Greyhawk 5E: Shadows of the Sheldomar (Inactive)

Game Master tribeof1

It is Common Year 591 and shadows hang over the Sheldomar Valley. The Grand Duchy of Geoff is a shattered land, conquered by giants, its people refugees in surrounding kingdoms. To the north, south and east, evil stirs in dark corners once thought safe. And in the border town of Hochoch, knights and nobles squabble in their keeps while a handful of adventurers meet in the Poxy Doxie, intent on a more immediate goal: gold.

Have been buried at work but should have a post up later tonight. Sounds like consensus after recovering the key is to move on down the stairwell?

Looks like I have to take a sick kiddo to the doc tomorrow, but I should be able to get a post up by lunch Tuesday or soon thereafter. Everyone good to move on from the library/cathedral? There's another vestibule on the far end with stairs leading up.

All,

I will be camping with my son's cub scout pack from this morning until Sunday afternoon and I will not have access to the internet. I just wanted to let you know in case things pick up this weekend.

Don't forget, Bless is up!

Hey all, I'm going to be out of town for training until Thursday, and don't expect to have much opportunity to post. This is a good spot to pause, so check back Thursday evening for the next update.

Sadly I am leaving tonight for another weekend trip and will not have much time to post until Sunday night or Monday. This is my last quick trip for a while but I will be traveling for three weeks in May. I'll have my laptop with me and should be able to post most days during that time.

I survived my day in hell (ie., stops in LaGuardia and O'Hare) yesterday, and will have a post up tonight.

EDIT: A post about the game, not LaGuardia and O'Hare. That would be too cruel.

M Humanborn

ugh, O'Hare, i HATE that airport. And Chicago. They call it the Windy City because it BLOWS.

Could not agree more...always seems to be a layover for me and I always need to change terminals, even when on the same airline with the same size equipment...ugh!

Got caught up with family visiting. Update tomorrow.

Apologies all, came down with a spot of the plague. (Daycare is a Petri dish). Hope to have an update tonight if possible.

So, leveling. I have been reading the book (Yes I do own the player's book) and have re-arrived at the conclusion that I want to take a 2 level Paladin dip. I was looking forward to level 6 as a blade singer for the extra attack. BUT I now believe that I cannot use Booming blade if I make two attacks as I am Booming blade allows an attack as part of the spell casting and is not in itself an "Attack Action". This sorta take away a lot of the advantage for the second attack. And Paladin is thematic for Karolyn anyway. Under a Dark Sun. can I get a read from you on this?

Thematically, I agree. But according to the multiclassing rules you'd need a Strength and Charisma of 13. And your Cha 8 would prevent you from using any paladin spells, along with several other abilities.

Female Elf (Eladrin) HP 43/38; AC 18/22 with Bladesong, Saves Str +0, Dex +3, Con +2, Int +6, Wis +2; Cha -1; Init +3; Passive Perception 12/17 with Advantage.

Hmm. Well that is that then. Do you also agree that if I use Booming Blade I do not get a second attack?

Male Human (Flan) Cleric 6; AC 16 (18 with shield); HP 32/45, HD 6/6; Saves Str +2, Dex +0, Con +2, Int +0, Wis +7; Cha +5; Init +0; Passive Perception 14; Spells: 1st 4/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 2/3 Channel Divinity 2/2

When levelling, do we roll our hit die or take the average value for our class, in other words does Kierdan roll a d8 or take the average of 5 hp?

Kierdan: Take the average.

Koralyn: Correct, they're mutually exclusive, because both use an action (each one giving various extras with that action). The Extra Attack feature and the scaling damage on cantrips are both ways the designers have tried to make characters' damage scale up with level, but they're not meant to stack.

Both the Extra Attack and the spell would still have separate utility - the spell does more damage if the target actually moves away, but Extra Attack has higher damage potential in most other situations (especially with a magic weapon) and can be used to split damage between two different foes.

I rolled...sorry.

I couldn't remember, either, but I went back to check the House Rules and Character Creation spoilers on the Campaign Info tab. It says in Character Creation to just use average HP after 1st level.

that's it?

Level 6: Taking a level of Wizard because other options are worse

+6 HP

Oh, was everyone ok with Koralyn claiming the hat of disguise. She will he happy to loan it when she does not need to hide her Eladrin race.

That looks right to me. You patron abilities are in the Custom Feats and Archetypes spoiler on the Campaign Info tab. Looks like the 6th level ability is this:

Veteran's Greeting (Level 6)
Starting at level six, your patron gives you the ability to respond to those that would test your presence. When a creature willingly enters your melee range, you may use your reaction to make a weapon attack against that creature. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Who gets veterans greeting?

Also are you allowing unearthed arcana feats?

It's the 6th level ability for Eldramin's warlock patron.

Dragomir: What feat from the playtest are you interested in?

Human Warlock 6; AC 16 (18 with shield); HP 39/39; Saves Str +2, Dex +2, Con +1*, Int +0, Wis +4; Cha +7; Init +2; Passive Perception 9

but the real question now is

Mirror Image or Gaseous Form?

Mirror Image is more rolls for me, so I'd vote Gaseous Form ;)

Male Human (Flan) Cleric 6; AC 16 (18 with shield); HP 32/45, HD 6/6; Saves Str +2, Dex +0, Con +2, Int +0, Wis +7; Cha +5; Init +0; Passive Perception 14; Spells: 1st 4/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 2/3 Channel Divinity 2/2

Kierdan is leveled and ready to go.

Careful not to disturb the zombies turning the crank, you drag a few waterlogged tables and warped wooden planks into the most secluded corner of the pump room, creating a dry(er) platform on which to rest, out of sight of the portcullis through which you entered - and have since locked behind you, hopefully cutting off any pursuers.

A fire is out of the question, so you huddle together in wet, stinking clothes and review your progress so far:

After your battle with the shambling mound and will-o-wisp on the surface - guardians, or simply swamp beasts that happened to be in the area? - you descended into the muddy ground.

At the bottom of a long, spiraling stair dripping with water from above, you found yourselves in a muddy chamber connecting to the intersection of two crudely-reinforced tunnels. Almost immediately you found yourself in combat with crazed, half-naked cultists who attacked with spears and thrown pots of venomous snakes. Victorious, you quickly chose the right-hand path, descending evening further down a narrow stone staircase.

A side room midway down the long spiral contained a pool of crystal clear water, filled piles of bones picked clean by frogs and cave fish. After spying something shiny, Dragomir bravely reached into the dangerous waters and snatched out a silver key, black with corrosion in places, that features an intricate series of teeth on one end and a knotted pattern on the other.

Further below, you came to the end of the stairwell, where a doorway had been dug leading into an ancient crypt. Within, Alistair nearly brought down the roof while incinerating a pack of ghouls with a fireball; after finishing the survivors, you climbed a short series of stairs to exit the crypt and enter a library-like cathedral (or cathedral-like library), where you fought a trio of foul harpies in the pitch black sanctuary.

From the harpies' nest you recover an iron-bound tome, Vol. 2
of the Enchiridion of Bohk
(which grants a +1 bonus to Intelligence (Arcana) checks when used as a reference), as well as a scroll of magic circle and a scroll of dispel.

From the sanctuary you traveled through a ruined vestibule, where the stairways leading up had collapsed. Through a fissure in the wall you gained access to a narrow crevasse that led to a cylindrical chamber with the appearance of the inside of a tower. Making your way into the chamber's water-filled bottom, you were faced with a pair of water-filled passages.

Taking the path with shallower water, you found yourselves in a series of natural caves infested with troglodytes. After slaying more than a dozen of the reptilian creatures, you continued on, eventually finding the portcullis that allowed entrance into this large pump room, where you defeated the guardian roper (recovering gems, a ring of jumping and a helm of disguise from its gut) and even now rest, while a circle of rotting zombies cranks the water wheel hauling swampy floodwaters back toward the surface ...

Across from you, beyond a wooden balcony, a second portcullis appears to lead farther into the complex. Somewhere beyond waits the naga worshiped as the Reptile God, guarded by her remaining followers and who knows what else ...

So, what do you do when you wake up from your long rest? (With refreshed spells, abilities and Hit Dice -- before Hit Dice reset, you can use any you had left to heal your wounds.)

Brawny
You become stronger, gaining the following benefits:
• Increase your Strength score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
• You gain proficiency in the Athletics skill. If you are already proficient in the skill, you add double your proficiency bonus to checks you make with it.
• You count as if you were one size larger for the purpose of determining your carrying capacity.

Human Warlock 6; AC 16 (18 with shield); HP 39/39; Saves Str +2, Dex +2, Con +1*, Int +0, Wis +4; Cha +7; Init +2; Passive Perception 9

do we get a feat at this level, or just fighters?

Well, hell. Just noticed I posted that in the discussion thread instead of Gameplay. Just go ahead and make your posts over there. Derp.

Dragomir, that would be fine. Instead of Athletic, I guess?

Eldramin: Just fighters (it will be listed as a class ability). It's actually an Ability Score increase, which can be trades for a feat instead.

Yea. I think we get it at 8th level.

Alistair,

I do not have my book with me to check, but I was thinking we learn 2 new spells per level, not one. I am thinking I'll learn Slow. One more if we get two.

Yep, wizards learn two new spells automatically at each level-up.
