I have a player who really wants to play a Dragon Disciple but is put off by the fact that he will only be able to use his claws a few rounds per day.
Would adding the DDs level to the claws' rounds/day, and making it unlimitted use as a lvl 10 capstone be over the top?
I don't think its game breaking. I am surprised its not permanent anyway.

Personally, I didnt feel like the claws from the BETA were terrible (1d6 for medium, eventually getting bumped up to 1d8, and then doing an additional 1d6 energy damage by the time all is said and done, permanent).
Id consider keeping it that way or letting them take a feat to improve their claws. Its nice in the beginning since you have 2 primary natural attacks, but it wasn't game breaking by any stretch.

Considering the power of most (not all) sorcerer and wizard 1st level abilities, I think they should either be at will or become so at, say, a higher level or if you take a feat.
I'd give him the claws as an at-will as soon as his bloodline level hits 8 or thereabout. Actually, I'd remove the draconic form abilities (a bloodline spell for draconic sorcerers) and actualy make him a half-dragon at lvl 10.
Edit: oh boy, did I necro this thread. Still, what do people think of the above change?

while it makes sense that you should be able to i agree. So i let a player do it but i made him work for it. I told him that he needed to make an amulet that allowed him to use his claw/wing abilities an at will thing and the amulet also granted an extra use of of your breathe weapon and dragon shape. But the tricky part was the material that he couldn't buy. a tooth from an adult dragon of the same color. Made for an interesting story and encounter. He did it. But like i said...i made him work for it.

Given that the claw ability was the only 1st level ability sorcerors get that isnt like what they already do (save effect, or a ranged/melee touch) with spells, we houserulled claws as unlimited for a sorc in the game I played one. It wasnt outrageous because of the BAB hit, and the fact that you wont ever extend past 2 attacks(and then 3 in dragon disciple with bite). It also lets a player go straight sorceror if they want into dragon disciple, reducing the loss of caster level and bloodline abilities that normally come from having to multiclass to get some kind of ability with weapons.

What about having them take a trait? Such as making a trait for someone with a Dragon in their family tree, that manifest through the PC's Bloodline. Here's my idea: A Dragon blood trait that allows a PC to grow d4 claws and if they have the draconic bloodline they can use them at will and gain a step in die code. It also works with other classes that gain some type of claws or similar ability.

It really IS up to you as a GM. By now you should have seen the player in action with the claws. The claws do get more powerful with level, and keep in mind that the character DOES have other things going for him, spells, eventual dragonshape, etc.
With that in mind, if you can tolerate the effect of the boost, it's totally your call.
What you can do as a compromise alternative is increase the number of the available usage by say 50 percent and see where that takes you.
