I think the whole thing with the Lampad is is their titular Lamp (their name actually does come from the Greek for torch), they can innately cast Light to guide the way underground, while a Mountain Nymph wouldn't have the same flavor. I think its important to think of them less as associated with specific Elements -- that's what the geniekin are for -- and more that they are bound to specific environments or natural features.

Point is that we should get all Nymph variations as heritages, including wind.
What semi-permanent natural feature would you tie a nymph to for "wind"? Wind doesn't really fit in with trees, caves, or bodies of water because it's more of an event than a fixture. I think "natural wind tunnel" is too specific to get a heritage.

A cloud?
A thunderhead?A permanent eye of the storm?

They're fun ideas but none of those are perminant or common enough to warrant a playable heritage. Cloud, perhaps, but even then we're talking about things like trees, rivers, caverns. Permiant features of a landscape that are always going to be there unless forcefully removed or eroded over a massive timescale.
Your best bet would be something like permafrost or a snowdrift on a mountain but even then I'm not sure those are close enough to air or on theme enough.

Cloud nymphs (Nephelae) are a thing in Greek mythology though...
Also, Pathfinder already has nymphs of sunsets (Hesperids) & seasons (Hora), and neither of those represent permanent landscape features...
(They do represent natural periods of time or natural phenomena, so a nymph representing storms/hurricanes/blizzards/etc. could fit...)

I know Hesperids are tied to "a place where the sunset is especially beautiful". I guess my difficulty is meshing Pathfinder's interpretation of nymphs with something like clouds- but I guess you can have places like the windward side of a mountain where clouds naturally form.

In fairness they'll need to break away from the locale-centric nature of Nymphs to have them as a player-character option, anyway. Hard to go adventuring if you're intrinsically bound to a specific location, after all.

Agreed, to be adventurers you can't be bound to a location.
However, I think this provides an opportunity to narratively describe why Nymph PCs don't have all their Nymph power, because they lost it in order to overcome their being bound to a specific place.

Sounds similar to what happens to PC Sprites and Dragonets, so there's precedent.

Yeah my assumption was that there would be some flavor text that you were specifically playing an "unbound" Nymph or something, to explain why you're not actively getting Drained every day you spend away from a particular pond (maybe they'll have a default Con penalty?)
In that sense they could easily introduce air/cloud nymphs living in little cloud-top communities -- maybe that's what that woman sharing a drink with the Satyr on the cover is -- and you'd just be one who's fallen to earth.

Ha! Serves me right for saying something before I checked. Feel free to chuck tomatoes

While fey are predominantly found on Golarion more oft than other planes due to their metaphysical proximity, it wouldn't surprise me if nymphs of typical elemental features were found around their respective Elemental Plane, either. A cloud nymph living in one of the castles in the Plane of Air sounds like a perfect match!

Maybe it's a new species of Nymphs that doesn't have the location dependent weakness? That species still has access to regular nymph heritages, but these are not as dominant as their parents'.
If anything, new magical aura or "simple biological evolution" eventually made nymphs free of their areas and allow them to travel the world, albeit they have weaker ties to nature. One HUGE feature is that nymphs... will likely come in more than just female, like changelings got. That alone is a big change.
We got the Planes of Metal and Wood returning, so it's possible that the First World got "something new"... or that its ties faded...

Us ground-bound creatures don't think about it much, but there's winds on Earth as permanent as rivers - the trade winds and the polar vortex, for example. El Niño should be a suitable binding for a nymph, surely?
And if we want a Golarion-based example, you can't get much more permanent than the Eye of Abendego. It's been raging for, what, a couple hundred years now?
(Incidentally, I really hope we get nymphs tied to the Eye as monsters if not ancestry options; that'd be real cool.)
| JiCi |
I hope the nymphs have (the option to get) the melee and ranged unarmed attacks their NPC versions have.
Like Sprite's Spark?

Yeah, or like Kitsune having claw and fire attacks. So that a summer Hora PC can have the solar blade and solar ray attacks, or a lampad could have a rock fist and light wisp, that kind of thing.

Bit of a necro, but the store page just got updated! The sketch edition art is actually up, rather than a blank cover, as are sample pages. Table of contents, a fairytale that seems to be introducing a faction, and the intoductory page of the bestiary, which nearly doubles my excitement for this title by including something I wish more of these books had: A sidebar listing the cultural inspirations for the monsters!! It's my favorite thing in Book of the Dead, and it's here too! Also, it reveals we're getting Selkies, along with the Hobkinsville Goblins, puka, and the dang Green Knight! Much to be excited about!

Although, the adventuring in the first world section is only 4 pages :/ was hoping for a little more given that's going to probably just be spells and the bardic muse that I think I remember being mentioned.
Yeh, definitely feels more like a GM-centric resource given the emphasis on setting info and a pretty big chunk of space dedicated to creature entries. I was also hoping for maybe a bit more dedication to some bizarre Fey magic than just a couple of pages. Though, in fairness, there's a decent chunk of ancestries too.
I'm really eager to get into the section on the Eldest and see them fleshed out more! Especially Shyka, easily my favorite among them. I'm hoping that, assuming they have "deity" entries, their Boons and Curses are really off the wall!
ADDENDUM: That said, they might have some mechanical content scattered throughout the different sections, too, much like how Dark Archive had a few things in pretty much each chapter (though that was more of a rule book and not as setting-focused as this seems to be)

I'm super looking forward to this section as well. IIRC none of the deities in any other themed books have had boons and curses appended, but let's cross our fingers and hope!

Oh I'm all for a GM focused book after impossible magic was so light on that stuff, but you always want what you don't have, you know?

Oh, I really wouldn't expect those to go there. It's about adventuring in the First World, which really does need about four pages talking about how to do that. The inconsistent flow of time, the ability to shape reality through will, the difficulty in getting there, etc.
One of the previews was a story about the two types of trickster fey- the harmless ones and the malicious ones. I think it makes more sense to have the trickster fey section feature the trickster muse.

Yeah, it'd be great if we didn't have an insane and chaotic list of tariffs kneecapping publishers on top of inflation and a cost of living crisis Paizo's workers aren't exempt from, but what can you do. Although I will point out that the pocket edition is, in fact, 30 dollars (and is what I'm planning on getting myself.)

From the looks of it the bestiary section will include remasters of some fey, hopefully the ratio isn't too bad. And if it is well at least I get to be excited for a theoretical Monster Core 3.
Considering their page count, my guess is that each of the Yestereve Revels will include some player content, similar to the schools in Rival Academies. I already get annoyed at the stories and lore in rulebooks, if a full quarter of this book was Golarian lore I'd be mad.
| ornathopter |
We know that somewhere in there there'll be a new Bard muse and archetypes, so Rival Academies style seems like a very safe guess. Personally I'm most interested in the nymphs - I like nature spirits, I'd like to play a lampad or a hesperid, Battlezoo's version was a letdown, and I'd like it a lot if Starfinder could build on this version or import it to have stellar/meteor/black hole nymph PCs.

It definitely feels like, if ANY of the "deity" expansions should include new deific Boons and Curses, it would be those of the Fey, right?
