It's up to you, Alex, I trust you'll choose us a good player. My only criteria for a new person at this point is: "Unlikely to leave the group", which is obviously difficult to determine.
It's a harsh reality of this particular medium. I've lost two players in my CoT game, fortunately both player's filled the same spot so I still have 5 of my originals as we are very near to moving into book 2.
Jeremiziah |
Yeah, First of all we've had Sully's CotCT game, which just died when the DM disappeared. Then this game lost Flute. Then my own CoT game lost a player. Then this game loses Stormchaser.
I'm just frustrated and annoyed, that's all. None of this is to take anything away from whatever Stormchaser has going on, which I'm sure is quite important and time-consuming. It's just an issue with me personally. Anyway, I don't intend to continue grousing about it - sorry for taking up everyone's bandwidth.

I put a lot of effort into my games and spend hours trying to make things interesting, making maps and coming up with twists. I do always maintain regular updates and do my best to run a good game, but perhaps i'm not running the style of game or DMing you guys enjoy.
Its difficult not to take players dropping personally, as always.
Alex, this is one of the best games I'm involved with, which is in no small part due to the work you put in to make it really enjoyable. I'd like to thank you for all this so far, I definitely don't want this to fizzle out.
And Jer, I know how you feel, several of the games I'm involved with, either DMing or participated in have gone belly up....I think in many cases PBP means 'Perseverance by Post'...

Excellent news- and thanks. Gwen's up btw.
Player input regarding the submissions is certainly a welcome- I agree that Dan E's submission currently has caught my eye in particular.
Not that my opinion on the matter should make a difference, but I agree. Of the submissions that are currently there, Dan E's Marcus Alanto, Unlikely Pirate is the best of the lot in terms of party fit and background.

Bummer... ;)
Of course I do have concepts for a fighter, paladin and a wizard... maybe they would be a better fit? :)
Cheers
EDIT: And just to add, given some players apprehensions about reliability, I can assure you that I will not drop from the PBP due to RL conflicts, boredom or otherwise... barring getting hit by a bus or something... ;)

Alex,
I see that you are calling for multiple acrobatics check for avoiding multiple opponents. I thought they changed that in pathfinder to making one roll vs. the highest potential attackers CMD and increase the DC by 2 for each additional attacker avoided in 1 round.
I could be wrong....just working from memory.

I think its down to DM discretion how you want to do it- but I also wanted to make Chi aware thatthe musk creeper will be attacking her too during her movement. I'll run it how i've mentioned it for now but if I see the RAW disagrees ill note it for future reference.

Could be a combination of the two, or at least that's how I remember in from 3.5 (Base DC 15, 17 for the 2nd target, 19 for the third etc.)

Really appreciate the opportunity and kind words.
Alex, I've statted Marcus up on my profile will keep it off board for now.
1. Starting Money
Not sure how you want to go. Tried to glean a clue from the last joiner but that seems to have been pre-lvl 2.
Gear list assumes 2nd level starting money so I will finalise after this is confirmed. Bow will disappear overboard and armour will degrade if you want 1st level.
2. Fighter Alternate Paths
Still considering these. Do you have issues with any?
In terms of working Marcus into the party I'm completely open. He is currently tired, wet, cranky and blissfully unaware of any dangers on the island so if he sees any sign of the camp he will likely wander straight in.
Marcus Alanto |
Alex, Marcus should be ready for initial review.
I've struggled a bit to get to a decent weapon and shield build. Later levels will go down the shield bash feat line to get free bull rushes to hopefully help protect the squishies. I may get trip in there as well although the build is incredibly feat greedy.
I'm looking at either the Shielded or Two Weapon archtypes. The later only if your of the view that dual wielding weapon and shield counts as two weapons. Frankly, thats always seemed a bit cheesy to me as Two Weapon just seems better (although Shielded would let me give dodge bonuses to my relatively poor AC allies).
Marcus' background leaves vague whether any of his "friends" made it off the ship. Happy to leave that to you. He is certainly not going to want to admit to any new friends that he was on board a pirate ship so any reunion might be a tad uncomfortable for him.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Two Weapon Fighter archetype is actually fine. Its not remotely cheesy- two weapon fighting is more MAD, is mostly dependent on full attacks which you often can't get, and is very feat heavy. Go ahead and Two Weapon Fighting archetype away.
Notes for your character-
13 intelligence qualifies for another language at character creation.
Combat Expertise/Threatening Defender- You have it down as +1 to hit, I assume you mean no penalty on attack rolls from using combat expertise. With TWF sword and board such a feat intensive path, you may want to drop combat expertise in favour of double slice or another TWF styled feat, but thats just my opinion.
Heirloom Weapon Trait- I normally only allow it if the character in question has the proficiency for the weapon in question- you do, so no issues.
You may wish to put the stats down for when you use the Falcata in two hands- +8 to hit, 1d8+4 damage.

Ah, OK, you meant d8+2=5, not d8+2-5, then. I saw "-5" and thought I had to subtract five from however many HP I was healing. That would stink!

Indeed that would suck.

Ok after a bit more thought (agonising):
- Combat expertise plus trip plus shield bash plus bull rush seems just a tad over the top featwise.
- I've dropped Int a couple of points, swapped int and wis and raised strength to 17. This neatly avoids the need to think up a language.
- Swapped Combat Expertise for Improved Shield Bash.
- Will take Two Weapon Alternative Feature and Double Slice at lvl 3.
Think this should be final.
Marcus Alanto |
Sorry missed this before.
I had envisaged a pirate captain nominally under the pirate lord who rules Quent.
I assume the Aspis Corporation are interested in anything that can hurt the organised raiding coming out of the Shackles without damaging their own interests.
Marcus could have been part a sponsored strike against infrastructure maybe docking or ship building facilities run by the pirate lord.

I was going to post that I had a horrible mental image of half torso zombie james but someone beat me to it.
From a rules perspective is the scroll unusable? A bit thorny but I assume the characters would use if there was any chance.
Perhaps the terrifying necrotic energies of the island create horrible death knight bbeg james. Nah alex isn't that mean.
Jeremiziah |
Gwen is the only person to have examined the scroll (so, she's the only one who knows what it is), and she hasn't talked to anyone about it.
While I agree that the most immersive in-character thing for her to do would be to use the scroll, I'm jaded enough about the transient nature of PbPs, and I'm not going to waste a valuable resource on a character the DM killed just because his player left. So yes, I'm totally metagaming, here. :-p

To avoid you having to metagame note that raise dead won't work on a body torn in half like James- I added that part of the description in exactly for this reason, so that you couldn't raise James even if you wanted to, and so you wouldn't feel like you were metagaming it.

I can't tell if the magic darkwood buckler from the party loot list has been allocated. If not this would be useful to Marcus for a temporary block set.
One last question. None of the wrecks searched have had any useable boats right?
James was using the darkwood buckler.
Definitely no boats found.
Marcus Alanto |
Nah. Gwenyth should definately take.
Most of the time Marcus will fight with sword and light spiked shield so he can dual wield the later.
I was looking to poach the buckler for a defense set (thinking that sooner or later we will end up in a fight where Marcus will be looking to hold the attention of something nasty and AC will be more important than extra attacks) only if it was spare.
I think "I may use every fight" trumps "I will only use for some fights" regardless of melee vs caster.
