Darius Redgrave |
Darius moves over to Jominda and placed himself between her and the renegade shackles and defends her if the shackles or anything else comes flying that way.
"Someone want to bag this haunt for us?!" He yells then says to Jominda and Spugnoir "Don't you two have any acid to take care of those shackles?"
Spugnoir2 |
I can try! Fire in the hole! Spugnoir throws a flask.
AC 14/12/12 (16/12/14 with Mutagen)
Saves F5/R5/W2(4 fear) (+2 vs. Poison)
Weapon in hand:Morning Star
Special effects: Mutagen,
Bombs:4/6
Touch,fire: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 171d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
GM Foxy |
The flask detonates in the middle of the room but the manacles seem unaffected.
The manacles are tiny and therefore share the space with Grergof making it difficult to work with area weapons
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Hold! It's not here...
On the next round he expands his search area around the room through the walls, and if he sees nothing then through the ceiling and finally the floor.
All the while backing out of the room
Where is it?
Darius Redgrave |
Darius scans the room looking for any signs of the next attack and any clues to the source of the haunt, never dropping his sword.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
GM Foxy |
The manacles still hover in midair and try to smash into Grergof's arm to grab it.
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d3 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
Grab: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
The manacles slam into Grergof's left wrist (doing 1point of non leathal damage) and snap closed. The other end of the manacles tries to reach the second wrist.
Brother Grergof Varsk |
After the manacle snaps on his hand Grergof narrows his eyes.
It moves like a snake, maybe we can capture it and then find what is animating it.
Holding his arms far apart as he can he drops his scimitar behind him from his free hand, so he does not harm anyone else.
I assume some of you know how to capture a snake behind it's head. I'll keep this thing's it's attention if someone else grab this thing by the cuff...
With that he continues to try to keep the thing off his free arm, but keep the things attention while not moving faster then necessary to allow others to grab the madly flapping chain.
again full defense. Anyone else want to help?
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Thank you My Spugnoir. I perefer not to be trapped here.
It has to be smashed hmmm.... What if we both kneel down on the floor and hold the chain still. Then Miss Hailiss you can use my flail to smash the chain.
Do you all think that will work?
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Cant she take 10 as there's no stress...
I'm just thinking that trying to walk back to town to get the blacksmith to do it (who I was planning to ask to remove the cuffs) would be impractical while haaving the thing contently fighting to get to my other wrist.
Darius Redgrave |
"Hayliss, Lucy, any chance either of you have cold magic to use against these maniacle manacles?" Darius says and he helps Spugnoir to hold the manacles steady.
Darius will use the aid another action to help Spugnoir in any chicks he needs to make to hold the manacles. So that's a +2 if I'm not mistaken.
GM Foxy |
You would have to roll normally and reach a 10 to give him the +2 bonus.
And telling that there is no stress suggests that you're blissfully ignorant ;). Hitting 8 inch of chain between now three of your allies with an imprecise potentially deadly tool is a lot of stress. I know a good smith in Ravengro...
Brother Grergof Varsk |
I suppose...
This will not be a fun walk back to town with this thing struggling the whole way.
He carefully stows his lantern, picks up and sheeths his sword and then looks around.
I'm ready to go I guess.
Brother Grergof Varsk |
To move this along. Since the thing is pinned by 3 of us I would think we can just hand wave this but if you need me to roll I will.
With Spugnoir's and Darius' help Grergof grabs the manacle in his chained hand and holds it tight.
Control Grapple: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
And fails miserably.
GM Foxy |
... you get a +5 circumstance bonus on grapple checks made against the same target in subsequent rounds. You only could fail on a nat 1.
Yominda is sufficiently scared, Darius almost out of divine powers and Grergof is grappled by and grapples some manacles that twitch in his hand. So the motivation to leave has reached a point where further exploration is not considered anymore.
Walkin back the short way out of the Harrowstone the slamming door haunt of the foyer delays the attempt to leave for another minute provoking another shriek from Jominda.
The group walks back the way around the hill to the city and arrives at the marketplace where a polished sign with rusty engravings tell that the building with the prominent chimney is the Ravengro Forge. From inside the typical rhythmic clang of hammering iron is heard.
Brother Grergof Varsk |
As they approach town Grergof turns to Jominda.
Thank you Mistress Fallenbridge for all your help today. I trust you got your fill of the prison? Still more importantly, I trust you are unharmed?
Assuming he gets an affirmative response he smiles and says:
Good. Please let us know if you plan on visiting that place again. As you can see he holds up his manticled hand and shakes it, looking around at the whole group, nobody should be going there alone. There are far too many dangers for that.
Then he leans in close and softly says:
And if you can keep an eye out around town and quietly let us know if you see anything odd I would appreciate it.
Those undead last night and the defaced monument did not happen at the prison, but right near town. Something bad is happening around town and we are not sure what yet.
To speed things up
When the group arrives at the smithy Grergof says goodbye to Jominda then heads into the smiths shop. As he entered forge he brightly says: Ho the forge, Do you have time for a small custom job?
Jominda Fallenbridge __ |
"I'm unharmed, no worries." Jominda replies. "And that Harrowstone is really interesting but you know I have an apothecary to run, so I won't have the time to accompany you on your further visits." she lies.
"But sure I'll keep you up to date on the things happening in town. You can visit me and tell me about Harrowstone and I can tell you the towns gossip."
But she leaves not yet. She is too curious about what will happen with those manacles.
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Grergof smiles at the Dwarf Female.
No good Forge Mistress. But I completely understand why you might think that.
The full story is:
Given to the dangerous happenings last night, My companions and I went to look at the Horrowstone Ruins. We believed they might be somehow related to the skeletons that were raised for some reason.
In the course of our explorations we had the misfortune to run into this.
He holds up his hand with the still struggling manacle.
It appears to be some sort of enchanted manacle that the jailers used to hold prisoners long ago. As you can see it has developed an attachment to me.
Now you have no idea who we are and I would understand completely if you wanted to verify my words. As a matter of fact, I would probably do exactly that if our roles were reversed. So I will tell you Mistress Fallenbridge was present when this event happened, and the good sheriff, while not approving of our investigation, is aware of our doing so. If you want to check with either if these good folk I would be more then happy to wait wherever you would like.
Jorfa |
Jorfa looks at the faces of the people one after the other. "Ok. But that will cost you three silver. Hold the manacles over the anvil here. And hold still or it will hurt a lot."
Jorfa goes over her selection of hammers and chooses a large one she wields with two hands. As Grergof places his hands left and right of the anvil and holds the chain in place she hammers it with a mighty swing.
Damage CdG: 4d6 + 8 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 2) + 8 = 18
The chain is flattened and actually broken in several places. All 'life' is gone from the manacles.
"Are they done?" Jorfa asks as she stops her second swing above her head.
Brother Grergof Varsk |
No I can't. I was hoping you could do that too.
Darius Redgrave |
Darius thanks Jominda for her help. "Jominda I'm glad that you are unhurt. It was a harrowing experience, excuse the pun. But we all live another day to investigate this mystery. I'm sure we will see you again." And with that Darius makes a bow and leaves the apothecary to catch up with the rest of the group.
Jorfa |
I assumed everyone came with Grergof and Spugnoir into the forge.
Jorfa grabs Grergofs's arm and checks how to open that thing. She gets a foot of iron pipe and sticks it into the round hole of the anvil. Then she moves Grergof around until he is in a position to to hold his arm in a way that the manacle is sitting with the rim on top of the tube to be able to hammer the bolt at the hinge out. Which is rather uncomfortable as the height of the anvil is adjusted for a dwarf. She takes a spike and a hammer and with a dozen blows to the thing the bolt is driven out. She exchanges the tube for some steel wedge and places the slightly opened manacle on top of that driving it down with the hammer bending it open far enough for Grergof to remove it from his arm.
"As you requested." she says. "That's three silver now. And don't you dare to leave before you collected every damned piece of this cursed manacle. I don't want anything of that close to my forge." Jorfa demands.
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Of course Mistress?...
Grergof holds out his hand to shake Jorfa's hand.
Regardless of how she responds, he takes off his backpack, pulls out a gold coin and hands it to her, asking for 6 silver back. While she makes change he gathers the manacle parts and drops them in his bag.
As he gathers his change he looks around.
You would not happen to have any Bucklers around would you? I may want to pick one up at some point in the future.
Spugnoir2 |
How about we meet back at Kendra's home and we start buying what we need? Or we can all go to the church together and give a report to the Father so he will hand over more equipment.
