I would play, but I don't know if you allow 3rd party or not.

I was planning on being Haleen's real blood brother, going with the pair of us loosing our parents early and scraping by. Eventually taken in by the Temple of the Dawnflower.

Seems pretty easy to work it in together, we knew each other on the streets, when myself and Haleen were taken in, we would help you as much as possible. Then perhaps you were taken in by a priest of Iomedae? At which point we stopped communicating?

Something along those lines? I'm pretty open to ideas, but my character is definitely going to be a devout follower of the Dawnflower.

Grand Lodge

I could always go from Iomadae to Saranrae... Let me make that change.

So would you also be a blood relation, or we met you on the streets type thing?

Also, I'll be filling out the rest of my character by tomorrow. I think I'm gonna be a bit useless though until I get the Dervish Dance feat at 3rd level.

Grand Lodge

Nah - I'll be a foundling that she took in from time to time - a street thief/burglar. Likely a little jealous of you to boot but as someone who turned to Sarenrae as a career later I imagine you were a good and sharing kid too so we probably were friends and got into trouble together. Write me (Yusif) in as a wild card and trouble maker on the streets. What was your personality like as a kid?

You are making a Cleric right?

I may alter a few other things too... gimme a bit

Hmmm, fighter or an arcane caster? I think I'll go with the fighter. I have an idea I want to try. Should be up later.

All right, this is going to be a bare bones character idea, since I know a few people have been having similar ideas.

Wulfson, would you be okay with a Sylph Summoner who's eidolon would be someone they think is family? IE a Djinni or something like that. If not, I can try and come up with another idea.

Okay, here's my character for submission. I imagined her as a dervish type fighter.
Stats are in the profile.

Background:

Fajr's childhood was not a pleasant one. Her parents belonged to a nomad tribe that wandered the desert endlessly, but the harshness of that life left her tough than most. Despite the life she had, she was happy. Her parents were kind and most of the tribe was familiar with the bubbly child.

That was before the raid. A gang of gnolls ambushed the tribe, enslaving many, and killing the rest. Fajr's parents hide her, and were cut down soon after. When the sounds of the fighting and screaming faded, she crawled out of her hiding place to where her parents lay dead. Her sobs attracted the attention of a straggling gnoll, which thought to take her as a slave. Fate was kind to Fajr. A spear lay within her reach and before she could even think, she had thrust it into the belly of the gnoll, killing it.

For a week Fajr wandered the desert. Heat-stroke, dehydration, and starvation all threatened to end it, and nearly did. Fate, however, showed her kindness once again. A couple of clerics of Sarenrae found her collapsed outside of the city. They took her in and nursed her back to health. Fajr learned the teachings of Sarenrae as well as the ways of the dervish, and might have even become a cleric herself, if not for the burning hatred in her heart towards the gnolls.

When she was of age, she thanked the kind priests and priestesses for raising her and left the temple. She set out to find work as a guard, but wound up at a mercenary headquarters. The group of men laughed her out of the building, hurling insults and curses at her as she left. The next day she returned, but this time with her head covered to hide her gender. She didn't speak for fear of her voice giving her identity away. Instead, she wrote on a chalkboard. While she has proven herself in battle, Fajr's apparent muteness held her to the lower ranks within the company, but on hearing about the expedition to rid a village of a group of gnolls, she quit and signed on with Garavel's group.

Appearance:

Fajr is about 5 foot 4. Her black hair comes to the middle of her back and her almond eyes are almost as dark. She is dark skinned and has a tattoo that looks like stylized wings across her back. She wears loose clothing that helps her keep cool in the heat and hides the more feminine features of her frame. Her chain shirt goes over this and a long scarf covers her hair and face. The only adornment is a bracelet of gnoll teeth that have come from the ones she has killed in battle.

Personality:

Fajr took more than the sword fighting lessons to heart during her time at the temple. While her hatred for gnolls is great, her sense of compassion is even greater. She doesn't like to see suffering and is very empathetic to those who are having a rough time surviving. She is especially kind to orphans, having seen what could have become of her if not for the kindness of others. The year she spent in the mercenary company lead her to adopt a quiet, introverted demeanor and a chalkboard as her primary means of communication.

I was thinking that the other characters wouldn't know she was female at first, and probably assume that she was a boy or something like that. She would use the chalkboard to communicate with them until they got her out of her shell. She can talk, but she's very quiet and sometimes stumbles over words.

Here - this should tie myself and Izz'aldin Ab'rashid together

Early Childhood and Haleen

Spoiler:
I never really knew who my parents were... my earliest memory of anything resembling a parent was 'Grandma Umaymah', who ran half a dozen of us as beggars for her. She wasn't too harsh and I heard tales of many worse than her and for the most part we ate once a day beyond what we stole. Life was good enough until one day we came back to our little room and found her stiff and cold on the floor. We fought over what little there was and ran our separate ways.

Without a protector I nearly became a victim of several street gangs until Mustafa of the Jackals decided that I could join them... and I joined willingly! I gained protection, a small measure of power through their numbers and what I thought was a 'family'.

We were the masters of a thousand petty crimes! No merchant was safe from our thieving hands hands, piteous cries of false shames or shouting harassment of their customers without a regular payment in coin. Ha! I thought myself a Prince of the Streets, even more so when Mustafa saw that I was a fearless climber and possessed of a fast mind for puzzles, he had me taught the ways of locks and portals. Our small band of night rats would race into the dark of night, scale walls into the merchants who lived in areas outside the reach of our protection and steal what we could. Dangerous work all around - more than one of us fell to rival gangs, or through carelessness, the cudgels of the merchants they stole from.

And again, the hand of fate fell over me, changing my path - goaded into fury over the Jackals ambitions, two gangs joined forces and in a night of blood and screams came for us. I was lucky to escape with my life... I ran and ran, though twisting alleys and down darkened streets until I fell weeping near the home of Haleen.

Without question, she took me into her home and despite a child of her own, covered me with the same blanket while my enemies sought myself and others with many a curse and shouted threatening to any who may think to give the fleeing Jackals refuge. If not for her I would have passed beyond this life, like the rest of my gang.

One night turned to two and two nights to a week as things calmed down in the marketplace and the Jackals lost territory added to that of my hunters... she bade both myself and her son, Izz'aldin Ab'rashid, silence for those many days that none may guess at my presence. Each morning she fed me from the same pot as that of her son as if I were her own! May Saranrae smile on her forever.

In time I was permitted to come or go as I pleased but she had a gentleness about her that made me return to her house - she never questioned where I went or if I would return and was welcoming and happy to see me when I returned, giving me freedom mixed with love that tamed my wild ways somewhat - I became like a brother to Izz'aldin Ab'rashid and though I was never again like unto my days as a burglar, we had many an adventure together, dodging both street gang and market guard both for the mischief that I stirred up.

You write the next chapter - how did you get into the clergy and I'll use that for my story.

Grand Lodge

Oops - Izz'aldin Ab'rashid is Haleens brother not son. I'll assume little brother.

I'll adjust accordingly. I just read again and found him as a Magus...

Incidently I think that Inquisitors and Bards BOTH work well with Magi. I changed from a strength build to a dex, dervish dancer build... assuming we are both accepted we can train with each other. Be careful not to totally dump strength.

There is a big difference in carrying capacity at 9str - 4lbs. With a MW pack, that becomes 7lbs - and its more than it sounds even without armour.

Here is me as a work in progress - Abdul-Ghafur Nazari Yusif was his name on the street. Abdul-Ghafur being the name he later took on taking Holy vows. It means Servant of the Redeemer

Okay, I just read what you allowed.

Since I am only interested in playing psions right now, there is no place for me. :) No allowing of Psionics Unleashed, oh well.

Wait. Pathfinder has Psionics now, too? o_o *interested!*

It's right here on the Pathfinder d20 SRD.

Don't be so quick to dismiss the third party.

I'm not so much dismissing as I can't afford to buy everything out there. ^^ If I buy pathfinder material, I'd like it to be the official product so I can use it in the pbp's.

One of my play-by-post campaigns uses Psionics Unleashed. My second, a Star Wars campaign, uses 3rd party rules that adapts concepts from the Feng Shui roleplaying game to d20.

While I'm not opposed to anyone using 3PP or 3.5 aterial, I would just like to know what it is so that I can vet it first. Not all 3PP (or even 3.5) material is created equal.
Go ahead and submit your build so I can look it over.

Oops, I see where the confusion lies. That last sentence under feats probably should have been made it's own bullet point.

No, that's not where I was confused. However, I'll give you my build. Lets see, how to do this.

Matanga Concept, Movie Trailer style:

Fade in.

Scene on a village in Vudra.

"Is it true, dad?" a young boy asks. "Is it true that the Universe grants us what ever we ask?"

The father affirms, "It is true Matanga, my son."

Son smiles.

Cut to Katapesh.

A young boy of nineteen is in the land, looking for his fortune. And a couple of people laugh at a fellow Vudran on the ground as they pocket her gold. "Look at her, Vudrans are so rich and she can't even keep her valuables safe!"

"You better return the gold you stolen, thief," said Matanga.

"Why boy, who is going to make us?" said the thief.

Cut to the Theif. Cut to the Matanga's determined face.

Cut to Matanga's hand, as he raised his hand.

Cut to the thief's surprise.

Cut to Matagana's hand as mist gathers in his hand forming the shape of a dagger. The mist goes away to show that he is holding a dagger. "I will," says Matanga.

Cut to the battle with Gnolls, and Matanga is fighting very well with his dagger using Vudran martial arts.

Cut to a scene with a Wizard.

"So, you desire something, and it comes to life?" asked the Wizard.

"Yes, just like you do," says Matanga.

Cut to Matanga shooting a barrage of crystals at a Djinn.

Voice of Matanga: "Except I don't rely on a spell book to do my thing."

Cut to Matanga doing battle with a Djinn's minion.

Voice of Matanga. "A spell book is a crutch. A limitation."

Cut to Matanga in the citadel of the Djinn with his adventurers.

Voice of Matanga. "The human being was never meant to be limited."

Cut back to the scene with the Wizard.

Matanga's voice: "The human potential is infinite."

Matanga's Background:
Matanga comes from far off Vudra to Katapesh in order to find his fortune. He was born in a Vudra village learning the secrets of Moksha, Dharma, and Khama. Although most Vudrans never leave their homeland, some do leave. Matanga was one of these.

While trained as a psion, Matanga set about traveling the world at 12, seeking a well rounded Cultural education. Unlike most of those who trained under his Rishi who went with Telepathy, or Telekinesis; Matanga went with metacreativity. He honed the secrets of Desire, and managed to become a master of Manifestation. Although he hasn't truly mastered the secrets of metacreativity; he mastered them enough to join a silk trading expedition to Katapesh in order to seek his fortune.

However, his strangeness is beyond anything anyone could even take. His skin his dark, his face is different, and his eyes a deep green. His hair is black, but he carries a presence with him that seems to be one of self confidence. After all, he can make any cut with any crystal, shaping it into beautiful and deadly shapes.

*tak tik taktak schwish tak tiktak*

Matanga sees what appears to be a boy beginning to mature into adulthood, though the clothing and the coverings over the person's head and face make it difficult to tell, writing on a chalkboard. After a few seconds the stranger holds it up and it reads:
You're a strange one.

Silver Crusade

Matanga just smiles at Fajr.

Here is his character sheet on Myth-weavers. I'll incorporate his material in his lovely profile later.

Rogar Nameless, Dwarven Fighter (Unbreakable archtype)

long and involved, with dm notes at the end of the background

Background:

Rogar Nameless

Rogar has been a slave all his life. It’s quite impressive considering his age, but his skills have kept him being sold from one person to another. His earliest memories are of his parents, learning his runes from them, being taught how to work the forge, and the stories they told of dwarven heroes.
When he was old enough he was sold off and separated from his parents. He went to a copper mine for several years then was sold to an arena operating outside of the city. He was trained for a year with various weapons and armor. During that time he was also a practice fight and trainer for other gladiator slaves.
Before he was put in to fight his crafting ability was shown. He refused to fight with a sword, when asked why he showed them the flaw in the weapon by easily breaking it. He was then moved to the forge and in short work started fixing or remaking weapons. His value long term now much higher now he was sold again.
He spent several years being sold to various people, mostly to craft their household weapons and armor. He spent 8 years doing this, gathering tools as he went, making new ones as he needed. His last owner fell on hard times, and he was sold at a discount rate to one Azeem Afubari.
Azeem had gained rights to what was thought to be a played out iron mine and had plans to have Rogar mine and craft weapons and lead several other slaves. However azeem didn’t understand how long it would take for this to start up and has had to sell off some of his slaves, property, and assets to cover loans.
On Azeem’s last trip with Rogar to sell off the last other slave and get supplies Rogar heard a call from pactmasters for slaves willing to face overwhelming odds reclaiming a ruined village in exchange for freedom. With sudden inspiration Rogar answered the call. Azeem flew into a panic, trying to wave off the pactmaster as he came close to discuss terms. Azeem nearly entered a rage screaming that rogar was his property and that no one could take him, to which the pactmaster asked rogar his name, and then told rogar to return and gather his property. He would depart as soon as he could, and if azeem interfered he would be brought to the courts.
Rogar returned to the mine and took the chains he was kept in at night. He melted the shackels and joined the chains. He left azeem holding a Dorn-dergar, a weapon used by one of the heros from his fathers stories and carrying his tools.

Rogar has realized as he has matured there are many things he does not know. He wishes to find out his clan name, find what happened to his parents, and to know more about dwarves, their history and his family’s history.

Rogar is not world wise as some are, is unaware of most social ettiquite. His normal interaction with others is being bullied.

I spent money on my weapon, even by story I made it. Depending on how things go he will keep teh anvil and most gear on a horse. As they are his tools as a slave he wants to keep them. I would like to have him tattooed on his upper left chest to say that “this slave comes with tools included in price”.
not sure where are his gear/equipment will come from. Maybe selling a masterwork weapon he had been working on.

I intend at 9th level to start on stalward defender.

Mantaga just smiles at the boy, and with a flourish of his Vudrani clothing, starts writing on the same chalkboard. After a few seconds, he holds it up to Fajr and it read:

Nobody's perfect.

rolling money: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 4) = 12

A twinge of annoyance passes across what can be seen of Fajr's face as the strange man takes her chalk and chalkboard. She takes it back and wipes it clean.

*tak schrish tiktik tak tatak*

Most people don't talk to themselves in the middle of the streets like they are acting out a play.

Thinking this is funny, Matanga wrote on the chalkboard with the chalk:

*tak schrish tiktick tack tatack schrish*

You're making a worst scene than I could. How about you buy some silks?

Fajr just raises an eyebrow, almost as if she's asking what do you mean.

Fajr is a woman, but she looks like a boy of about 13-14 years, basically, she's aware of this so she's wondering why Matanga just asked someone, for all he knows is a boy, to go buy some silks.

Fajr wrote:
Fajr just raises an eyebrow, almost as if she's asking what do you mean.

"I sell silks," said Matanga. "Silk sheets for sleeping on."

He goes back to look at his stock, and finds it missing. "Or I did . . ." he growled.

Matanga is an usual merchant. He looks like Shah Rukh Khan. The silk he sells is for sleeping on.

*tak tikatak tak*

Fajr shrinks down, almost as if by reflex, as she holds the chalkboard up like a shield

Oh, sorry about your silks. I didn't see who took them.

"It must have been the gnolls!!" he said. "That's it, that's the last time they will take my merchandise! I'm going down there, and I'm just . . . just. . . going to take one of their women and sell her on the gladiator market!"

He looks at Fajr. "Wait a second," he asked. "What is your name, boy?"

*tak tiktak*
Fajr, and you?

"Matanga, son of Ahsoka," said Matanga. "It's felicitous to meet you, Fajr."

I suppose it's not a big deal whether the optional rules are used or not; the genie-binder concept works within the core mechanics. I'll finish writing up the character and post tomorrow.

Grand Lodge

All but ready - still waiting briefly on my brother from another mother - Izz'aldin Ab'rashid for some clarification on a shared background but if worse comes to worse I'll be finalising tomorrow.

Sorry, past couple days have been busy. Will finish tonight. Sorry for the delay.

Grand Lodge

I know teamwork feats are a bit of a waste but I'd love to look at buying one like Back to Back etc at level 3 or 5.

I'm submitting the fluff write-up for Alem abd-al-Hassan, LG male human conjurer. I wrote the history in prose; I feel that backstory exposited any other way just feels cold and unnatural.

I'll be going for the Freed Slave and Earning Your Freedom traits; I blame that wonkiness on the traits titles, and it's explained in the backstory.

Google Docs link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rG28ug1UAqRI6KATM2Ok-IhRSzOrwHZU4NnCN6B PwSM/edit

Just realized that those two traits are redundant with each other. I'll drop the Freed Slave trait and find something to replace it.

Grand Lodge

I'll just update my guy and update if Izz'aldin Ab'rashid comes back

Grand Lodge

Here is Abdul Ghafur Nazari - Inquisitor of Sarenrae. He is a thief by background but such skills are useful in service of the Dawnflower... especially to sort the innocent from the guilty and finding those who can be redeemed from their crimes and circumstances.

Level 1 spells are yet to be chosen.

Grand Lodge

To Izz'aldin Ab'rashid - check out the link. Not much in it that needs tie in to you, just a mention of me in your youth and me sneaking into your seminary and then no longer visiting... and word from Haleen to say not to worry

Just restating my interest. Still getting him ready, but I'm almost done.

Brushed up my back story - this is the scroll of my life now, for good or for ill

It's the last day of waiting... So exciting! ^^

Dark Archive

OK, the idea I have is sort crazy. Rashid Ibn'Hazid was an acolyte of Abadar who went on a missionary trip to the Mwangi Expanse. But once there he went "native." He became a cleric of Erastil ans lived among and worked with the Mwangi. They called him Goldeneyes for his his bright golden colored eyes which had originally been so prized by the Temple of Abadar.

He led many hunters after one of the great lizards of the Mwangi jungle that had killed some of the tribe's goats. They killed the tyrannosaurus rex but Rashid found a large egg. His closeness with Erastil cued him to the fact that it would soon hatch. Despite the advice of the tribesmen, Rashid took the egg and cared for the baby Tyrannosaurus, which he named Tuk Tak. Soon after, he received a letter from his uncle back in Katapesh. It told the true story of how his parents died and Rashid came to be in his uncle's care. His uncle also revealed to him that the village Rashid had grown up in was being returned to by an expedition. Rashid decided to return to Katapesh and his village and hunt the Gnolls responsible for his parent's death. Tuk Tak refused to stay behind and, though it was hard to find a berth for him on a ship, has accompanied him all the way to Katapesh.

---

So Cleric of Erastil with the Animal and Plant domain. I'd like to replace the first level power of the animal domain with an animal companion as described here. Then once the animal companion feature of the Animal Domain kicks in, we can just use those stats. I just can't think of any other way for him to bring his T-Rex. Eventually, I think I'll get some mounted combat feats and ride the dinosaur. That's for real.

Dark Archive

If it was not clear, I'd be taking the Reclaiming Your Roots campaign trait. It comes with some piece of equipment. I'm thinking maybe a breastplate. Perhaps his father was a soldier or something? Maybe something that ties into another PC's background. If selected, it's something we could figure out together.

I'm thinking a buckler and a cestus for him. This combination would have been useful in the Expanse since it would leave his hands free for climbing and what have you. Or maybe a spear. Or both.

Also, how cool is this?
