The various class kits from Ultimate Equipment were some of my favorite parts of that book, because it made covering the adventuring basics incredibly easy to do. I thought I might not be the only one, so I went ahead and did some conversion, adapting the contents of the UE kits to their PF2 counterparts where possible, then adding up the cost and Bulk. (Unlike the UE versions, there's no "package deal" discount.) If anyone's interested, here's the list:

Adventurer’s Kit
a backpack (1 sp, -B), a bedroll (1 cp, LB), a belt pouch (4 cp, -B), cookware (10 sp, 2B), a flint and steel (5 cp, -B), hemp rope (1 sp, 1B), rations (5 days; 25 cp, 5LB), torches (10; 1 cp, LB), and a waterskin (5 cp, LB). Total: 16 sp; 3.6 Bulk

Thanks. Something like this should be in the core book to help speed up character creation.

Heh, yeah, my suspicions were correct -- the average kit, not even including things like a tent, is probably too much bulk for the average adventurer when combined with their armor and weapon and any adventuring necessities. Definitely going to want pack mules when on the trail.

For most of the kits, the cookware is the single largest piece at 2 Bulk, and you probably only need one of those per party. Letting your group's fighter/barbarian/paladin/pack mule carry it will probably help out quite a lot.

So, your first action in combat is taking off your backpack and dropping it?

Really, stowing 4 Bulk of stuff in a Backpack and then carrying that heavy pack around when you aren't very fit and strong will really slow you down. This is well represented by being encumbered(Though I wish it was only a 5' speed penalty). With that big heavy pack, almost every character benefits from dropping that extra weight at the first sign of combat.

What every character can do it carry around their required adventuring gear ie bedroll, rations, waterskin, flint, weapons, and armor without issue. Its only when the characters is trying to carry around a bunch more stuff that their pack will be heavy enough that they are encumbered.

Characters have their Dungeon/Danger kit which they'd be smart to guarantee they aren't encumbered, and they'd have their exploration kit which might make them encumbered. Even a lot of encumbered characters can walk 12 miles per day. This is a reason people buy a horse and have it carry all of the bulky things they don't want in their personal pack.

I am ok with my character going, "Crap! Ambush. Umm... I drop my pack, I draw my weapon. Then I'll... move between the ambusher and the wizard." or "I drop my pack. I draw my shortbow. I attack the first enemy."

It "feels" right to me. And with the three action system, it isn't that big of a penalty. But it "feels" real and makes something like Heft Hauler reasonable. And it makes dumping Str a bit more painful for Wizards/Sorcerers. It also gives a slight action economy advantage to players to plan their pack weights out or who make sure the character adventures unencumbered. PCs just don't always have the effective infinite charcter carrying capacity we've seen when DMs handwave weight etc. Bulk is easier to work with and better illustrates actually carrying things. I'm ok with it.

Oh, and to the OP. Thanks for this!

Missed Healer's kit for the Cleric/Paladin kit. And it's weird that you included both a religious text and a holy symbol in the kit. They seem like they serve the same purpose and it's just fluff on which one you use.

These are not my own creation. I merely adapted the kits that were printed in Ultimate Equipment for the new edition, with the sole exception of adding a bunch of extra picks for the rogue kit. The PF1 cleric and paladin's kits did not include healer's tools, and they did include both the religious text and the holy symbol.

That said, part of the reason I listed cost and Bulk for each item was so one could easily drop anything they didn't actually want.

Fair enough. And I do appreciate the work you put into putting the kits together.

I would still argue that Healer's kit belongs there now for Clerics/Paladins. Healer's tools in PF1 were only marginally useful - they had a limited use and only provided a +2 to heal. In PF2 if you want to help people overcome disease/poison/administer first aid at all then you need the Healer's kit. They are actually pretty essential now if you plan on being able to help people like that.

I did the adventures kit, basically the same, minus the cook ware. Which seems like a crazy high amount of bulk to me. A tin mess kit normally contains a saucepan, plate, and little pot and weighs like a pound. I added chalk too.

Am I the only one around here that thinks level 1 PCs should just start with one of these for free out the gate anyhow?

I REALLY never understood the need to punish players who forgot to buy a Dagger and Rope at every society game etc.

You are doing the work of the gods, this will make character creation go by so much faster

Every party should have a mule. It's the poor man's Bag of Holding.
One guy buys the mule, one the cookware, one the tent, and one the firestuff.
Then everyone shows up with a mule and the arguments begin.
That's how great stories start.

Shisumo - Since I run so many PF2 playtests I totally am stealing your class kits. I have, though, removed the cookware from each one (saving a whopping 2 bulk and lowering the costs by 10 sp) and reposted them in a google doc that can be found here.

I have been certain to credit you in the opening line. This is going to help my newer players make characters so much faster.

Couple Notes:
1. Adventurer's Kit should be 3.8 bulk not 3.6
2. Alchemist Kit should be 5.9 bulk not 5.7
3. Bard's Kit should be 4.9 bulk not 4.7
4. Paladin/Cleric's Kit should be 4.0 bulk.
5. Druid's Kit is 3.8 bulk not 3.6
6. Rogue's Kit is 4.0 bulk.
7. Wizard's Kit is 4.0 bulk.

Honestly, I have been doing the same for my own PCs as I use the list - much as I often did the same with the "iron pot" from PF1 that was the source of the cookware I took from the PF2 equipment list. I don't think each member of an adventuring party needs their own cooking pot, do they?

That was the hope!

And this the other reason why I posted the cost and Bulk info: because I know I am not immune to math errors. It looks like I shorted the adventurer's kit 2LB, and the error carried forward to the others as I modified it.
