Half-Elf Slayer

Advice

Ok, now that I've finished picking out the classes for my next group of characters, I think it's time to finish off the CURRENT group of characters. The ones left are the elf arcanist and half-elf slayer.

I'll do the Slayer first. I think I'll switch Multitalented with Blended View to get Darkvision. I don't think I'm going to do any multiclassing here so there's no need for 2 favored classes. I also think I might change out Adaptability for Weapon Familiarity and get proficiency with an Elven Branch Spear.

For stats, putting the +2 into Str, 20 points can get 16 Str, 13 Dex, 14 Con, 12 Int, 14 Wis, and 10 Cha.

I know I want to grab Trapfinding for the first slayer talent. After that, I'm not sure what to take. Combat Reflexes is a must, of course.

Anyone have any thoughts on other talents and feats?

If you are open minded about his religion. Then taking the obedience for imot(N alignment) will give you +4 to spot portents and traps and the ability to disable magic traps. And boons later on. On the long run its less then getting plus half your level to find and disable. But skills can be easy to max out. Boons are rare and talents more so.
Also untill you get to level 8 this one pack a bigger bonus to find the traps. And once found you dont always need to disable.

Ok, I'm coming back to this and looking at the list of Slayer talents, and there aren't that many that seem all that great. I don't really need more of them for a reach build. I decided to look at other classes and I think I'm going to go with Investigator. It has far more talents that look good.

don't forget you can take some rogue talents for slayer talents and the ranger combat style feats as well.

True, but I'm not real crazy about the ranger feats for this character and the investigator can get far more rogue talents.

There is the matter of proficiency with the Elven Branch Spear though. Hm.....

Oh wait, I can just multiclass. 2 levels of Slayer, grabbing the Combat Trick Rogue talent, then go into Investigator which will give me Trapfinding. That works perfectly.

Wait again, the Ancestral Arms racial trait. I'll just take that instead of Weapon Familiarity and don't have to use Slayer at all.

What type of Investigator are you looking at? Investigator is solid, and you can get Quick Study before a Slayer gets Studied Target as a swift action.

For a reach build, I think the Combat Reflexes/Bodyguard combination could go well with the Effortless Aid Investigator Talent... especially if you invest literally anything into jacking up that Aid Another bonus.

Sadly, Investigators cannot take the Spell Knowledge Alchemist Discovery to gain access to Arcane Strike/Gloves of Arcane Striking. Not that it matters, but Inspired-Internal Alchemists can take Investigator Talents, and thus can have both Effortless Aid and Arcane Strike/Gloves of Arcane Striking.

I was mostly thinking skill monkey that can find traps while stopping foes from getting too close with reach. Only reason I'm not going full dex is that the only way to get dex to damage with a branch spear is the Agile quality.

Personality wise, I was imagining him the type of person that doesn't like people near him and will bonk people yelling "Too close!"

Here are some thoughts:
1. Investigators are fun, you should have a blast!
2. Strength investigators are great with a reach build (plus you save a feat by not needing weapon finesse and money by not needing agile).
3. Do you have your hart set on the elven branch spear? I think the regular old long spear has the same stats and can get the inspired weapon enhancement (I don’t think you can do that with the branched spear). Plus, you get to keep skill focus and put it into perception or take dual minded which is nice too.
4. I like the empiricist archetype as you get to use intelligence for almost everything. My favorite is int to perception plus skill focus plus free inspiration. Very perceptive!
5. For an Empiricist my stats would look like this 16, 14, 12, 15, 10, 7 with +2 to str and all level ups to int and the student of philosophy trait (no more need for charisma).
6. Half elf and elf favorite class bonus are great!
7. Talents I like; quick study is a must, sickening offensive is great (no save!) and there is plenty of room for others1
8. I like to take power attack at 3rd level (you can take furious focus later if you are worried about the penalties but with studied combat you shouldn’t need it). 1st level is combat reflexes. At third level you hit for 1d8+6(str)+3(power attack) not to shabby.
9. With a reach build long arm is a great extract.
10. Most important this is a rpg and if anything I’ve suggested doesn’t fit with your idea and vision of your pc feel free to ignore it an have fun!

Hm, that sounds pretty good. I am pretty set on the branch spear though. I like getting my characters unique weapons from the rest of my characters when I can. And I don't think I'm ever going to be making another build that's similar to this one.

Have you considered Elven Battle Style or Kirin Style for this build to capitalize of your most-probably-fabulous Intelligence?

You may actually be able to bypass Kirin Style's stupid action economy mixing it in with your normal Investigator stuffs... Elven Battle Focus probably makes more sense, overall, though.

Elven Battle Training looks great. Not entirely sure about the Elven style feats though. They require Weapon Finesse, which is a feat I don't need, and the Weapon Familiarity racial trait, which means I won't have proficiency with the branch spear without dipping or taking a feat.

Here are some extracts I like;
1st Level: anticipate peril, enlarge person, long arm, shield
2nd Level: alchemical allocation, alter self, barkskin, invisibility, resist energy, see invisibility
3rd Level: amplify elixir, clay skin, displacement, fiendish wrath, fly, haste, heroism, infuse self, thorn body
4th Level: caustic blood, echolocation, fluid form, freedom of movement, greater invisibility, stoneskin
5th Level: defensive grace, delayed consumption, resurgent transformation, spell resistance
6th Level: heal, legendary proportions, statue, true seeing, walk through space
