Does anyone have any class suggestions for a Kitsune Trickster?

Advice

So, I had this idea of a Kitsune Trickster type, Possibly utilising Enchantment and Illusion magic, Preferably with a decent charisma.. And I dont know what class to make it so I was curious if anyone had any suggestions?

Is Mesmerist good? Or would a Wizard or Sorcerer work better for Illusion and Enchantment casting? Is there any other classes that could work out well? Dont have to use enchantment and illusion magic, Thats just the first thing that popped into my mind when I thought of an kitsune trickster...

Mayhaps a Vivisectionist Alchemist, Unchained Rogue or Investigator..?

Any suggestions would be welcome!

If you want to specialize in enchantments nothing beats a fey bloodline Kitsune sorcerer. Their favored class bonus is + ¼ to the DC of enchantment spells. This allows you to really crank up the DC on all enchantment spells, especially compulsions. The only problem with this is that all your trickery is going to be mostly magical. Sorcerers get few skill points, and your favored class bonus is being used for something else.

Bard would give you more of a skill-based trickster. The bard favored class bonus can boost up your ability to lie and gather information If you max out bluff you end up getting a +1.5 bonus per level. At higher level that be pretty high. Bards get a lot of enchantment and illusion spells so this fits into what you are looking for.

Don’t bother with Wizard. The sorcerers favored class bonus makes the Kitsune the stronger choice by far.

The alternative racial trait keen would allow you to boot INT over CHA so an investigator could work fairly well. If you do that also swap out Kitsune Magic for something else. I would probably also do this for a unchained rogue to get even more skills.

If it were my character, I would probably go with the sorcerer with a bard as a close second.

Thank you! Had not thought of Bard, Bard could work well.. Never played a bard before.. Hmm..

My personal fave is a kitsune sorcerer (nine-tailed heir) taking the nine-tailed scion race trait. You could have all 9 tails (and their associated SLAs) by level 7; level 9 if you don't use your fcb for +1/6th of a magical tail feat.

If you go with bard, consider an archeologist bard. They trade away performances for a luck bonus. They don’t enhance the rest of the party like a normal bard but can boost their own abilities very well. They also get some rogue talents and can deal with traps. They don’t get disable device as a class skill, so you usually need the trait criminal for them. The other trait is fates favored to boost their luck bonus. You will also want to pick up lingering performance to make your luck bonus last longer.

There are several good choices and it depends on the campaign(GM, setting, style of play, variance in challenges) that you are in, the allowed source material, and other party members (as many people want to cover most abilities across the group).
The Enchantment and Illusion schools are affected by how the GM rules interactions which lead to saves and ending of the spell effect. It's something to consider.

Race: Kitsune. -2 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Cha|Int. The -2 Str can be offset by starting with a 12 or 14 in Str.

Bard, Rogue/UncRogue, Sorceror/Wizard, Occultist, Swashbuckler, Investigator, (maybe)Shaman/Oracle/Cleric with Chaos(& Whimsey), Charm, Luck, Trickery domains and Intrigue, Whimsey mysteries.
Magical Tail feat the feat is designed to be taken 8 times(!), note that 1/6th of a feat does nothing so you would trade 18 HPs for 3 feats over 18 levels.

Your class choices are somewhat constrained by your starting points to buy ability scores. If you are rolling dice in order then the dice will tell you which way to go. Multi Ability score classes require a couple of decent rolls/scores.

I favor wizards so an Illusionist would be 'trickier' than an Enchanter.

Kitsune oracles can be amazing, but even using the heavens mystery there is not a lot of “trickster” in it.

It depends on what specific abilities you want out of a "trickster."

Bard, as mentioned, can fill the "trickster" role fairly well. Archetypes such as brazen deceiver, fey prankster, or wit may suit how you want the character to realize the "trickster" concept.

Druid, specifically feyspeaker, can also work as "trickster:" Cha-based casting (instead of Wis), druid spell list (which can be expanded on with the Fey Spell Lore feat), 6+ Int mod skill ranks and social skills, Wild Mischief (for pranks involving animals), and wild shape.

Investigator can fill the "trickster" role as you describe with the questioner archetype. Psychic detective can also work, although the psychic spellcasting is Int-based.

Mesmerist is possibly a better "trickster" than a bard, with the class abilities and spell list more focused on debuffs and status effects than on buffs and lore. Fey trickster, vexing daredevil (for a fencer-type "trickster"), or vexing trickster might be suitable.

Summoner with the fey caller archetype might work, although the summoner spell list doesn't have as many Enchantment or Illusion spells.

Vigilante with the magical child archetype is also a possibility, although it uses the summoner spell list (short on Enchantment and Illusion).

Witch, specifically the seducer archetype (Cha-based casting and hexes), can do quite well as a "trickster."
