Greyhawk 5E: Shadows of the Sheldomar (Inactive)

Game Master tribeof1

It is Common Year 591 and shadows hang over the Sheldomar Valley. The Grand Duchy of Geoff is a shattered land, conquered by giants, its people refugees in surrounding kingdoms. To the north, south and east, evil stirs in dark corners once thought safe. And in the border town of Hochoch, knights and nobles squabble in their keeps while a handful of adventurers meet in the Poxy Doxie, intent on a more immediate goal: gold.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in posting. I had a busy Saturday and Sunday and wasn't expecting so much activity over the weekend!

No problem, I just ended up with the chance to do some short posts over the weekend and took advantage while I could -- the next day or two are going to be busy for me, as well.

Female Elf (Eladrin) HP 43/38; AC 18/22 with Bladesong, Saves Str +0, Dex +3, Con +2, Int +6, Wis +2; Cha -1; Init +3; Passive Perception 12/17 with Advantage.

All,

I will be traveling this weekend to help my daughter move into the house she just bought. I leave tonight and her new house is without internet until next Monday so my posting chance will be slim. I return Sunday night.

A move then action surge to move again then action with 2 attacks

Sorry that I did not post the DC for the Hypnotic Pattern. I started questioning myself about how to calculate it. I think its 8 + caster stat bonus + plus proficiency bonus. But that does not have any modifier for spell level. Is that right?

If so then this spell for me would be 8+4+3, or DC of 15 and is a Wisdom save.

Dragomir: That works

Koralyn: Yep, that's correct.

Female Elf (Eladrin) HP 43/38; AC 18/22 with Bladesong, Saves Str +0, Dex +3, Con +2, Int +6, Wis +2; Cha -1; Init +3; Passive Perception 12/17 with Advantage.

It just seems so strange that the DC is the same for a 1st level and an 8th level spell.

Well, due to your proficiency bonus increasing, both get harder to resist as you increase in level. And theoretically, that 1st level spell could be just as powerful* as the 8th if cast with an 8th-level slot. (In practice, I think they still probably lag). And a spell is a spell is a spell when it comes to memorizing.

Sorry for the delay, folks, but I expect to have a post up later tonight. Holiday preparations + teething 8-month-old + dog swallowing a poisoned mouse have been a bit of a distraction the past few days.

So ... I'm adding in-laws to the list of excuses I posted Tuesday. Updates will be sporadic through the end of the year -- I'll sneak them in as time allows, but I'm not going to stress about regular posting, on my end or yours. Happy holidays!

Back at all of ya! Best wishes in 2017!

Happy New Year, all! I can't say the break was all that restful, but I'm ready to get back into things here. Post up in Gameplay! You've got some difficult decisions to make.

Hi all, sorry for the lack of a post yesterday. Will have one up as soon as things slow down a bit today. Alistair, I'm assuming you will use your time to research the crystal. Dragomir, last chance to post an action for your time back in Orlane, otherwise I'll assume you're helping Koralyn search for possible items to buy.

Human Warlock 6; AC 16 (18 with shield); HP 39/39; Saves Str +2, Dex +2, Con +1*, Int +0, Wis +4; Cha +7; Init +2; Passive Perception 9

So what would the structure look like for the "lifestyle" investments?

I currently only have 70gp, unless I have forgotten about other loot/coins/gems that were disseminated. Some of that GP was likely from character creation, and then i've gotten a periapt of wound closure. other than that, i don't recall anything.

Female Elf (Eladrin) HP 43/38; AC 18/22 with Bladesong, Saves Str +0, Dex +3, Con +2, Int +6, Wis +2; Cha -1; Init +3; Passive Perception 12/17 with Advantage.

I am completely unaware of the treasure we are selling and wha items we are keeping. Was anyone tracking that?

Human Warlock 6; AC 16 (18 with shield); HP 39/39; Saves Str +2, Dex +2, Con +1*, Int +0, Wis +4; Cha +7; Init +2; Passive Perception 9

Yeah, i think i got spoiled by all our loot being in the campaign tab in the Dark Sun game haha

Hmm... I wonder what might be found in the Campaign Info tab for this campaign... ;)

it, like the lands we walk, is a dark place, and i must never venture there

OK. Thanks for keeping that tab up to date. :)

By my math we have 5720 in gold value plus all the enchanted items. And we are not sure what is inside the 4 large amphorae. Are the amphorae worth 100 each empty or does that somehow include their undisclosed contents?

What does the group think about trying to buy the Bag of Holding as a group item out of funds before we divide?

Male Neutral Wood Elf Rogue (Assassin) Rogue 6; HP: 34/47; AC: 16; Saves: Str +0, Dex +7, Con +2, Int +4, Wis+1, Cha -1; Perc +7, Init +4; HD Used 2/5; Active Cond: None

I am for that.

Sure

Wizard/7 | HP 51/51 | AC 15/19 (w/mage armor) | Saving Throws: Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +5 | Init +5 | Perc +5

Great idea!

Male Human (Flan) Cleric 6; AC 16 (18 with shield); HP 32/45, HD 6/6; Saves Str +2, Dex +0, Con +2, Int +0, Wis +7; Cha +5; Init +0; Passive Perception 14; Spells: 1st 4/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 2/3 Channel Divinity 2/2

I agree with the bag of holding idea!

Female Elf (Eladrin) HP 43/38; AC 18/22 with Bladesong, Saves Str +0, Dex +3, Con +2, Int +6, Wis +2; Cha -1; Init +3; Passive Perception 12/17 with Advantage.

Well that is a majority so we will try to obtain that bag as a first priority. The arrows would be nice and we will certainly get a "best" price for them but I fear a +2 anything is going to be expensive and these are consumables, right?

Human Warlock 6; AC 16 (18 with shield); HP 39/39; Saves Str +2, Dex +2, Con +1*, Int +0, Wis +4; Cha +7; Init +2; Passive Perception 9

i'm for the party bag

The amphorae are worth 100 gp each based on their materials and craftsmanship; The contents were mostly meant to be creepy-- one is filled with blood, another oil, another ashes... I'd have to go back and check the adventure, but nothing particularly valuable.

The arrows would be priced like consumables... expensive consumables, but not bank-breaking. You should be able to get them and the bag for between about a third and about half of your total cash, depending on how you approach it and how you roll.

Okay, in case you're waiting on me because I was vague about price:

The asking price for the bag of holding is 2,000 gp. The old hunter offers to sell the arrows for 100 gp each (600 gp for the lot).

You can simply pay the asking price or attempt to talk each of them down with a Charisma (Persuasion) check and appropriate pitch. Either way, post over in the gameplay thread.

Female Elf (Eladrin) HP 43/38; AC 18/22 with Bladesong, Saves Str +0, Dex +3, Con +2, Int +6, Wis +2; Cha -1; Init +3; Passive Perception 12/17 with Advantage.

Not sure that Koralyn is the right person to be negotiating with a Persuasion of -1. Dragomir, you are up. :)

Male Neutral Wood Elf Rogue (Assassin) Rogue 6; HP: 34/47; AC: 16; Saves: Str +0, Dex +7, Con +2, Int +4, Wis+1, Cha -1; Perc +7, Init +4; HD Used 2/5; Active Cond: None

Nor Rolen, also at a -1.

Female Elf (Eladrin) HP 43/38; AC 18/22 with Bladesong, Saves Str +0, Dex +3, Con +2, Int +6, Wis +2; Cha -1; Init +3; Passive Perception 12/17 with Advantage.

I note that good ol' Dragomir is +5. :)

Kierdan has Persuasion +5, but he has spent the day in the temple, cleansing the cloak and getting to know the local clergy.

Human Warlock 6; AC 16 (18 with shield); HP 39/39; Saves Str +2, Dex +2, Con +1*, Int +0, Wis +4; Cha +7; Init +2; Passive Perception 9

I have a +6 and will help, if I have time to do it after the analyzing of the objects.

You do.

Female Elf (Eladrin) HP 43/38; AC 18/22 with Bladesong, Saves Str +0, Dex +3, Con +2, Int +6, Wis +2; Cha -1; Init +3; Passive Perception 12/17 with Advantage.

Sorry I have not been posting. I am traveling and hoped to have time to post while on the road. Did not work out that way. I'll be back to normal tomorrow.

I apologize for yet another delay, but been sick as a dog the past two days. Hoping some antibiotics start to knock it out. Will get things moving as soon as I'm able.

And Rolen, yes, poison would be available, but it's quite expensive: see here for the list from the DMG.

Male Neutral Wood Elf Rogue (Assassin) Rogue 6; HP: 34/47; AC: 16; Saves: Str +0, Dex +7, Con +2, Int +4, Wis+1, Cha -1; Perc +7, Init +4; HD Used 2/5; Active Cond: None

Rolen also purchases 1 dose of Drow Poison for 200GP. It has been taken off my gold tally in my profile.

I am back among the living-ish. Update incoming later today.

Female Elf (Eladrin) HP 43/38; AC 18/22 with Bladesong, Saves Str +0, Dex +3, Con +2, Int +6, Wis +2; Cha -1; Init +3; Passive Perception 12/17 with Advantage.

Does Koralyn get her False life spell off as well? It lasts an hour but without a good understanding of the descent I was unsure where best to cast it. I could imagine a descent requiring ropes and climbing gear that would have taken more than an hour.

Yes, no problem with her having cast that as you neared the bottom of the stair.

So tomorrow I leave for a week + of skiing. Its quite a bit of traveling and my days will be pretty filled. I hope to have internet but am not sure about quality or time availability. I'll post as time allows but please do not wait on me. I'll be back home on Sunday the 19th.

Human Warlock 6; AC 16 (18 with shield); HP 39/39; Saves Str +2, Dex +2, Con +1*, Int +0, Wis +4; Cha +7; Init +2; Passive Perception 9

Dont have my book in front of me, do warlocks get a spell slot back on short rest?

AC16, touch 11, flat-footed 15 |HP 13/[13]| CMB +5/CMD16 | Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +0 |Init + 1|Perception +0|Sense Mot +0 Male Human Fighter/1

I thought that was just wizards.

Warlocks get all of their spells slots back on a short rest. Which isn't as crazy as it sounds when you only have two slots.

ALSO, FOR EVERYONE: Koralyn's player is away for the week, but I have a pretty good idea how she'd react to killing unconscious prisoners, so I'm going to nip this in the bud before we get distracted with another ethical debate. The particulars of the naga's charm are messy, in part due to meshing a parts of a 1E adventure with 5th edition rules. Arguments could be made that they are more or less redeemable, but I don't really want to have that argument again. You have three party members who are neutral (not evil), and three who are good. Whether or not you can justify it for your own character, knifing defeated and defenseless foes is not going to go over with the group, so let's just avoid the issue.

Assume there are plenty of belts and straps and bowstrings with which to tie up the surviving cultists and stash them under the stairs. I'm not going to punish you for showing mercy by having them appear again.

And note for whoever designs the next edition: By making sleep the most optimal 1st-level combat spell, you've increased exponentially the number of situations where this comes up.

House ruling a saving throw per foe could work.

Male Neutral Wood Elf Rogue (Assassin) Rogue 6; HP: 34/47; AC: 16; Saves: Str +0, Dex +7, Con +2, Int +4, Wis+1, Cha -1; Perc +7, Init +4; HD Used 2/5; Active Cond: None

Ok...sure...really makes no difference.

Human Warlock 6; AC 16 (18 with shield); HP 39/39; Saves Str +2, Dex +2, Con +1*, Int +0, Wis +4; Cha +7; Init +2; Passive Perception 9

Sounds good. Eldramin is pragmatic enough to stab them, but nice enough not to if he knows metagamely that they won't be a problem

Hey all, I need to hear from more than just Rolen here. Ideally, a majority of the party before moving on. Do the rest of you want to keep on down the stairwell, search the skeleton pool, sacrifice frogs to the fish gods, etc?
