Help me build an unexpected Kobold

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hello everyone,

I know this thread will draw alot of hate but please and people telling me to avoid this idea but i love kobolds.. i really love them and i'd want to try to purse what i consider fun.

Main goal here is to make something totally goofy to make other players laugh without ruining or trolling the mood.

Here some concept that i'd like to bring to the table but don't have the experience or the knowledge to do so.

---IM AWARE OF THE MALUS TO STR, CON and SIZE---

-Brawler(not necessarly the class): a small kobold beast, that grapple, trip, rush/climb all over an opponent giving advantages for my allies. Im looking into be useful rather than do damage and be tanky

-Tank/Buffer: Alot of AC and resistance basically immortal, good buff for self and others, dmg is not a priority.

-------------------------------------

General concept is to be really tank and provide utility with moderate damage

Thank you guys

Tiny cheerleader: 1 level of standard bearer cavalier with whatever alternate banner best suits your party.

Follow up with longspear wielding bard. Level 5+ can be in battle herald.

Body guard and battlecry (feat) to further boost and shield your allies.

Starting from level 1?

No one expects…the kobold inquisition.

In all seriousness though, who would expect a staunchly religious inquisitor of Abadar, that is a kobold?

More rare is to see a paladin kobold of iomedae

The CM penalties for a small creature is going to work against all of those checks (and Trip poops out around 9th level along with monsters tending to be Large sized or bigger) so I'd try a different strategy.

Spellcasters(full or limited) are an option (Wizard, Bard, Oracle, etc) and small sized is an advantage. With this strategy Gravity Bow moves martial ranged damage up a size category if you pursue that option (Ranger, Zen Archer, Gunslinger). UncSummoner is an option as small doesn't effect your eidolon BUT you do split your MIBS(magic item body slots) with your eidolon. Alchemists tend to be self buffers then temp melee fighters, so it doesn't always work out and their BAB is not the best.

Mounted combat can overcome some size issues as your mount is bigger. So Cavalier, Paladin, Samurai, etc.

CHA based social classes aren't affected by size. So Bard and similar classes are a good choice.

UncRogue or a dip into Rogue is an option if you follow the trapmaking. As a PC time is more the burden as you have to set up a trap and then lure the foes into it, it usually doesn't work out unless the whole party is into it (just like party stealth checks).

Items that can save you thread

Since you are playing a Kobold you qualify for scaled disciple which allows you to take use Oracle for Dragon Disciple. The bonuses for Dragon Disciple cancel out the penalties of being a kobold. Oracle full 9th level caster with a medium BAB. The feat favored prestige class will allow you to take prestigious caster to regain the caster levels from taking Dragon Disciple.

Oracle of battle would allow you to take the revelations Maneuver Mastery, Weapon Mastery and Skill at Arms. It also gives Enlarge Person as a mystery spell allowing you to grow to medium size. You will also gain the ability to assume the form of a large dragon twice a day.

The build takes a while to come online but once it does it looks like it should actually work fairly well.

Liberty's Edge

My group had a very efficient kobold alchemist. He was a good support character and the bombs don't care about the thrower size.

If you're still pursuing this, it sounds great! Since you aren't as concerned with damage output, the small size isn't a huge detriment. There are plenty of traits and feats that can let you overcome the CMD/B penalties. My husband plays a kobold shifter that does just fine. Natural attacks with any flurry type fighter can be fun, so don't overlook the race unique feats that can get you claws, a bite, or even a breath weapon. Also, kobold tail weapons are a thing, and at least one is designed for combat maneuvers.
