Seeing that the owl things are not offering any sort of direct threat at the moment, Balinor joins the discussion, though he still holds his sword at the ready.

"These books are the property of the Pathfinder Society. Will you return them once you have found what you have needed?"

He then added, paying particular attention for a response, "And do you swear that what you are doing will bring no harm to the Pathfinders?"

Not just owls, all birds are honest. Trust me, I'm a bird.

Girzog steps behind Balinor, staying silent. He simply watches and listens for anything out of the ordinary, or for any dishonesty from the clearlyworsethantengu owlbeasts

The owl's feathers start to bristle. Girzog and Balinor see this as telltale signs that the bird is very pleased with the assistance it is getting.

Not a clue

Having putten away the bow, Thomas keeps to a corner, to keep an eye on as much happening in the room as possible.

His curiosity peeked by 'owl-men':
"Mister owl person, could you indulge me with telling me what your homeland is like? I'm a visitor to these lands too and am very interested in hearing of - and seeing, new countries."

Girzog calms himself, seeing the creatures are clearly interested in the deal.

"I doubt these books would be of use to them. The subject seems to be locating where you are. Surely they are intelligent enough to know where they are now, and I certainly doubt they are interested in a wilderness hike. Perhaps we should find something else that may help."

"I...that is..." Balinor manages to fumble out, clearly perplexed as to Rilia's sudden attention towards him.

Balinor tries to figure out if she's meaning something more than "go get a book" Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Balinor is confident that she really wants the book and has nothing else in mind.

What was the name of that book again? Oh, "The Libro Opportunae Distractio." What a nice name.

Yes, I see what you're doing there, but Balinor doesn't really socially interact with any sort of actual capability or competence. He'll be in the next room looking for an actual book.

You enjoy a lull in the battle and the fact that you resolved this encounter with the owl-like creatures without violence. After a few moments you hear shouting from the Southern parts of the Grand Lodge. To be more precise from the area where the statue of Durvin Gest is positioned. You move towards that area.

The tall statue is cast in the likeness of Durvin Gest, the most famous Pathfinder of all time. Carved in a likeness of the adventurer in his later years—still dashing and bearing an assortment of scrolls and adventuring gear—the statue stares intently off into the distance. Beneath the statue, pedestals stand adorned with angelic figures and elaborate friezes showing some of the more memorable scenes from the Pathfinder’s long and celebrated career.

But something is terribly wrong; the statue and it's angelic companions have animated and are attacking people! Some fellow pathfinders are dealing with the statue itself. However two angelic figures are unoccupied and are about to attack a few innocent servants!

The inspector easily sees that these are animated constructs. They have are hard to damage hardness 5 with anything that is not adamantine and it is immune to death effects, disease, necromancy effects, paralysis, poison, sleep, stun, and any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects, or is harmless).

Constructs are not subject to nonlethal damage, ability damage, ability drain, fatigue, exhaustion, or energy drain. Constructs are not at risk of death from massive damage.

The inpsector notices that, unlike normal constructs, these are acting as if they are intelligent or under direct control of an intelligent being. It might be that mind-affecting effects do have an effect on these angels.

Girzog finds out the 'hard' way that these beings are not easy to damage....

A dull hum emanates from Skyreach as the ground trembles, trees sway, and glass shatters. A moment later, most of Skyreach’s northwest tower tears free from the keep; however, rather than crash to the ground, a visible aura holds the structure aloft and causes it to float above the Grand Lodge.
