I'm a bit unclear on the exact meaning of the wording for Gate Junctions at the end of the bullet list.
"You can select each gate junction only once, unless noted otherwise, but you can have the same type of junction for multiple elements."
So does this mean that if you're going single element, you're going to be more limited than a multi element kineticist? Or does this mean that you cannot, for example, increase the persistent damage from the Fire Gate Junction critical blast? I can understand not being able to take each part of the gate junctions multiple times, but if it means you can only choose each elements junctions once, then that seems a bit harsh to someone that wants to focus on a single element and fully master it rather than dabble in everything.

Yeah, committing to a single element completely means you just get the impulse junction to start, and add the other four junctions in whatever order you like at 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th.
Meanwhile if you want 3 elements, you could start dual gate, grab the third at 5, then use your 9th, 13th, and 17th junctions to grab the aura junction for each element.

so maybe i still dont understand. i want to make an air/metal kineticist. so at lvl5 i expand the portal and (going with air) pick one of the 4 gate junctions or air impulse junction. then at lvl9 i do the same for metal. does that mean i cant pick anything else and thats when i get extra impulses based on what the last sentence says?

At level 5 you would pick one of the air or metal junctions. At level 9 you would pick one you don't already have from that list if you did Expand the Portal again. And just keep taking ones you don't have each time you Expand the Portal. You don't have to pick from either element in particular at each selection, you can just take all the air ones or all the metal ones first if you wanted.

So if you start out with air and metal at level 1, and you refuse to open any other elements, then you have ten possible junctions available to you - the impulse, aura, skill, resist, and critical junctions for air and metal. Over the course of your career (one each at 5, 9, 13, and 17), you'll be able to pick up any four of those ten in any order.
