
Just in case you missed it... I love it (I created Beta, with a pistol... but no bullets! Had no Credits left after Heavy Armor and Pike! So had to change things).

Apparently you are only supposed to add it to your 701 character though.

No worries.
For those of you with 701 characters, remember you have the Welcome to Starfinder boon available to you.
For my sanity... there are a couple of you with identical icons, if one could pick a different picture for this adventure it would make my life a little easier.

My folio doesn't grant me a reroll after all but I'll still slot it in case I gave to heal.

In regards of the statblocks, I feel like they used the hp and added stamina + hp and made it to 1 big hp pool for the npc's... that is how I took it.
Colthan Becknar
|
I don't think it will matter in this fight but non-lethal damage works differently in Starfinder. It deals damage to both stamina and hit points just like regular damage. The only difference is if the damage that would reduce someone to 0 is non lethal they go unconscious and are stable.
So an enemy with 100 HP - Deal 95 non lethal then the last 5 is lethal? They die.
Deal 95 lethal and the last 5 is non lethal? They live. Either way they will have to heal 100 HP as normal.
