Help with a Tempest Oracle build for AoA AP

Advice

Dark Archive

Hi, folks!
I'm currently playing with a human (half-elf) tempest oracle in AoA. I'm a bit lost in how to make an effective build. I took the dragon scholar campaign background, thinking in make something linked to dragons, but I'm not certain if it was a good idea. The party already have a healer (a rogue/medic), so I'm think a better way to go is a kind of controller/blaster build. Can you help me with this? I'm oppened to suggestions about stats, talents, spells, skill feats, etc. The only thing I cannot change is the race and class/mystery.
Thank you!

Well, first thing first, there is not much way to specialize casters in PF2. You'll be first and foremost an Oracle. Tempest Oracle has nice blasting powers, so you'll be better at that than a random Oracle.
Also, having 2 combat healers is better than one. So take Heal even if you only use it for emergencies as it would be really sad to pass on one of the best spells of the divine list.

Other than that, basic advice like having 18 as starting Charisma. Don't neglect Wisdom as there's a very strong Focus spell at level 8 that is better if you have good will saves: Debilitating Dichotomy.

18 charisma start and enough dex to reach 18 in armor class will do for stats.

On feats divine access gives you a few more spells to play around with the mystery benefit outside of the focus spells, people usually pick Dagon or Hei Feng.

Debilitating Dichotomy is pretty strong.

Blood Vendetta and Roaring applause are great spells to pick as well.

What about the skills and skill feats?

Any archetype to suggest?

Posted this in the other thread, then I saw this. Oops.

gesalt touched on this but the initial Tempest focus spell Tempest Touch is neat. It has decent damage and a nice speed debuff and only one action but it's touch range. The Reach Spell feat will do a lot of work here and can benefit your other spells too.

As with all Oracles, make sure to peruse through your spell options with Divine Access. I know Tempest can get access to Slow, on of the best debuffs when heightened.

Tempest's second focus spell Thunderburst is an aoe option with your focus points. I'd check it out and it's obtainable at 6th level. If you invest in wisdom and like to live on the wild side, Debilitating Dichotomy is single target devastation at 8th level.

I always recommend the Blessed One archetype for Oracles just because it's a cheap choice to have the option to use your abundant focus points without advancing your curse. It's just one feat for lay on hands and you've got yourself another healing spell. Makes up for not having healing font. It'll save you some spell slots that you would've otherwise used for Heal so you'll have more to buff, debuff, blast or whatever else you can get with Divine Access.

For skills, Intimidation takes advantage of your high charisma. Demoralize everything and anything. Intimidating Glare and Battle Cry help you do it even better.

Maybe even Diplomacy for Bon Mot if you have space for it.

Reach spell also helps in using Lay on Hands from behind the front line.

You have a weakness to Electricity. I believe most effects that deal Electricity damage target Reflex saves.

So, I think anything that boosts your Reflex saves should be good. High DEX, Cannes Acumen / Perfection's Path, Quicksilver Mutagen ...

Any archetype that helps? Maybe Sorcerer dedication for some damage spells with Air/Water?

One radical thought I had was to ask your GM if you could take the Elementalist Archetype from Secrets of Magic. Now, rules as written, Oracles definitely don’t qualify since they are divine casters, and the archetype requires arcane or primal spellcasting as a prerequisite. The elemental spell list would also lock you out of the healing and restorative spells that are the hallmark of the divine tradition. I want to be clear that this would be asking your GM to bend the rules of the game.

This would, however, get you access to many air and water spells. And if your primary character concept is a weather caster, we’ll it would certainly be that.

Canny Acumen (Reflex) is a great investment on Oracles since they get to expert level 13, the latest out of all the classes.

Sorcerer dedication is probably your best bet at getting the new Air/Water spells from Secrets of Magic. There are actually quite a few physical damage Air spells now. Notable Water spells you can't currently get with Divine Access is Crashing Wave and Geyser.

With Divine Access, Kyrone pointed out Hei Feng. Notable for granting three useful spells: Gust of Wind, Hydraulic Torrent, and Chain Lightning

Hanspur is great if you're looking for control. You get: Hydraulic Push, Aqueous Orb, and Solid Fog

Matravash is the one that gives Slow. Unfortunately, the other two spells are very situational.

If you're not confined to the mystery's elemental theme, there are still a handful of decent offensive divine spells. Enervation offers great persistent damage that can inflict drained. Rouse Skeletons is a new spell that provides difficult terrain for battlefield control and sustained damage. Best part is that the area can be moved every round for maximum flexibility.
