Merephel Angorat |
Merephel didn't even get the DC 10 Perception check. She just saw a shadow, and bolted!
Calden Tigg |
I think we're done for this day. I suggest we go outside, and find a place within sight of the crypt to rest and regain spells. The only place within the crypt that is suitable to rest is the room with the pool, but with that shadow still inside, a room without two exits could become a death trap.
(I'll also make this case in-character later, but this post felt enough for now.)

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I switched my domain spells, and swapped out Purify Food and Drink for Detect Magic. We are all on trail rations right now, so it shouldn't be needed.
So it looks like this now:
Spells Prepared:
Orisons: Detect Magic, Light, Stabilize
1st Level: Bless, Shield of Faith
Domain Spell Prepared:
1st Level: True Strike
GM Giuseppe |
Thank you Merephel.
Remember to remove one trail ration for each of you guys!
Calden Tigg |
Calden is currently at STR 14, which means Light load ends at 58 lbs. and medium load ends at 116.
With all gear on my equipment list minus the small tent, I'm at 43, which puts me at light. With two small tents (mine and Meph's), I'm at 83 lbs, which puts me at medium. I suggest we drop the tents at the entrance. If needed, I have some spare capacity to hold general gear for the others.
Calden Tigg |
Let's hope Merephel doesn't need Calden's help on the swimming, because with that roll I'd probably do more harm than good. :*)
Also, I assumed Calden would fail his appraise roll on the magical dagger, so I didn't actually make the roll. Seemed more fun this way, and another opportunity to drive home that he's coming from common roots. :)
Edit, to add something I noticed. Due to time zones, I've been the first to be able to respond to the GM a couple of times now. Because I want to keep things moving, I am pretty liberal with the amount of initiative Calden takes, in those cases. Please let me know if anyone considers that an issue, like if I'm assuming too much of other characters, or if I'm putting Calden on the foreground too much because of this. I'd rather know now, so that I can tweak my way of posting.

I was actually going to suggest we leave the tents too. Great minds and all that.
And no, it's great. The other three aren't as bold of personalities anyway, so I think it's fine.
Shirzon the Quarter |
I haven't felt like your posts are taking too much initiative or assuming too much of me. Shirzon would definitely let you know if she felt bossed around. ;D
Merephel Angorat |
So it looks like it took Merephel 3 rounds to swim down, all in a row. Then two rounds wasted with bad rolls, and two rounds to cast the spell, and two to find the key. Then two to swim back up most of the way, two failed rounds, and one last round to break the surface.
3+2+2+2+2+2+2=15 Rounds. So she should be ok.
Korech |
Nawh, we're good. Always push, and someone has to post first.
Korech |
Also, did we heal 1 or 2 stat/hp the previous night?
GM Giuseppe |
Korech, Merephel would have needed 8 hours in order to provide long-term cares. Unfortunately, she had to rest herself, and as a consequence she couldn't provide long-term cares.
GM Giuseppe |
Also, Merephel would have needed to attempt a DC 15 Concentration check to determine is she can cast detect magic underwater. I will roll for her here:
Concentration: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Ok, it's done.
Merephel Angorat |
I think I like Merephel in third. I, if no one objects, would like to make that her pseudo-permanent marching position.
Also, she would try and peel back the leather on one of the covered swords, and see if something is different there.
Shirzon the Quarter |
My armor check penalty is worse with my medium load. That makes me worse at Disable Device, but I don't want to take off my armor either, even if those swords are cushioned.
Who even writes a shadow into a level one adventure? x_x
GM Giuseppe |
Korech, please pay attention to the fact that you have 1 point of damage to your Strenght score, meaning that your melee attacks are made with a -1 penalty and you only deal 1d12+3 (instead of 1d12+4) points of damage with your greataxe.
Shirzon the Quarter |
I think, in Pathfinder, only even numbers matter when it comes to ability damage for the purpose of determining reduced ability modifiers. I will look it up, though, and get back to you on that.

I always thought it was an abstraction personally. However, let me know ;)
Shirzon the Quarter |
Ability score damage and drain rules
For every 2 points of damage you take to a single ability, apply a –1 penalty to skills and statistics listed with the relevant ability.
So it takes 2 damage to affect your rolls. Odd numbers are still relevant, of course, in determining additional damage and when your stats hit zero and such. I think this is the first time I've actually read it; before I was just told about it.

It still sounds like an abstraction to me. Why if a stat score goes from 16 to 15 one shouldn't be suffering a penalty? Never knew about this kind of abstraction, as it further reduce the usefullness of uneven stat scores, but if this is the rule we will follow it.
Korech |
Apologies for not including the penalty. I just wrote a post with the penalty, and now read this.
I'm with Giuseppe. That's... odd. I get what they're doing, and how it's distinct from ability drain, but that's a completely unnecessary complication.
But since the rules are in my favour here I'm happy to not take the penalty ;)
Shirzon the Quarter |
Yeah, it's a little strange, and both are just game abstractions. I'm just letting you know the RAW, do with it as you will.
I can think of reasons why they would do it like this, and I think each point of Strength damage, for example, still affects carrying capacity and things like that. But the important thing is how the GM wants to rule it, and to keep this discussion thread focused on this particular game. :)
Korech |
Neither can I! My best crit ever and I wasn't even the one to execute it!
Feel free to bot me more frequently ;)
Also, I just want to reiterate that the pinterest idea is great and I'm stealing it.
GM Giuseppe |
I've read some of your games and they're great Korech, so I'm very happy if one of my ideas can help you to improve them!
GM Giuseppe |
Also, to avoid a whole round of posts to be effectless, you may want to know that the other door in the pool chamber is locked and cannot be opened with the magical key. So, yes, the wailing or the shadow.
Merephel Angorat |
Leaving work now. I will make all those rolls when I get home, probably in an hour or so!
Merephel Angorat |
Gonna do the rolls here for easiness and lack of clutter.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
All done in the order listed in the gameplay thread.
Looks like I will need to invest in Skill Focus: Spellcraft. Although I DID get the wand! That's great!
Calden Tigg |
Wow, I missed a lot of excitement last night. Indeed, that's a mighty crit. Not bad on the damage rolls as well. :)
Merephel, Calden is still missing some health, and Korech as well. Is it an idea to channel once before we go to the wailing?
Once we get there: If Shirzon checks the doors for traps and moves to the last spot in the party order, that means Calden will be point, open the door and enters the room first. I'm assuming that Merephel has a Light spell active at all times, by the way. Correct?
GM Giuseppe |
Guys, I've decided that we'll deviate a bit from the RAW, assuming that if a damage to an ability score reduces it, you will take the matching penalty no matter if the damage is even or odd.
Merephel Angorat |
Yes, she keeps light up most of the time. And one HP back to you all.
Merephel Angorat |
Apparently my first (and ONLY magic item goal) is to see if we can find a Phylactery of Positive Channeling. My channel rolls are atrocious. Thank Shelyn I can convert to Cure spells, right?
Shirzon the Quarter |
You're rolling channels like I roll channels! I'm sure it will get better once you have some more dice on your channels.
Calden Tigg |
Well, it sure certainly can't get any worse once you're rolling more dice. :P
-Posted with Wayfinder
Shirzon the Quarter |
Totally understandable, it happens. :)
Merephel Angorat |
Not to worry!
Merephel Angorat |
These channel rolls will literally be the death of us some day.
GM Giuseppe |
I'm rolling dice like a God instead...Wish it was another Korech's attack! :D
Calden Tigg |
It just occurred to me that I may have forgotten to move my token on Roll20. Could you please move me to the back of the line, so that there is room at the door for Korech?
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Giuseppe |
Korech I couldn't see a reasonable way for you to close the crack in the door, so I've assumed that you just stopped trying to break the door.
Shirzon the Quarter |
As a rogue, Shirzon just ends up with a lot of expensive weaponry I guess! ;)
With my high Dex and lots of Strength damage, I think Roldare's masterwork crossbow will be a decent weapon for me right now. Would anyone else like to hold on to the masterwork shortsword or +1 dagger?
Is the crossbow light or heavy?
Edit: Oh, also, how many bolts can he offer?
GM Giuseppe |
Guys 'm going to post again 2 hours from now, so if you would like to interact with Roldare please take this last chance. Where are you headed now?
