I need to get Kel leveled up after I GM #9-09 next week (which will put him to level 8). Just wanted to post and say hi to indicate that I'm present and aware of the thread :)
Jim - I'm looking forward to getting to RP with you!

![]() |

Needs to update Andrietta on site, as well. Looking forward to the run, and thank you for shifting tiers, GM Dennis!
We'll see how it rolls, then, won't we? Don't mind Andrietta, she's a curmudgeonly ol' grandmother who wants what's best for her flock (which is typically the Pathfinders she's assigned to help and allies)

Player name: supervillan
Character name: Tooth and Claw
PFS #-Char#: 75577-5
Faction: sovereign court
Day job roll: hunting lodge (survival) but I may forgo the roll, depending on other factors. Will decide at a later stage.
Did this character play Version A?No. I did play it, but with another character.
Any unusual abilities/gear/boons I should know about? Fiendish giant praying mantis companion (I've set up an alias and pbp sheet for Claw). I've got a whole bunch of boons listed on my pbp sheet for Tooth and Claw.
Looks like 3 tengu at this table. Nice! Tooth here is a devout follower of the Blood God, Achaekek. Tooth believes in the divine right of kings (hence he is sovereign court), killing for free is a sin (unless in self-defence of course), and following a false god is the worst of crimes! Might make for some interesting RP with Andrietta :)
I will be level 7 (assuming I survive) by the start of the game. I'm at a con next week.

![]() |

Andrietta is a devoted follower of Grandmother Crow. She's a curmudgeonly ol' matriarch who's had to bury more of her kin than she'd ever like to remember.
She believes in hard work, honest interactions with folks, and she treats the Pathfinder agents on her team as her 'surrogate flock'.
She knows that some agents follow shady paths, but everyone has at least a smidgen of a chance to be Good. She's also a grandmother who's seen everything a grandmother might have had pulled on them by one of their descendants.
As a firm believer in hard work, she'll be up at the crack of dawn making 'builder's tea' and if the mission's a success, she'll take everyone out for frozen treats (read: ice cream).

![]() |

Alright, two tengus! How many languages do you speak between you? Also, is one of you willing to temporarily change your avatar once the scenario starts?

![]() |

I have quite a few tengu characters, unfortunately there aren't more than a handful of tengu or bird-like avatars to cover that many.
Been pushing for more tengu pictures but... well, it's not a website priority.
May I humbly request Tooth research the bird/outer planar/tengu/kenku avatars to see if there is another one that fits first before I try to reshuffle all my characters to minimize duplications?
Andrietta is fluent in: Abyssal, Common, Draconic, Giant, Hallit, Infernal, Orc, Senzar, Sylvan, Tengu, Terran, Thassilonian, Tien, Varisian

I switched avatar. I have two tengu, and Jim's right there are hardly any tengu avatars.
Tooth isn't much of a thinker. He has an alternate racial trait (carrion sense) in place of gifted linguist. He speaks common, tengu and tien.
There's a third tengu on our signup list: Watts. He's an investigator I believe, so probably speaks lots of languages.

Got it, and thanks for switching avatars. I was just curious about the languages because that's something I associate with Tengus (maybe because the only one I have is an occultist with maxed linguistics).

Tooth and Claw is now levelled up after visiting the City of Golden Death.
So sad he couldn't get a golden pony out of the city :o
I'm excited to play him again now that Claw is all grown up (hit Large size at level 7). This forces a couple of questions though, given the current status of various Blogs and the FAQ.
Can Claw, a Vermin Companion giant mantis, wear mundane or magic armour/barding? Can Claw have an exotic saddle fitted?
As far as I could make out, the mantis is listed as a "hexaped, clawed" body shape. But I'm really not certain now. Up until the confusing Blog post (that was supposed to clarify things) it was totally clear that the mantis could wear barding and have a mundane exotic saddle fitted.
I don't plan on using the mantis as a mount routinely, this character is set up as a melee controller not a charger. But I've used potions of reduce person to enable Tooth to ride Claw a handful of times.

![]() |

Let me do a little more reading and get back to you on those questions.

![]() |

I hope to have Kel leveled up by Feb 1 - I just ran #9-09 the other day which puts him at exactly level 8...although I'm running #9-11 tomorrow, two tables of Starfinder next weekend, and playing in #8-25 next Monday...so yea, by February ^^;

![]() |

Apologies for being slow to get up here.
Player name: Joshua Blazej
Character name: Watts Helm
PFS #-Char#: 2104-11
Faction: Scarab Sages
Day job roll: Craft (alchemy): 1d20 + 27 + 2 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 27 + 2 + 5 + 2 = 39
I will be playing this on slow track.
Did this character play Version A? Yes
Any unusual abilities/gear/boons I should know about? Yes
Watts has taken a number feats that allow him to use his linguistics skill in place of others.
Orator: This lets him use it in place of some uses of Bluff (to lie or conceal information), Diplomacy (to change attitude of a creature), and Intimidate (to force a creature to cooperate).
Esoteric Linguistics: I can use Linguistics to identify scrolls (in place of Spellcraft) or to activate scrolls (in place of Use Magic Device). I still need to be have the ability score necessary to cast from the scroll. Without additional penalties, I am able to cast 4th level spells from most scrolls without a chance of failure.
I do have an unusual number of boons. Most of them are random one use spell or effects of that kind and I keep them listed on my profile page (although I do need to update it for the last couple adventures). I'll double check if any of them stand out.
Tooth and Claw is correct on my language coverage.
Watts Helm understands Abyssal, Aquan, Aklo, Common, Celestial, Dwarven, Draconic, Elven, Giant, Grippl, Halfling, Hallit, Ignan, Jistka, Kelish, Osirion, Ancient Osirion, Orc, Shoati, Skald, Sylvan, Sphinx, Tengu, Tien, and Undercommon for twenty-five languages.

![]() |

Let me do a little more reading and get back to you on those questions.
Thanks. If it helps any, I'd be looking to equip Claw with Studded Leather barding +1 and an exotic military saddle.

Player name: Peter AKA Amazing Red
Character name: Kaa
PFS #-Char#: 20056-19
Faction: Dark Archive
Day job roll: None.
Did this character play Version A? Yes
Any unusual abilities/gear/boons I should know about? Yes. Kaa is an ectoplasmatist so he summons his weapons/armor. He is also part Oracle so his curse is Powerless Prophecy. He cannot take actions in surprise rounds and if the combat does not have a surprise round, he is staggered in round 1. He basically has spellcombat/spelltrike but for psychic spells. He has reach with his ecto-weapons and can use them to manipulate items.

![]() |

Can I check the expected finish date please? I'm at a face-to-face convention on 5-6 May and hope to be able to play Tooth and Claw.

![]() |

I've pinged the overseer to get a solid answer, but I suspect we'll be done before then. Session 2 of the special starts on May 7th, and I suspect there's a gap between (also, the 8-99A was less than 2 months when we ran it last year). I'll get back to you when I have a solid answer.
Also, I haven't forgotten about your equipment questions. I'm prepping for a con so haven't had a chance to dig in to it, but I'll get you an answer next week.

![]() |

I may have underestimated how busy my early February was going to be - but - after our local convention next week, I've got tons of free time! No matter what, I will have Kel's sheet ready before the start date!

![]() |

No worries. I have a local con next week too, so I won't even be looking over your characters until after that.

![]() |

I'm finally set to go! :)
Player name: Mike Bramnik
Character name: Kel-Aurthraxis Maleocorr
PFS #-Char#: 43185-36
Faction: Silver Crusade
Day job roll: Craft (Alchemy): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Additionally, I'd like the following:
Did this character play Version A? Yes (Well, he got my Gen Con 2017 GM credit, at least)
Any unusual abilities/gear/boons I should know about? A couple -
Kel has the feat Divine Barrier and will always try to stay within 30 feet of the majority of the party so he can use it to shield them from area-of-effect damage. In a nutshell, he expends channeled energy against an elemental-damage-AoE and gives the party Improved Evasion for that one save.
Kel carries a couple of scrolls of Inspiring Recovery which is like Breath of Life but at Medium (100+ foot) range.
He is also a Travel Domain Cleric, so expect a bit of teleportation around the battlefield from him!
One of his items also gives him constant Deathwatch - not the ability to detect creatures, but to "stream info" about them (at least within the spell's parameters) once he's aware of them and they are in range.
Beyond that he has some interesting boons, but nothing as noteworthy as the above. Thanks for asking about stuff like this!

![]() |

Kaa and Andrietta - the spells I have on my character sheet are my "normal load-out", but since you both have more limited selection in spells known (Kaa) and spells per day (Andrietta), fee free to make requests of me! Also, Kaa, since I have a wand of Bless, I can use it or not depending on your preference to cast spells vs. get into the thick of things sooner.

![]() |

Other than a lesser restoration for some fairly obvious reasons, it seems fine. You can use the wand of bless, it will let me self buff at the start of combat.

![]() |

Sorry this took me so long to get to.
Tooth and Claw is now levelled up after visiting the City of Golden Death.

I don't plan on using the mantis as a mount routinely, this character is set up as a melee controller not a charger. But I've used potions of reduce person to enable Tooth to ride Claw a handful of times.
Reading through the blog post, the Quadraped/Hexapod [feet] category, into which giant mantis falls, has both an armor slot and a belt [saddle] slot.
Quadruped/Hexapod [feet] (armor, belt [saddle], chest, eyes, head, headband, neck, shoulders): Baluchitherium, camel, deinotherium, elasmotherium, embolotherium, elephant, giant ant, giant mantis, giant wasp, hippopotamus, mastodon, megatherium, pygmy hippopotamus, rhinoceros, triceratops, uintatherium
I know there's still a lot of confusion around this stuff, but to me this is pretty clear. The armor, especially is clear, given that creatures get the armor slot automatically. If you wanted a magical saddle, I think you would need the Extra Item Slot feat, but given that your creature's body type lists saddle, I can't see any reason it couldn't wear a mundane saddle right now. Go for it.

![]() |

Thanks GM.
I will make a few purchases.

![]() |

Other than a lesser restoration for some fairly obvious reasons, it seems fine. You can use the wand of bless, it will let me self buff at the start of combat.
Thank you for reminding me that I burned out my partially charged wand of Lesser Restoration - I'll grab some scrolls (with a 3 round casting time, it's rare that it becomes worth casting during combat) though.
Speaking of which - if anyone wants me to use their healing wands/scrolls/etc., just let me know! Kel's primary role isn't that of a healer, but he's a decent substitute!

![]() |

Andrietta's typical spell 'load-out' is: Hero's Defiance, Protection from Evil, Bull's Strength, Effortless Armor
Beyond that, though, not sure what to request?

![]() |

Thanks everyone for checking in plenty ahead of time. Please fill in your Initiative and Perception modifiers on the first slide of the Maps & Handouts deck, linked here and at the top of the page.

![]() |

Also, I made a token for Claw, but if you have a different image you'd rather use, either point me to it or feel free to replace the token yourself on that slide.

![]() |

One more request: If you do not already have them, please include "Bot me" spoilers in your profile. Specials tend to move at a quick pace, and I've had to bot at least one PC in each one I've run. Having spoilers in your profile makes that easier and ensures I bot you in a way that's consistent with how you'd play yourself. Thanks!

I have been getting NO updates or indications that this thread was even active. I only checked back in on it this morning to see if it was moving and was shocked to find activity and movement.
Will try to catch up as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience and delay.
EDIT: Holy cripes Andrietta, where'd the novel come from??

No worries. Official start date is tomorrow, this is just the bit that we would be doing as tables mustered, were this a face-to-face game.

![]() |

Question for you all: Do any of you have the "Restful Pathfinder's Lounge" vanity on this character?

![]() |

Tooth and Claw does not.

![]() |

Andrietta does not though it has been quite tempting to go after with some other characters for REASONS.

![]() |

Kel does not either.
(Sorry about not responding to the RP so far - surprisingly busy last few days for me)

![]() |

Huzzah for "speed of cleric" !
I also had local games to GM this weekend, last night, and now apparently one tomorrow...so going lower in the order is fine by me this time around!

![]() |

You've been selected to start with one of the Aid Tokens! Aid tokens provide bonus, and in an in-person game would be pieces of paper circulating around the room. When your table gets one, you can either use one of the bonuses, or you can improve one of them (called boosting) to make it better for the next table. Info below:

![]() |

Aid Token Info (linked at top of page):
Aid Token
Allied Offensive: A Pathfinder agent strikes a creature at the same time as the PC, increasing the damage dealt by one attack by 2d8 points. In addition, after the attack, anyone attacking the target is considered to be flanking it until the beginning of the attacker’s next turn. Boosted: +1d8 points of damage. (to boost, attack roll vs average AC)
Burst of Healing: A Pathfinder agent heals all of the PCs of 3d6 points of damage. Boosted: +2d6 points of healing (to boost, expend 1 channel energy or cast a spell with healing descriptor of level 4 or higher. Must be cast, not from item)
Timely Inspiration: A Pathfinder agent provides the effects of a bard’s inspire courage (+2) bardic performance for 3 rounds. Boosted: increase bonus by 1 (to boost, expend 3 rounds of bardic performance)
Provide Knowledge (must be boosted): Gain the benefits of a Knowledge skill check or Spellcraft skill check used to identify a magical item; the type and difficulty (Easy, Average, or Hard) depend on the table granting the benefit. (To Boost: Succeed at a Knowledge check of your choice, the result of the check (Easy, Average or Hard) should be noted on the Aid Token.)
Provide Spellcasting (must be boosted): Gain the benefits of a beneficial spell cast by an ally as listed on the Aid Token. To Boost: Cast one of the following spells and note your PC’s name and caster level on the Aid Token: lesser restoration, neutralize poison, remove curse, or remove disease.
As a team, you can invoke the aid token to provide one of the benefits, or you may boost it. Neither takes an action.
Strong GM encouragement: Use the token quickly, and pass it on. If you don't think you need the help, then pick something to boost.

![]() |

I would agree with boosting the token. My inclination is to boost knowledge checks, but I would expect attack or healing to be better boons in general. I'll wait until tomorrow though for someone else to take on those boosts or use the token, otherwise I'll boost with Knowledge (religion).

![]() |

I think when we're in melee, just keep on using the tokens when we have them. Boost if we're all good; just now, I'd rather drop at least one of the constructs as quick as we can.

![]() |

I think the idea is that we either get the benefit of the aid token or we boost it (making the aid token better for later tables). If we boosted the burst of healing, we wouldn't get the healing, but a later table who got the token would get that boosted healing effect because of our aid.

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

That's correct. You can't boost it for yourself. You can either (a) use on e of the effects or (b) boost one of the effects. Either way, as soon as you do one of those things it gets passed. Having GMd this four times already between the two versions, these things work best if they are constantly being passed around, so for the purposes of this I am not going to wait for consensus. As soon as someone decides to use it (as Tooth did) I'm going to apply that and pass it along.

![]() |

Nice shot, Lissa. I'm interested to see how your Hydrokineticist plays, as I just began playing an Aquakineticist in Ruins of Azlant, and I have no experience with the class as a player.

![]() |

That is something I have come to enjoy in PbP - being able to see different builds on paper as well as how they play (without looking over people's shoulders at their character sheets when playing face to face)!
