Has anyone used Mogaru (or any kaiju, for that matter) in their games?

If so, what did you do?

Combat wise, probably none for 99% of GMs. Would be cool if there were some in the lower 20s for a little more variation, but their exaggerated level range makes the entire kaiju category pretty unusable, unfortunately. I imagine they are typically relegated to background scenery until the PCs complete their arbitrary objectives to make them vanish.

If players did reach that point where they could fight one, they probably would rather have their PCs fight something with a bit more status and influence. Like an Archdevil as opposed to something you would see from Pacific Rim =\

From my impression there are quite some fans of Japanese fiction in the hobby - and I guess they would totally appreciate battling a kaiju.

About the CR range: Yes, it's usually prohibitive. But while many Bestiary entries serve as material for encounters, others don't. Some monsters are just in to be awesome - probably triggering players to think about how to beat them. There are appearantly a few more special purposes for Bestiary entries, but I'd like to think more about that before posting.

And finally, not every encounter must be to the death. For example a single round of conflict with a kaiju is still awesome, but less dangerous than a full-scale fight. The kaiju might be forced to pay attention to something else after the single round, or it doesn't even recognize the adventurers as a threat. Or it's just a dream / vision / mindscape experience / whatever anyway.

I haven't used any printed kaiju but I have thrown some pretty nasty big critters against my players: Burrowers, Tiamat and the Night Spider.

Burrowers, or Great Annelids, are giant worm-like creatures that eat so much of the planet's crust that they endanger all life on the surface. Their larval forms are purple worms, and average adults are 1000' feet long. One of them had the mental abilities of a neothelid overlord.

Tiamat was in a Mystaran adaptation of RHoD, where instead of her being an established god the whole thing was part of Tiamat's attempt to reach Immortality. Since we failed that adventure, I had to make her an appropriate threat for 16th level characters. She had a size and hp/attacks worthy of a kaiju, as well as five heads that could each do something in a round, like cast a spell or breathe. So a bit more spellcastery than your typical kaiju, but nasty. that fight had 6 PC deaths (divided among 4 PCs)

The Night Spider was a severely weakened Immortal that was trying to hide out on another Immortal's home plane, so avoided using divine powers. Even so the PCs needed 5 Wishes and 2 Miracles just to survive. Again, very spellcastery, but with unpleasantly high ability scores and HP and physical damage output.

My major issue with them is that despite their size they are only Colossal, sized. The size category system really needs to be open-ended.

in a modern pathfinder game, Kaiju-esque monsters gave me a reason to come up with a system for doing combat with construction equipment

I love kaiju myself, at least in concept in this game. I definitely would have my players face off against one.

My issue is that the entire category is gated for the upmost end game of end game encounters, and I don't think it really makes sense for all kaiju to be treated in this way. The fact that you can have your high level PCs fight head on against titanic godly titans and civilization/world destroying behemoths, but be as helpless as hamsters in the presence of any kaiju really rubs me the wrong way.

True, not every monster needs to be fought. I don't have issue with Kaiju like Mogaru or Varklops being the pinnacle of all kaiju. However, all of them being exaggerated this way just really doesn't do it for me.

Hopefully they can stray away from this in PF2, which it looks like they won't. I think the idea that a Druid/Sorcerer, that can literally transform into a kaiju, getting annihilated in a single round from any kaiju is pretty tasteless, to me.

The best way to use Kaijus is to treat them like "natural disasters". Let's say that there's a tornado coming in. The PCs might want to safe themselves and the nearby town, and not try to slash the tornado with a sword :P

(While controlling the weather might work, it,s not an early low-level spell.)

I had an idea of (due to Mogaru being able to be controlled by music), having an evil bard with a magic harp withi which he can control Mogaru with no saving throw, and is useing to make Mogaru destroy stuff he doens't like. The Pcs would have to stop the bard (who is only 18-20 or so and thus beatable,) and then use the harp to make Mogaru go away,

I would like to throw a few vehicles from Dragonstar D20 or Ships of Skyebourne at one. An armada or another kaiju is the only way I see to stop one.
