Black Blade archetype. Magus is coming in Secrets of Magic, so it'd be the perfect time to remake one of their most popular archetypes as something anyone could take.
Disconnecting the black blade from the Magus chassis opens up a lot of concepts; plenty of characters that are largely normal other than their horrible evil weapon that tells them to commit crimes.

Bomber - basically herbalist/poisoner but for bombs.
Reloaded- the action fixers that the gunslinger introduces all in one archetype
Wandmage- some kind of wand specialist
Chiaroscuro- a spellcaster that manipulates light and dark spells
Silksworn caster
Gadgeteer- able to craft the gadgets mention in the GG playtest.

I'd like to have an archetype ( or class ) who entirely rely on the shifting rune. For example not being tied to the needed hands or the melee requirements, as well as some special attacks which would require a shift to gain momentum and strike hard ( or in a different way ).
Sounds like you want the Gloomblade Fighter back. I would agree. That was my favorite concept I never got the chance to play...

This one, please.

I want more archetypes that are specifically for casters! Maybe themed to the schools of magic, so that specialists wizards can specialise further, but keeping the option open for other classes too. I'm thinking Evoker, giving stuff like metamagic to shape the AoEs and your Evocation spells, a Conjurer to boost summoning, etc.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up for too many archetypes (or any) in secrets of magic as they aren't specifically mentioned. But guns and gears does say over a dozen new archetypes. My guesses - bomb creation, mutagen creation, gadget creation, gun focus, clockwork companion, constructed pugilist type, mutations, pilot, sleuth, spellslinger... That's all I can think of right now

Hope they do disconnect them. I would love to build a character wielding something similar to Nightblood (from the cosmere).
Not in secrets of magic but I would like to see eventually something similar to Eldritch Archer but for Crossbows and Guns.

Has it been stated anywhere the "class archetypes" are even going to be a thing at all? Personally I really don't like the idea of class archetypes, and think that if you want to accomplish something like that you can do it with class feats. Archetypes can have limitations like specific requirements, but I don't think they should control where you get those powers from.

There's rules for them in the CRB, and it's essentially confirmed that if we ever get Synthesist Summoner it will come as a class archetype. And class archetypes in general are useful for things that are only a little different from existing classes. Like, say you wanted to make a Scholar class, an intelligence based skill monkey that acts as a support by using Recall Knowledge to debuff enemies. You could make that it's own class... or, you could save a lot of book space and development time and make it an Investigator archetype that replaces Devise a Stratagem and Strategic Strike.
I think Class Archetypes will be used far less frequently in this edition, but they still have a place.

I'm hoping for either an archetype where you pick a school of spells and a tradition and get a progression that's a little better than multitasking into casters is.
There's already archetypes for a ton of things that's in martial class toolkits so it'd only figure to do the same to casters.
Alternatively archetypes like Evoker, Diviner,... that are a little more tailored would be great as well.
I know it is already covered by heritages but their feats all balanced on a different scale than class feats are and I'd love some more transformative archetypes like the Oozemorph, something like a vampire lord or werewolves.
Also allows for interesting story developments since it's something GMs can offer up to player characters throughout a game.
Instead of something that'd just be pickable at lvl 1.

So much this. "Hello, would you like to destroy some evil today?"
"Why yes I would, new talking sword best friend!"Also, as a note, Eldritch Archer works with crossbows out of the box. Guns, slings, and niche ranged weapons are left out in the cold though, unfortunately.

We have gone longer without any class archetypes than I would have expected. But Mark Seifter has already described the circumstance under which they would introduce one: whenever they have a class variant that requires removing something from the core class. I guess that the fact that they haven't had to do that yet shows how well they designed the CRB and APG base classes.

i'd love caster focused archetypes that help you specialise in an aspect of your spellcasting.
like a metamagic master (merge metamagics, faster metamagics, etc), a sustained master (ability to skip a turn without sustaining and not lose the spell, multiple sustains, etc), an area of affect master (shape areas, exlude targets, increase areas, etc) and etc.
some of those may overlap (like have the modifications as metamagics and lump them in the metamagic archetype) or they could go wider and etc.
the majority of caster archetypes are focusing on skills imo and not on the act of spellcasting, while on the other hand we have a ton of martial archetypes that modify your strikes or increase your arsenal.
so, as a caster, a lot of times you end up picking just "more spells" as archetypes.

there's always the alchemist that could do with some class archetypes... some simple examples:
limit the infused stuff to only be usable by you but increase your proficiencies to equal a martial.
or a healing focused archetype that dissalows alchemical bombs and poisons but massively increases your healing output, and etc.
That saids, i do expect (and hope to see) massive revisions/buffs/archetypes/items for the alchemist in the Gear/Inventor book and not on this one.

As far as speculation:
For Secrets of Magic
At some point we are going to see a synthesist, and iirc, Mark said he wanted to make it a class archetype
I hope to see Black Blade come back, and have it be class agnostic. While potent thematically with the magus, there's also plenty of stories about normal warriors with cursed weapons, a lords who's weapons grant great power to their bloodline, or maybe I just play too much fire emblem :p
I suspect elementalists and the like will be archetypes or class archetypes. I'm kind of excited because if it's like givingnthe wizard the primal list, I could totally play an FMA style "alchemist"
Spell school based archetypes would be cool
I hope to see a metamagic based archetype; I actually like 2e's take on archetypes, but the current selection, for the most part, is a little lacking. I'd like more choices like the druid's current spell or elemental summons, or the ifrit one that makes a field of smoldering fire. One of my favorite effects in 1e that could become a 2e metamagic feat is the arcanist's ability to make a line spell curve
For Guns and Gears:
I'd like to see a gadgeteer archetype that lets non inventors get gadgets, kinda like the snare master archetype.
I wouldn't be shocked to see a bomber archetype that functions like the poisoner or herbalist, but for bombs. There seems to be some desire to make grenade slinging gunslingers and honestly I'm here for it.
I hope to see alchemist class archetypes. I actually really enjoy playing the base alchemist, but G&G would be a great place to bring back popular alchemist playstyles, like the grenadier or jekyll and hyde style brutes.
Much like how we have all of the combat style archetypes, I suspect we'll see one for guns. I personally hope that this would be at least one archetype for pistols and one for 2 handed guns
Wishful thinking, because I really want alchemical ammunition, but an alchemical ammunition expert.

I'm hoping they lean far enough into the "Alchemical Ammunition" angle to create an archetype, an alchemist Research field, and a gunslinger class feat that is basically the Poisoner Dedication but for ammo.

I'd like to see the "trick ammo" angle for gunslingers be a subclass (like rackets/bloodlines/research fields/whatevers). There's cool stuff to do there, but it probably shouldn't be the centerpiece of the class.

I was wondering today what classes people would be hoping for after SoM and GnG came out and I realized that a weapon summoning archetype has more discussion than any actual class on the forums. Maybe it's a case of seeing what I want to see, but I dunno.
Gloomblade has been the most consistently asked for one I’ve seen.

Squiggit |

Weapon summoners are cool. I don't think 'summons weapon' is necessarily a full class in and of itself (but it could be part of a class like kinetic blade or gloomblade).
Maybe something like... an archetype feat that lets you summon a common simple martial weapon, gives you proficiency with that specific weapon... and then gives you some relatively basic activity you can use with it. First thing that comes to mind is some frequency limited ability that lets you summon the weapon and attack with it in the same action and provides some bonus to that attack, but idk.
If you're proficiency with all advanced weapons you can summon a common one of those instead.

Not new per se and probably not in secrets of magic but one thing I'd really like to see is old archetypes getting expanded. Some of the archetypes are really thin right now and barely have enough feats to let you exit them.
I'd also like to see alternative entry paths for certain archetypes too. It feels really bad when an archetype has some cool abilities you're interested in, but the entry feat is just a feat tax because you're already proficient or already have an animal companion or whatever.

Alternate entry paths would be pretty awesome. I have a buddy who wants to port over a 2H ranger from PF1E, but doesn't want to take the obviously helpful Mauler archetype because the dedication feat does nothing for rangers.
Similarly, I hope that some of the archetypes from AP volumes make their way into more mainstream releases, since I think that would be the most likely path to their being expanded, or possibly revised. Jalmeri Heaven Seeker feels a bit bad, given it feels a lot like a monk-focused archetype, but monks have to wait I believe two extra levels before entering it ... and I just really like Golem Grafter and want to see it get more stuff.
