What Is Paizo's Most Frequently Played Pathfinder Adventure?

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

I'm wondering what Pathfinder's equivalent to Keep on the Borderlands might be - Paizo's scenario that has been played by the most people over the years.

I assume that it's either Burnt Offerings, Crypt of the Everflame, a Society scenario, or The Fall of Plaguestone, but what was your first? Which ones do you hear about the most?

(For the record, mine was The Wormwood Mutiny, which I ran after years of playing in someone's homebrew sandbox.)

While it's certainly a stab in the dark, I imagine that the Rise of the Runelords AP has gotten the most play (which would then put Burnt Offerings up there as the top book). I think that I've run it about four times in just PF1 play alone, and I don't think that I represent some of the more extreme numbers in that regard.

I want to throw an honorary "just maybe" to Dragon's Demand because it feels like such a classic fantasy adventure to introduce to a group of players the first time, but likely didn't get near that level of play.

It seems like both Abominations Vaults and the 2e Beginner's Box made pretty big splashes - and the former has its 5e conversion coming soon, which'll expand the potential audience pretty dramatically.

I think Kingmaker, having the video game and crossing over from PF1 to both PF2 and 5e has to be pretty high up there. The very first PFS2 scenario might be up there too, just from convention play and online play by post.

IMHO Rise of the Runelords, Kingmaker, Curse of the Crimson Throne.

Is the 5e version still happening? WoTC has been kind of EVIL.

I don't have the data in front of me and even really using all the sources available it'd probably still be an incomplete picture, but I'd bet on Kingmaker as well. Any AP that hasn't made the jump from PF1 to PF2 (or 5E) probably can't qualify just because the PF1 audience was so much smaller. Kingmaker being available in PF1, PF2, and 5E while also having a CRPG conversion has an audience that's so much bigger than any other AP I don't think it's likely that even something like Rise of the Runelords could possibly compete.

Kingmaker is the only AP I've played in multiple times, and is one of the few I've heard friends of mine talking about playing in multiple times, so I'd bet Kingmaker as well. That's a biased and not helpful sample, but stack it atop Michael's arguments anyway.

I don't see why not. Whether WotC are playing nice or not, Paizo has still invested time and effort and money into producing that product. It's not like WotC can do much in any case. The adventure runs on their rules, but using Paizo's IP, so even if they wanted to stop Paizo from publishing it there wouldn't be much they could do about it.

From Paizo's point of view there are just way more 5E players than PF2E ones, so why not tap into that audience? More people get to play a cool adventure, and it's always possible some people will like it so much they'll check PF2E out and become future customers.

Its listed as a preorder for May. We find that our adventures are able to cross the gap of game systems well. People are comfortable with the ruleset they play in and thats entirely ok. If we can offer someone the chance to play in Golarion in 5e, maybe their next campaign they tryy Kingmaker. And after that? Who knows.
