[IC] Strength of Thousands, with caveats

Recruitment

I've seen some interest for this AP, and I need test players, so it seems like a win-win to run the AP in my system.

I can run this as a vc game on discord, but three catches,

1) I don't have money to buy the ap, so I'd need the group to pitch in for it.

2) I am looking to use my own mechanics, 3.5/pf1 gone in a different direction than pf2/5e. I want to test play it and this AP has the kind of downtime that would work well with reviewing and adjusting mechanics between segments without disrupting the narrative.

3) Scheduling is limited, right now that means weeknights starting around 23:00 central time in the USA.

(of course, while I'm offering what I'll do for free, if I got paid at least as much as much as I get from delivering uber [about $17-19/hour], then I'd be happy to run games instead of drive, which opens the scheduling possibilities dramatically. I'd also be willing to run whatever system the players want if I get paid. I'd be surprised if anyone would go for that though, but I figured I should at least give the option. Can't get a yes if one doesn't ask.)

Optional, I have a uniquely different setting that this AP would fit well with, if anyone is interested in exploring that.

Details:
System - Built on the 3.x ogl,
-classes are now feat trees,
-most checks that weren't skills such as attack rolls, combat maneuvers, and magic are now skills,
-character advancement is different giving many more levels amd versatility for a given amount of raw power growth (so thematically growing from classic lvl 1 ordinary person to demigod lvl 20 might take 100 lvls instead),
-and magic is reworked so that instead of being balanced by how often it can be used, instead magic can be used a lot more but is a skill check to cast and the numbers on magic are lower when compared to mundane alternatives (i.e. a fighter is supposed to easily outdamage a caster, but the caster can use various dmg types and doesn't require a weapon to do it.)
-actions are not resolved until everyone has declared their actions, cause everything that happens in a round is simultaneous, so here, that is better represented by the outcome of one player's action being uncertain when the next player decides their action, but this also allows more interesting things to occur on occasion, for example, if a bad guy is attack by two characters and the dmg kills it, then two attackers both got killing strikes either working together or just by accident striking different places at once overwhelming the enemy defenses, or other possibilities
-Dice, 3d6 except the dice are sized according to stats.
-Health, hp/injuries, similar to wounds/vitality except instead of being two pools of points, an injury is a specific and defined injury with side effects according to the injury, i.e. an injured leg might slow speed and jump and etc.

Hey, I'm wanting to play this and I have some boons to hand out. I'm still deciding who to give the Beast Taming Prodigy boons too (Pathfinder 1e boons). I won it at Gen-con and that is the one where the winner gets 5 copies, one for himself and 4 for the other players.
Anyone who helps donate to the DM make the game possible will get one of the boons, limit 4 remember. As well as the DM getting one of the four copies if he wants one.

DM, I won't be able to make every session, as retail makes my schedule variable and random, but I'll make what I can and would like PFS chronicle for it please.

About the boon: I have to pick one of the 5 animals listed on the boon and everyone gets the same animal. So if I pick Allosaurus, then everyone who gets the extra copy gets Allosaurus, so vote on which one you want and I'll tally the votes and pick that animal. I don't have an opinion of which animal I get, I'm not much of a Pathfinder 1e player society wise, I bought the boon as a way to bargain with people, since it is one that nets you 4 extra copies. Beast Taming Prodigy

Wow, that's awesome, thanks!

I don't mind doing chronicles for players, though I'll need to figure out how since I haven't done it before.

I only rarely play society games, so all your boons can go to the players.

I'm fine with a larger group though, 6-8 depending on interest and whether the players are comfortable with that size. If we get more players than boons, we'll figure out who gets them.

Don't worry about perfect attendance. Real life comes first. :)

We should advertise in Discord, get the roll20 link ready and we can do that.

Roll20?

I guess I might manage roll20, if it's on android.

Miniatures wasn't part of my original plan, but I can investigate the feasibility of roll20 on phones.

My discord server doesn't have anybody there yet. Did you have a good server for advertising games? The only servers I know of only allow advertising for games run on their public server and I prefer private servers for this kind of stuff.

Even if you decide to do it entirely in discord as a live game, still should be advertised there as well. Most people run maps in Roll20 and use the voice on Discord, which is what I though you were trying to do.

Please note people, don't feel like you have to pay, take it as a donation, as least post here if you are interested. He said he might be able to do it for free. Maybe it is the new rules you afraid of.

1. I don't know of a public discord where you can advertise for a game not on their specific server. Do you know of one?

2. I find it most interesting how you phrased the money issue. My offer is by default free, aside from getting me the AP or letting me borrow it, but money opens up the schedule for greater flexibility in meeting the needs of getting a group together. I find it interesting that you saw the free option as "I might do free."

3. The custom rules and the timeslot both are major killers of interest. That's why I thought I'd try enticing a few folks with an AP lots of people are looking to play. Seems like it isn't enough. Around here anyway.

Maybe the ones who don't get selected in the other Strength of Thousands will join this one? That GM is keeping recruitment open till Nov 7th, so it is a waiting game.

I just remembered I can advertise on rpol, so I did. Of course, the offsite gaming section isn't exactly brimming with activity.

I certainly do hope some folks will head this way if they don't get in.

In the meantime, any questions you'd like to know more about or discuss while we wait?

I'd ask for character ideas, but I kinda need to know if we are starting in golarion or not first, and that is largely a party choice.

There is one place you cannot advertise, specifically this channel of discord. Organized play channel
The reason being is that you are asking for a fee, if not at least a donation, and the rules state what you are running cannot ask for a fee of any kind, including third party fees and donations, and/or ways around it.

I get the distinct impression you believe I know what server that is on. But I do not know. I can't follow the link either as I'm on mobile so it doesn't open discord for some reason, just goes to a generic discord page.

I even tried pasting the link in discord and then going there, but nothing happens.

You make it sound like people gotta pay to play, but it's more like a free to play game with purchasable upgrades. :)

Ok, needing the module could be argued as a fee, but that could also just be loaned to me and isn't quite what people expect when they see "fee." I don't want to be misleading about that.

I find it unlikely anyone would even consider that option, but it would let them select pf2 or pf1 as a system, so a chance exists, just a really small one.

I see that some other recruitments are closed. Well, I'm still looking for players if you find this a good second choice.
