Etch property runes.
So in a game using ABP, was someone expecting you to pay 35 GP for Handwraps which have no benefits just so that you have a piece of cloth to etch property runes on?
Yeah that doesn't make any sense. I'm not sure I would have them cost nothing - though that is an option too. I would probably have them cost 1 SP: about the same as basic level 0 weapons like a Dagger.

But 0 gp IS the price of a basic 0 level weapons, the club, sling or staff. Are "embroidered strips of cloth" more costly than "a leather cup attached to a pair of straps"? It seems a bit persnickety, IMO, not to just handwave the whole cost as there isn't much meaning in making it a token cost.

I haven’t seen anywhere a price for a strip of embroidered cloth. I am pretty sure they are just placeholders for runes. The only thing someone buys are the runes (and maybe installation). If the player wanted Flaming on their handwraps using ABP, it would cost 500 gold plus maybe a 10% installation fee if the rune was bought separately.

Handwraps are free in the same sense that the socks your character is wearing were free, as is the change of socks in your pack. There's a lot of things abstracted by the system that your character just has because it doesn't make sense for your character to not have them.
We could have a game where you have to price out the cost of laces separate from the cost of boots, we just don't. A character who wants runes on their handwraps has access to handwraps because they own clothes.
