After a long hiatus, most of it self-imposed, I've decided to run a PbP again. After much internal debate I've decided to run the Legacy of Fire AP.
That being said I'm looking for five players to join me on this adventure. Recruitment will end March 2nd @ 6pm. CST.
The Rules:
• Races: All standard races from the Pathfinder Core Rulebook will be allowed. Any other PC race will be considered on a case by case basis. Unfortunately, due to it’s current playtesting status, no characters built using the Advanced Race Guide will be allowed.
• Classes: All classes (Base and Prestige) from PFRPG core rulebook plus those from the Advanced Player's Guide (APG) and Ultimate Magic (UM) will be allowed. No base classes from Ultimate Combat (UC) will be allowed (i.e. No Gunslinger, No Ninja, No Samurai, No guns of any kind). Any Archetype for these base classes (again from the APG, UM, or UC) will be allowed.
• Alignment: Characters can be of any Good or Neutral alignment. No evil alignments will be allowed.
• Abilities: Characters will be based on the High Fantasy (20 point) buy, found in the PFRPG Core Rulebook on page 16. No ability can be raised higher than 18 (prior to racial modifiers). Only one ability may be lowered below 10 and that ability cannot be lowered below 8 (prior to racial modifiers).
• Feats: Any feat from the Core Rulebook, APG, UM, or UC will be acceptable. Any 3.5 or 3PP material you wish to use will have to be approved by me prior to acceptance.
• Traits: Character's will start with two traits, one of which MUST be from the Legacy of Fire’s Player's Guide.
• Hit Points: Characters will start out with Maximum hit points for their class at 1st level.
• Starting Gold: Characters will start with Maximum starting gold for their base class as found in the PFRPG Core Rulebook on page 140, or in the APG on page 26.
If you have any questions feel free to post them here or PM me and I'll answer them as quickly as possible.
Thanks for your interest,
V

Let me run two ideas past you.
Often underestimated as a drunken bufoon, Rondu devistating punches and nimble moves reveal his martial training to those who would try to bully others or contemplate evil deeds.
Constantly finding himself on the move because of his crude personality and suspect grooming, Rondu is seeking to prove that his worth to a world that refuses to look past his rough exterior.
Enrick is the third son of a minor noble who was groomed from a young age to follow in the family tradition of serving Abadar. After being ordained, Enrick was spurred into adventure and travel by his father's command to "make a name for himself".
Fatidious, well-dressed, and foppish, Enrick's build and temperment make him particularly ill-suited to physical exersion of any type. He relies almost entirely on his life-long man-servent, Bosley, to perform any manual tasks for him. Bosley is a fit middle-aged man who posesses all the skills one would expect of a gentleman's gentleman. Bosley is never far from Enrick's side and has served the Wenthrope family faithfully since he was a young man.
For Enrick I was thinking about having the trait Rich Parents and pre-paying for Bosley's services ((a non-combatant 1st level commoner with skills in Diplomacy, Knowledge (Nobility), & Profession (Butler)). How do you feel about that?
Thanks for the consideration.

Hmm, I have an idea for a Suli rake
any objections to Suli?
Dammit, beat me to it.
If I don't get in on your other one, I'm gonna try to make a Human Barbarian for this.I want to go for the Titan-Mauler archetype, but not the one used in the book. Instead I'd like to go with Maxximilius's revised version of the archetype for my character. (page 17 of the document)
If that's not alright let me know so I can whip something else up.

As much as I really don't like limiting a player's option too much I'm going to have to say no to this.

That's fine, why I asked first.
I'll work on just a normal Barbarian then, or two-handed fighter.Mrdarknlight |
I wish to put forward Mentu a Half-Elf Ranger.
Mentu
Mentu was born to a unique family. His mother was from a Keleshite and Vudrani stock. His father was an elf swordsman from Varisia. This usual family had a profound effect on Mentu, that has lasted to this day. During his childhood he lived near Solku. His grandmother and grandfather would take him out on trips into the savannah outside of Solku to teach him archery and tracking he took to these lessons very well. While at home his father would teach him swordsmanship. He had a connection with animals, while out of the savannah he would help injured animals or try to teach smaller animals tricks.
This went on until Mentu was 16, which was when gnolls launched an attack that changed his life. Some of the gnolls reached his home and attacked for slaves. Mentu along with his father and grandfather fought back, the fight was rough and Mentu was knocked out early on in the fight. He was awoken by his mother a few hours later. He found out that his father and grandfather died stopping the gnolls. During the funeral Mentu swore to himself that he would better himself so that he could stop what happened to his family happen to other families. This was ten years ago, Mentu has trained himself in those years becoming a better tracker and swordsman. Mentu also learned how to kill gnolls more effectively because of the attacks he had great pratice. He recently heard of how Garavel wished to reclaim Kelmarane from a gnoll tribe, wishing to help he went to sign himself up to the group.
I plan on just having Mentu be a two handed ranger that could switch to a bow when needed. Any question I am happy to answer.

You're running quite a few adventure paths. I'd love to get to play in one of them!
Here's my offering:
Kallit, a young male human rogue.
Do you have any thoughts or suggestions?
GM Wulfson |
For those of you who don't have access to the LoF player's guide some of the traits can be found here:
Character traits
or the campaign specific traits can be found here:
d20PFSRD traits database
(scroll down the category list until you find the Legacy of Fire specific traits).
Just an FYI, I'm going to limit the trait bonus for the Finding Haleen trait to +1 hit point or +1 skill point per level of favored class. So a character would be able to get +2 hp's, +2 skill points, or +1/+1 every level (just not +2/+1).

I would love to play as a Human Cleric, I fear this would be my first campaign though. I am a quick learner and am willing to put in the time.
I would take World Traveler: +1 to Sense Motive and also Night Market Urchin: +2 on saves against fear effects

Thanks! I've selected Savannah Child as my second trait, and applied its bonus to the Ride skills. (Never know when we might have to make a quick getaway, right? ;))
After perusing UM, I've changed my familiar from Monkey to Thrush, and I have a question: How are you disposed towards the Words of Power system? If you feel positive about it, I might take the Experimental Spellcaster feat on p. 166 of UM later on...

Thank you for the link to the campaign traits. I'm still not sure what the story is, but it has something to do with resettling a village that was attacked by gnolls?

A Catfolk with a bird familiar (why does Sylvester and Tweety spring to mind).
I've never had the need to look over the WoP system, but if it's something you want to take later that will give me time to peruse them.

My initial thought is to select the trait Finding Haleen, and have her as a sister. The Magus archetype Kensai appeals to me, as well as the feat Dervish Dance, to make a very Katapeshi-theme magus variant (no armor, wielding only a scimitar with high Dex and Int).
As far as backstory would go, I think Haleen would be my character's sister by blood, though seperated by about 5 years. Their parents died early in life and they had to live life in the Katapesh streets. Eventually the Dawnflower took pity on the pair and they were invited to live in a temple dedicated to Sarenrae. This is where my character learned his rather unique mix of qadrian dervish fighting mixed with magic. As a result of the Dawnflower's generosity, my character would be a devout worshiper.
Not fully fleshed out, but those are the basic ideas.

I'd like to play either a Female human Rogue, daughter of a lay woman (or cleric) from a Pharasma temple, seeking to escape a gloomy life for herself as a probable cleric ("I see dead people"), with either the "Caretaker" or "Child of the Temple" trait
STR 12 DEX 14 CON 13 INT 12 WIS 14 CHA 13
(total 20 points, Racial bonus +2 DEX)
Favored Class Rogue Bonus +1 Comp
FEATs: Dodge, Deft Hands
OR
an Half Elf female Bard , worshipping Calistrae, with the trait "Charming"
STR 11 DEX 14 Con 12 Int 12 Wis 10 Cha 16
(total 20 points, racial bonus Cha+2)
Favored Class Bard Bonus +1 HP
FEAT: extra performance, Fleet

@GM Wulfson - that's funny, I was mulling Cutpurse over after having written the bit about roof runner fitting in thematically.
Mechanically speaking, I'm not entirely enthused about either, but I do like the flavor. I'll probably go Cutpurse as it fits the orphan kid wandering the Nightstalls a bit better.
Are you looking for a fully stated build, or just concepts to decide on party members?

Heh heh heh. "I tought I thaw a Thortherer! I did, I did! I did thee a Thortherer -- can I hath more birdtheed, Mathther?"
Yes, I think I'll take it at 3rd level, most likely, if you'll take on Zelang and he lives long enough. ^^

GM Wulf - what's your gut feel on Summoners? - or heaven forbid a Synthesist?
I'm not interested in powergaming anything, but the concept of a genie binding flavoured Summoner or Synthesist is appealing to me. I'd understand a flat no - but if you're open to it I could proffer a build and backstory.

For Enrick I was thinking about having the...
For Enrick, I am looking taking the campaign trait of Missonary and either Rich Parents or Heirloom weapon.
GM Wulson - Can you let me know how you feel about the "Rich Parents" feat and having a non-combatant servant (1st level commoner) tag along for Enrick?
Thanks
Nasir al' Shahaadi |
I submit Nasir
Nasir’s parents own the most successful inn in all of Katapesh hosting talented performers and entertainment of the highest quality. As a little girl, Nasir would silently creep downstairs after her bedtime to watch the beautiful dancers that performed in the common room. By far the most amazing of these was the legendary Halim al’Vizhir, her movements seemed more than human, almost magical. That was where Nasir’s obsession with dance and music began.
When she turned 13 her parents finally, after much haranguing, agreed to allow her to study with Halim, the dancer pleased to find a student who approached dance whole heartedly. She thought her to listen not only with her ears, but with every fiber of her being, how to abandon herself to the primal music of life, and most of all, how to express it with her body. Hours they would spend dancing, learning the subtle movements of hands and arms, the sway of the hips and twist of the torso that turned the dancer into a conduit for the primal rhythm of life itself.
It would be her other interest however, that would lead her to leave her home. Her father possessed a sizeable personal library, and Nasir grew up devouring the tales of Lucky Farouk and reading of the Pathfinder Society. She dreamed of adventure, a dream that took root in her soul and grew the day Pathfinders stayed at her parents inn. As she mastered her art, the dream grew, unrelenting, until on her 20th birthday she set out for the distant land of Absolom to apply for membership. The application went well, granting her full membership and her first assignment; join Garavel’s group to investigate ancient structures in the area and determine the reason for Kelmarane’s abandonment. Determined to impress her new brotherhood she has set out to discover the secrets of her homeland.
Nasir is a creature of passion, living life to its full extent every opportunity she gets. Filled with an insatiable appetite for new experiences and knowledge, she looks at everything with eyes eager to learn something. Her greatest love is music, and she will leap at any opportunity to dance.
If one word were used to describe Nasir, it would have to be luscious. Blessed with sun-kissed skin, scintillating curves and an hourglass figure that boasts a little extra sand in all the right places, her body appeals to the eyes and calls out to the arms. Long dark hair frames a beautiful face featuring dark smoky eyes, a full sensual mouth and the profile of a desert queen. Her walk, her laugh and even her breathing carry a subtle yet intoxicating rhythm, a melody that seems to harmonize with the observer’s heartbeat, calling out to them to join the dance. Male or female all find it hard to look away.

While I personally don't care for the Summoner class I won't let that cloud my judgement. If you can come up with a good background that would be more important to me.

As long as you take ranks in those skills (except for the Butler one) as well and he is not your personal repository of information (besides an occasional Aid Another) that's fine. The rich Parents trait will give you an early bonus (MW weapon, MW armor, etc...) to start with but should even out rather quickly. So no I don't have a problem with it as long as you can tie it to your backstory.

Appreciate the response and I'll let it percolate in my head before putting up any specific details.
I completely understand the Summoner reticence and would seek to allay that if I did choose to put forward a submission.
Khalil Jabir |
I'd like to submit Khalil Jabir. I had originally created him for a Legacy of Fire campaign, but was not selected. I then modified him to fit a homebrew Kingmaker style campaign that didn't really take off. So here I am again, putting him up for the campaign he was really meant for!
Note that as of creating this post, I have not fixed his stats to be in line with your character creation guidelines, but will do so soon.
From a characterization standpoint, Khalil has come upon some very hard times in the recent past, having lost both his wife and son. He is looking for meaning in his life, as well as a way to control his rage. I think he would paired very well against a cleric or other character with divine faith who can be a sort of guide and calming presence to him. He does not worship any particular deity, but I can see him coming around to worship should the roleplaying lead in that direction. Khalil is not a loner, despite his recent misgivings, and will take part in group discussions and will not hesitate to engage PCs and NPCs in conversations.
From a mechanics standpoint, Khalil is a combat-oriented character, of course. He will typically intimidate his opponent (or opponents) in order to demoralize them, prior to engaging. His first rage power will be Intimidating Glare, which allows him to intimidate as a move action. He will eventually take Terrifying Howl which can cause all shaken opponents (as a result of demoralizing them) to become panicked. I may take Dazzling Display as well, which will allow him to make an intimidate check versus all opponents within 30 feet as a full-round action. This, coupled with Terrifying Howl, can be interesting.
Appearance and Personality:
Khalil is a very intimidating man. Once considered rather handsome (and still handsome to those who like a more rugged look), his appearance is now marred by a rather nasty scar running down his right cheek. He has light brown hair that he keeps short and pale eyes that some find unnerving. Khalil wears the sandy colored clothing that is common throughout the Katapesh region, over which he wears a chain shirt.
Background:
Khalil grew up outside of the city of Katapesh, the unwanted son of a mercenary who left his mother. His childhood wasn't terrible, nor was it great. It was actually rather average. He inherited his father's body type, and decided to utilize it as a mercenary as well. He trained with two-handed weapons primarily, and found himself gravitating towards the use of the extremely large hammer known as an Earth breaker.
After a few years as a mercenary, Khalil met a beautiful woman known as Shiara and fell in love. He settled down and married this woman and they soon had a son, whom they named Abasi. Khalil continued his work as a mercenary, mostly as a guard for caravans that wish to make trips to and from Katapesh. His wife was getting impatient with him being away for some time and so Khalil brought them along on one of his trips.
This was the biggest mistake Khalil has ever made. The caravan was ambushed by a large contingent of gnolls and in the chaos of battle Shiara and Abasi were both killed. Khalil, devastated, flew into a rage and drove off the remaining gnolls, but he couldn't save his family. He fell apart and found himself drinking away his sorrows and engaging in tavern brawls.
He has recently come into an opportunity to put himself back on track and perhaps get some revenge against the gnolls in the process.
GM Wulfson |
This sounds pretty awesome. How do you feel about the optional rules from Ultimate Magic concerning the binding of outsiders? I really get the urge to play a genie-binding wizard, and while those rules seem cumbersome for a tabletop game, is seems like they'd work much better in a PbP setting.
I haven't read them. Give me some time today to look over them and I'll let you know.
Izz'aldin Ab'rashid |
I just wanted to put in this character concept. I've got most of the crunch laid out, but missing other important things. The reason I wanted to put the concept out there before writing out my full backstory is that if anyone else is selecting the "Finding Haleen" trait, we should probably work it out between us. Feel free to PM me if you want.
Helaman |
Using the Finding Haleen - Street Rat type background for me, and a young burglar turned to Inquisitor of Iomadae - basically a street kid/beggar turned burglar - Haleen took me in when the streets got too rough, gave me a place to lay low etc and I took to more and more sleeping there, and despite her objections and fears would thieve when the money got too tight for her.
The finding Iomadae bit will fall outside of the story where our paths overlap in Haleens care. You would know me as 'Yusif' but the character will nominally be under a new name during game play.
