My action, no mater the outcome of Nev's attack:

5' step to N24. All attacks go on Ettercap 5. I'm using Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Manyshot and Clustered Shots. If it falls, spillover goes against Ettercap 4.
Attack 1: 9+19+1=AC 29, damage 2d8+6+2=16 + 9 fire + 8 electricity.
Attack 2: 19!+19+1=AC 39, confirm roll 11+19+1=AC 31, damage 1d8+3+1=10x3=30 + 5 fire + 4 electricity.
Attack 3: 9+14+1=AC 24, damage 1d8+3+1=8 + 3 fire + 5 electricity.

Here is the map.

Nevharath moves forward to take the attack to the enemy. But the ettercap is nimble for an undead creature, and narrowly ducks under the kalashtar's blade.

Just to let you know, you missed even with the extra bonus from Haste.

Janosz moves forwards steadily, laying down a hail of arrows. They tear gaping holes in the ettercap and make it stagger, but as Janosz pauses to reload, it staggers forwards to grab him as another closes on Gelb. At the other end of the bridge, one reaches for Rod with its claws while the other two surround Nevharath.

E1 and E3 attack Nev, E2 attacks Rod, E4 charges Gelb, E5 attacks Janosz. They are using claws.

E1 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 15 + 2 = 35 to hit, damage 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 3) + 5 = 15. if you are hit, you may also be Grabbed. 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 15 + 4 = 31 v your CMD, if this succeeds you are Grappled
E2 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26 to hit, damage 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 6) + 5 = 13. if you are hit, you may also be Grabbed. 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 15 + 4 = 34 v your CMD, if this succeeds you are Grappled
E3 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 15 + 2 = 19 to hit, damage 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 5) + 5 = 14. if you are hit, you may also be Grabbed. 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 15 + 4 = 31 v your CMD, if this succeeds you are Grappled
E4 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34 to hit, damage 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3) + 5 = 12. if you are hit, you may also be Grabbed. 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 15 + 4 = 30 v your CMD, if this succeeds you are Grappled
E5 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28 to hit, damage 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 1) + 5 = 13. if you are hit, you may also be Grabbed. 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 15 + 4 = 22 v your CMD, if this succeeds you are Grappled

Gelb.

It hit me (barely), but I'm ungrappled.

"Don't worry, Gelb, I'll save you. Eventually."

"Likewise," Gelb grunts from the impact as he struggles to escape.

Gelb is grappled.
Standard Action: Escape Artist skill to escape grapple.
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (18) + 24 = 42 vs. ettercap's CMD.
Move Action: if he escapes, Gelb moves to join Janosz at N25.
Acrobatics (threaten area): 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34 vs. ettercap's CMD.

Gil

14 and 13 damage taken, and grappled.

HPs: 96 / 96, APs: 11/8 Effects: Karnnathi Wizard (Universalist) 12 / Cataclysm Mage 1

After Gil...

Ezreal steps forward and begins chanting and tracing runic sigils through the air around him each one flaring with silvery light while remaining suspended in the space around him. Seconds pass and the mage continues tracing out what could be an intangible tablet or scroll in some unfamiliar flowing script.

5'step to M6
Begin casting Summon Monster VI on the assumption that these are only the minions of a shrine guardian.
Casting Time: 1 round

Also notable- For those who rely on light to see I think Ezreal is the only source at the moment.
20 radius of normal light on Ezreal.
20 foot radius beyond that of dim light.

Someone need to take Gil's turn - AG said he'd be doubtful for a lot of this month.

I am hit AND grappled.

Channelling again, assuming I am able to "present my holy symbol." 5d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 2, 1, 4) = 18 save is wil dc 18.

If not, I try to break out of the grapple.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26+ higher of 2d62d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6 action point used.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

Note to self: give back either a channel or an ap, depending on what was allowed.....

You can use a light weapon while grappled so I see no reason why you can't use a holy symbol unless someone is trying specifically to stop you - which they aren't right now.

Will saves:
E1 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
E2 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
E3 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Once more Rodergo call on the Flame to smite the abominations.

My thoughts exactly. Thanks, Ez.

For the record, if you get a chance to see the Grand Canyon (the one in Arizona in case there's confusion), do not hesitate to do so. We hiked "Rim to Rim," going from North to South, but even just standing on the rim or walking a short distance down the path might just be a transformative experience. It was amazing and I can't wait to return to do it again.

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior 6 / War Mind 5

The warrior once again brings his weapon to bear, attempting to slice the foul creature in twain.

vital strike: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33

"Huzzzah!!!"

OK, you are grappled which means you cannot use a two handed weapon. You'll have to reconsider your action.

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior 6 / War Mind 5

could i take that roll as a grapple escape? the result would be two lower (since the weapon wouldn't be used to escape)

Yes, you can do that.

then attempt to do that i shall

Nev's roll is 15 + 14 + 1 (for Haste) CMB = 30.

Nevharath manages to struggle free for the ettercaps' claws.

5' step to M25. All attacks go on Ettercap 5. I'm using Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Manyshot and Clustered Shots. If it falls, spillover goes against Ettercap 1, then, if applicable, Ettercap 3.

Ettercaps!

Janosz takes down two more of the ettercaps.

E1 and E5 down.

Tiny spider crawl out of the bodies of the ettercaps holding Rodergo and Gelb. They skitter across skin and under armour, biting as they go.

Two melee touch attacks against Rod from E2 and E3, one against Gelb from E4. On a successful hit, you are paralysed for 1d4 minutes by spider venom, DC 21 Fort save to negate.
E2 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 v Touch AC
E3 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 v Touch AC
E4 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 v Touch AC

Janosz Frogshanks wrote:

Yea...kinda wondering about that.

If Gelb is free and next to Janosz, he'll use his wand against E4.

Standard: activate wand of magic missiles (9th) at E4.
Damage: 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 3, 4) + 5 = 19.
Move: nil.

Otherwise...

Fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16.

Er, yes, he did, spotted my deliberate error there. Hastily rewinds....

OK, maybe not that hasty... I've put Gelb in M25 since Janosz inconveniently stepped into N25. The net effect is probably the same.

E4 will instead make a full attack on Gelb. That's two slams. You might end up grabbed, which may affect your subsequent action.
Slam 1 14+15=29 to hit, damage 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (8, 1) + 5 = 14 (using the roll from E4 above
Slam 2 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28 to hit, damage 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 3) + 5 = 10
If either of those hit, you may be grabbed 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (12) + 19 = 31 v your CMD

Map updated.

Gelb again.

"Listen," Gelb quips at his grabby companion. "I like you too but not in the same way."

Gelb is grappled.
Standard Action: Escape Artist skill to escape grapple.
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (5) + 24 = 29 vs. ettercap's CMD.
Move Action: if he escapes, Gelb will take a 5' step to N24.

This time, Gelb fails to elude the gripping claws of the ettercap.

Ez.

Someone might need to take Ez's turn - Ithers seems to be struggling.

Ezreal moves to N8 before zapping Ettercap 3 with his Storm bolt ability. Damage 6d6=20 electricity, Reflex save 24 for half.

Also, Ezreal cast Summon monster VI last turn, and the monster appears and can act now. Any suggestions? I lean towards a dire bear, but it is entirely possible Ez had something else in mind.

Are there any options thematically appropriate for a webby area like this? Fliers probably won't work.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

Would air elemental(s) give a darn about webbing?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hard to see it getting stuck to stuff.

Don't agonise on this - please make a decision.

HPs: 96 / 96, APs: 11/8 Effects: Karnnathi Wizard (Universalist) 12 / Cataclysm Mage 1

Actually I was agonizing on it myself. Originally I was imagining a huge air elemental in whirlwind form could just rip that webbing to shreds but then maybe it is super industrial strength webbing...
Also it would be really embarrassing to have an air elemental stuck in a spider web.
Let me think on it for a few minutes and I'll go ahead or revise.

HPs: 96 / 96, APs: 11/8 Effects: Karnnathi Wizard (Universalist) 12 / Cataclysm Mage 1

At the end of his chant a vortex opens midair and a torrent of black smoke pours through it spiraling downward over the ettercaps, Rodergo and Gil. Once it fully enters Eberron the gate closes behind it and the form resolves into an impossibly long flying snake trailing off into wisps of smoke and crackling with lightning. The thing rumbles with thunder and begins bombarding the ettercaps with fist sized balls of hail.

Ezreal moves in to get an open angle and fries the same one with an electrical blast.

Okay- Air Elemental it is.
LMN/10-12, 10' elevation above the bridge.
Both attacks on Ettercap 3

Slam: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12
Slam: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9

I'm fine with Vatts placement and stormbolt rolls up above so we can roll with that.

The elemental is the bordered square over Rod, Gil, Nev and the two ettercaps.

E3 save 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

The ettercap is buffeted but manages to stay upright.

Not sure about what Gil's situation is - the elemental has pretty much materialised where she is, albeit that she is invisible so no one could tell. I'll assume the elemental shoves her out of its space and will replace her accordingly.

1d16 ⇒ 9 - she's in M13.

Now freed from the tyranny of E1, Nevharath takes a step to his right (M12) and, using his momentum, swinging his greatsword in a wide arc to slash the remaining two. Stopping his blade on the backswing and bringing it to bear again, the skilled meditant attempts to kill the abominations.
