This is a fun ability! I've been playing around with the ruler tool on Roll20, with varying configurations of enemies, obstacles, and environments, and it's simply crazy how versatile this ability makes lines!

I had skipped over Megavolt as a poor-man's lightning bolt, but you know, I could take something else until Gigavolt is available and then retrain...! Ricochet lightning just sounds like lots of fun.

Megavolt is a poor-man's lightning bolt... but it's a poor-man's lightning bolt essentially as a focus spell. On a martial class that doesn't get other AOE options with actual range.

It scales very well and grows to a strong range. 9d12 is still a pretty good AOE to have in your pocket in the endgame.

Good points, all. I was a little biased because my current character throws lightning bolts, so when I first saw it I was like, "yeah, done that". :-P

Mega/gigavolt are probably some of my favorite examples of unstable powers in the test, and I kinda hope to see other blasts.

I was really hoping to see an upgrade for explosion that gave it better damage scaling, like an extra d6/level or make it deal persistent fire damage, to keep it in line with megavolt power wise, and perhaps something to change it into a cone or something similar to how gigavolt lets you change the AoE.

Yes, I love these kinds of Unstable powers. I hope we see a lot more. Even things that aren't specifically damage, like haste through my power armor.

I also would love to see some Unstable abilities (or things that need you to be Overcharged?) that are also beyond just the invention. A time bomb that blinks someone out of existence for a round or two, or slows them!? A couple rods that allow me to dimension door between them? A handful of flying constructs that swarm out and act as a glitterdust?

Tons of possibilities.

Emphasis mine. I believe that's basically Clockwork Celerity right?

Kind of. Basically. But it's for one turn and not really close to replicating haste. It's sort of "get one extra action this turn." Didn't feel quite the same to me, though maybe that's more than Paizo wants to put into Unstable.

we know that they know that DC17 for unsatble is not exactly right, so some adjustemnets there will be probably made to make Unstable actions more than 1/encounter.

so, if everything works out, you could potentially use it more than once.

as an added benefit, because it's not "quicken" but a free action on top of your actions, you can stack Celerity with regular Quicken effects like haste and get potentially up to 5 actions in that turn.

It is quicken: "You’re quickened for this turn. How you can use the extra action depends on your innovation." The action to gain quickened is a free action though.

ah shoot, i misread that :/ well, it would be kinda crazy otherwise so oh well^^

I hadn't seen that they've acknowledged that DC 17 for Unstable is high though, so that changes my view a bit. Where I was coming from was basically that if I'm getting off one, maybe two Unstable abilities per combat, they need to be more than a turn or else I'm just snagging something else with Celerity.

It was right in the "welcome to the playtest" post. But it was easy to miss, as with so many things in Paizo prose....
