f Elf bard/4. Init +2/Low-Light Vision/Perception +11/ AC16, T12: FF14/

Sorry I've been ill recently, I'm getting back to general life and online tonight and catching up on whats been going on.

Hope you are better.

Let me know when the group is ready to head out to the Harbor. Don't want to rush anyone.

f Elf bard/4. Init +2/Low-Light Vision/Perception +11/ AC16, T12: FF14/

Hi I have the net again here now. I hope people are ok after the storms, I do not know where all of you are but just in case I hope all is well. So so sorry for not posting in a while, I have had a lot of things to deal with but they are getting back to normal now.

Hope Elorin can read well.

Welcome back Elorin!

Glad to see your doing okay, i'm in Alaska, other then it is winter time once more theres no superstorm coming our way. :)

At least not this year! xD

Good luck and don't fail that save Thalas! Or else the physical challenge will be keeping you and Seltyn in one place!

We will see who likes riddles! It may be easier than what's in my pocket, though one of Gollum's three guesses would be right in my case.

f Elf bard/4. Init +2/Low-Light Vision/Perception +11/ AC16, T12: FF14/

I like riddles, not logic puzzles. I am a lateral thinker. But I did my best.

Glad to be back Wil. Wow I bet the Alaskan winter is beautiful.

It can be, it's just cold :)

Working in the oil field up north is where it gets super cold, beautiful landscape but freezing wind chill and temperatures. In the winter the sun never comes up so yeah your as north as north can get :)

f Elf bard/4. Init +2/Low-Light Vision/Perception +11/ AC16, T12: FF14/

That sounds amazing. So jealous.

It can be but -110 F* is NOT fun! Your numb in a short as a breath if your not geared up right, because usualy its 40 below with a wind chill of about 40-50 that brings it down to -110 lol. That wind is sucks the heat out of you.

The Summer up there the sun never sets :) In Spring/Aut we have normal sun up and down rotations. But it is an uncommon sight to see both the moon, sun and Aurora Borealis all at once. But its neat when you can see the moon and sun both out at the same time. :)

would love to see it. I like the cold better than the heat. I bet the no sun or all sun messes with your body clock though.

I was so frustrated by the puzzle I went online and tried an easy one. It seems I've forgotten how to do logic puzzles! Same with Algebra.

There was a time when all I spoke was Spanish, but it seems I've forgotten a lot of that, too. On the rare occasion I have to speak it now, I forget simple phrases that I never had to recall before. It just came to me without trying to remember.

Use it or lose it, kids. That's Seltyn's advice to you youngsters. lol

That name's a joke. How do you figure all that out so certainly from so little info? Is there a trick? I haven't done that sort of thing since I took the GRE.

Of course the name's a joke, I was just engaging in the spirit of it. :D

As for the puzzle, here's how I got started:

Scroll 9: The dwarf lives in the first house.
Scroll 14: The dwarf lives next to the bald wizard.

are "absolutes" that place the Dwarf in House 1, and a bald wizard in house 2. Then,

Scroll 1: The hobbit has brown hair.
Scroll 4: The wizard with white hair lives just left of the wizard with black hair.
Scroll 5: The wizard with white hair drinks mulled wine.
Scroll 8: The wizard in the center house drinks strong ale.

is a little bit more "relative" in that they depend on their relationships with one another (except 8). We know that the Hobbit cannot be in House 1 or 2 because he's neither a Dwarf nor bald, and similarly the white hair / black hair relationship means that those two wizards are also not in House 1 or 2. Therefore, Houses 3, 4, and 5 have wizards with black hair, white hair, and brown hair.

Now, because we know that "white hair" is LEFT OF "black hair", "white hair" has to be in House 3 or 4. BUT! "White hair" drinks mulled wine, and House 3 is known to drink strong ale so "white hair" can then only live in House 4 - placing the Hobbit with brown hair in House 3, a wizard with white hair that drinks wine in House 4, and a wizard with black hair in House 5.

Moving on, then,

Scroll 7: The wizard with gray hair is a diviner.
Scroll 12: The wizard with the raven familiar lives next to the diviner.

#7 can ONLY mean the Dwarf wizard, since we know House 2 is bald and House 3,4,5 have brown, white, and black hair (respectively). From this, House 2 has a raven familiar.

From here, you can see on my spreadsheet that I lined up the remaining clues according to possible options. I had to go to a work meeting at this point, during which time Elorin finished what I'd begun to solve the riddle. The gist of it, though, is that because I knew House 2 had a non-frog familiar, I had to fill in his race, drink, and specialty with the available options,

Scroll 3: The human drinks honey mead.
Scroll 11: The transmuter drinks well water
Scroll 13: The elf is an abjurer

Scroll 10: The evoker has a neighbor with a cat familiar.
Scroll 15: The evoker has a neighbor who drinks apple cider.

Scrolls 11 and 13 both mutually contradictory, and do not complete this wizard's information so we have to take Human that drinks mead. His only remaining piece is specialty, which as an evoker we can use to complete both House 2 and then House 1. At this point, the remaining options fall into place naturally as we continually reduce the other House's options to the point where there is only one choice left that can be placed.

I put my solution in the campaign tab. It is a variation on a puzzle originally attributed to Einstein that I converter to D&D and then to pathfinder.

Einstein puzzle

I was looking forward to picking up the necklace lol but it is ok. You were acting as your character would. So long as it's not meant personal against me as a player, then me the player the is ok with what you did.

It's absolutely not on a player-basis; while Thalas may be *cough*is*cough* a more direct player/character analogue than most of my characters, I spent a good four, five hours last night deliberating whether or not to do it precisely because of the potential for player discord.

On a character-basis, remember that he's "wise" but not "smart" - which I've chosen to represent as having good instincts and perception of things, but not so good at having to think on his feet about something. So for him, the Black Citadel's being here is like setting off a five-alarm alert and after the poor outcome of the past game-week's events (including your death), desperation is a significant factor at this point. Not least of which is that he also feels that he'd rather you were mad at him, than dead. Obviously we know we got the right answer, but in-character it's a bit more vague still since the only confirmation is to see what happens.

Ah, now it seems obvious. Thanks for the walk-through.

If Thalas is sure we're right, or at least pretty sure, there's no reason for a lot of us to go. That would just be more people killed if we're wrong.

f Elf bard/4. Init +2/Low-Light Vision/Perception +11/ AC16, T12: FF14/

it is ok, i believe you it wasn't personal. lol. I am looking forward to seeing what happens.

PS: Elorin wants it hehe.

but she is first and for most a diplomat so she will share before taking. Also she knows some people will get more languages out of it and therefor way more use out of it. It is important to her to share with the new friends and keep the possibility of joint venture open by acknowledging their part as one team.

Her claim to it is she loves languages and has tried to learn as many as possible in her life so this is a huge prize to her. Also as she is set up to do most of the talking for the party the more languages she knows the more people she can talk to and be the face of the party to. So that is all really. I know others can make better use.

Anybody would like it, but the best benefit for the group would be to give it to Seltyn. More spells per day, higher DCs, etc. He's got no magic items other than a few scrolls.

I have nor want any claim on the item but thanks though. ;-) will has two items, one of which i want room offer to talon since he gave up that armor earlier.

But i have a magical sword that azlain is borrowing still. which is totally college!

Btw are you still with us again?

I figured others would get more use from it than she would. Happy for Seltyn to take it if he wants.

Does wil get an AoO for her casting near him?

She was in difficult terrain and couldn't five foot step, so she had to make a defensive casting roll as Talon did (as well as an entangled casting roll to succeed).

By the way--one year anniversary is Dec. 9!

Some of you were there at the beginning. Hope it has been fun.

Male Elf Ranger 4

I know that it could have been placed much better. However, it's Talon's first spell ever, and I was trying to work out whether he would instinctively know the range limitations and so on. I figured he probably wouldn't, and therefore placed it directly as I did. It still helps Wil in a roundabout way as it forces the witch to roll a ton more dice. Albeit for very low DC's, but the more dice you have to roll to do something, the more chances that you have to screw things up. At least that is something that playing Bloodbowl taught me.

Looking forward to the anniversary. Wondering what you have set up for us on December 9th :D
