Hajar renews everyone's Endure Elements...

Rayhan Xohbadi |

Rayhan casts Fly on Khayal...
Indeed my lady. I have made preparations to return here. A favor, might I ask for a token, something you own that I might have to make the return a bit easier.

GM_Pace |

Shazathared at first started to untie one of her scarves across her form, but at Hajar's and Coldtooth's near-simultaneous clearings of their throats in the room, she switched to handing over one of her ankle bracelets. The thin gold chain has two tiny bells looking like seashells. "These have been with me for the longest time." she told Rayhan.

Rayhan Xohbadi |

Rayhan tucks them into a pouch with a bow A thousand thanks Mistress.
The problem with Teleport is that Rayhan can take himself and three others only per trip, so he has to memorize 3 spells just to return.... but now he can Scry on the pool anytime so that makes it easier for us to communicate/see what's going on back at our "base"

"Watch out, Big'Killa!" Yazi shouts to Khayal as she charges at the lion relief on the wall.

Khayal Bin Haleen |

Khayal looks over and asks Who are you? Even as Yazi’s blade’s come down. He is giving the creature a moment or two to be peaceful or surrender before launching into his attacks.

Bartan Harrowborn |

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Bartan is surprised by the act of Yazi attacking what he thought was a statue of a lion, but knowing Yazi, she saw something he missed.

Absolutely no chance of making that.
Giggling as the more uptight members of the group react to Shazathared's initial idea of an appropriate token, Nasir bids the marid farewell with an elegant bow and joins the others as they leave.
Her jaw drops in surprise as Yazi suddenly explodes into action, reacting to something few others could perceive, as usual.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Oh, yeah don't wait on that. We won't make that check.

SURPRISE ROUND
Init:
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Yazi: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Monsters: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6
His feet not quite touching the floor, Khayal merely held action as out of the wall a gargantuan object animated, twenty feet wide and cone-shaped. The massive head popped out and aimed straight for Khayal, the rest of the body...smaller, but shaped like a lion!
Yazi attacked, but only the first swing hit. Like the Brass Men, this brass lion's body rung after being hit. (-36 hp; will do Encounter Map later)
Slam atk: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (4) + 20 = 24 Dmg: 2d6 + 21 ⇒ (2, 3) + 21 = 26 plus Bull Rush: 1d20 + 28 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 28 + 2 = 39 (Khayal's CMD is 29 but he has fly!)
Khayal was shoved off of the smooth, guard-less ledge, but the fighter hung in the air.
The construct turned and showed lifeless eyes surrounded by that enormous head, or mane, to the other adventurers.

Bartan Harrowborn |

If we don't have haste up, Bartan casts haste. If we do, I'll have to consider what to do when I have a bit more time. Sorry for the holdup!

Khayal Bin Haleen |

Seeing that attempts at diplomacy will be of no value, Khayal flies back at it once again swinging his kukri on the way in. If he takes an AOO on the way in and knocks me back, I’ll just continue using my movement to close with him. Hopefully he only has one AOO Kukri: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (18) + 22 = 401d10 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16 confirm?: 1d20 + 22 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 22 + 4 = 371d10 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17

Rayhan Xohbadi |

Rayhan draws his trusty Rod of Extinguishing, he readies an action to dispel magical fire.

GM_Pace |

(24-hour rule!)
Bartan cast haste (The Encounter Map says all adventurers but Khayal. One of the azer can benefit too.) Rayhan readied with his rod of extinguishing, while the mercenaries got out their warhammers, the ones in back running closer.
Yazi was more direct. ('Backside' would have been 15 feet to step up; the creature's head is only 5 feet away.) Much like the brass golems, the brass lion's body is supernaturally hard, even more so, as her greataxe whittled off chunks.
Khayal also got a swing in on the massive head, finding the brass ringing as he hit, doing far less damage than thought.
Ignoring the flying human, the brass lion turned its' massive head and pushed its' way against Yazi, Hajar, and Nasir!
Slam atk on Yazi: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (10) + 20 = 30 Dmg: 2d6 + 21 ⇒ (4, 1) + 21 = 26 plus Bull Rush: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (13) + 28 = 41 (Beats 25, pushed back 3*5=15 feet.)
Bull Rush on Hajar: 1d20 + 28 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 28 - 4 = 29 (Beats 23, pushed back 5 feet.)
Bull Rush on Nasir: 1d20 + 28 - 8 ⇒ (14) + 28 - 8 = 34 (Beats 22, pushed back 2*5=10 feet.)
All three adventurers found themselves shoved against the wall, as the brass lion prepared to make them flatbread!
"No magic! Shatter it! Same spot together!" Coldtooth cried out, not to the adventures, but to his fellow fire-dwarves, who poised to run.
(Nasir, Hajar)

Bartan Harrowborn |

"If it's immune to magic, my cards are less than useless. I will attempt to continue helping aid your attacks, my friends!"
Bartan will take a moment to study the creature and determine if there are any spell effects that might specifically affect it, as he's seen constructs before that have such weaknesses.
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

GM_Pace |

Coldtooth is wrong, based upon observation. The Brass Men were living brass with a fire subtype, so they had construct traits as well as immunity to fire and magic.
The "brass lion" has shown no fire addition to its' construct traits. Just supernatural hardness of its' brass body. Therefore it is an animated object, albeit Gargantuan-sized in its' head only. Being an animated object and not a golem, it is not immune to magic, only that mind-affecting and fortitude-affecting magic has no effect on it.
And there is always the magic that affects things by affecting their environment, like grease, create pit, walls, etc.

Thinking quickly, Bartan surmises that this is an animated object, and it is possible that the spell that animates it was made permanent. If that's the case, he can attempt to dispel it.
Casting dispel magic on the big head, trying to dispel the likely permanent animate objects giving it pseudo-life.

Can't crit an object...boo. The 1d6 is fire, the other is Ice

GM_Pace |

Khayal paused, seeing Bartan cast a spell against the animated brass lion.
(If the object that you target is a magic item, you make a dispel check against the item's caster level (DC = 11 + the item's caster level). If you succeed, all the item's magical properties are suppressed for 1d4 rounds, after which the item recovers its magical properties. A suppressed item becomes nonmagical for the duration of the effect.)
(Book says CL 7th.)
Suppression clock: 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds
(Can't crit an object, Khayal. No organs to target, in this case. If I ever forget again, just remind me.)
The brass lion froze in place, losing the luster in its' living brass, and Khayal's blows thundered through the metal, causing the massive head to crumble.
Hajar's blade continued to hack away at the no longer animated creature, with the lionlike body becoming a twisted piece of metal.
The body of the brass lion remained unmoving.
(Out of melee.)

GM_Pace |

Relaxing, Coldtooth and the other azer come up and prod the statue with their warhammers. They discuss comments among themselves, Coldtooth translating. "Not living brass - no souls inside - but close. Still valuable to right seller, due to purity. There is a great amount here."

Bartan Harrowborn |

Bartan smiles slyly. "That worked better than I could have hoped. Well done, all." YYYYYAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!! BARTAN WAS USEFUL!!!!

Khayal Bin Haleen |

While the fly spell is still active, Khayal takes the opportunity to search the area of the lava flow and the chamber, brining along any Azer willing to help. perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

GM_Pace |

Coldtooth joins Khayal, the fighter's ring protecting him from the azer's fiery hair and skin.
Perception (aid): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Khayal sees a secret door set near the ceiling of the western side of the magmafall. Once pointed out, Coldtooth is very enthusiastic in outlining the door, which opens at the top. (See Encounter Map.)
The secret door looks like a garbage chute trap door. The tunnel beyond is unlighted.

Khayal Bin Haleen |

Provided it seems like Khayal has enough time he will explore it further, hoping the flame of the Azer will light the way. He is a little worried about time and will not press his luck too much.

GM_Pace |

The secret door swung securely shut after Bartan and Coldtooth entered it. The walls of the tunnel are extremely smooth brass, and you get the feeling that without fly, it would be very hard to climb against the brass as it goes upwards.
The secret door opens easily from either side.

Khayal Bin Haleen |

Khayal opens the door again testing it then props it open with a climbing hook then begins exploring the chute, bearing in mind the remaining time. Does the chute go up or down?

GM_Pace |

(It goes up at a steep angle.)
Climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Coldtooth tried dragging his boots across the brass walls, but even the nail-cobbled leather kept sliding on the surface.
"Need more than climbing apparel. Need magic." the fire-dwarf muttered. "If you are going to find top opening, we need lots of rope. Or chain. Chain be better. Tie hooks to hands, waist, put on chain. Tunnel too slick." Coldtooth told Khayal.

Khayal Bin Haleen |

Khayal wettens some of his rope and puts on the crampons from his climbers kit. He braces his hands against one wall and his feet against the other. Climbing the passage as if it were a chimney. Climb: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 = 10
Getting nowhere at all Khayal will go back outside the trap door and ask if anyone has another means of flying. :/
