Seeking a good feat for an Animal Companion (Allosaurus)

Advice

Anyone have any suggestions for a good feat for my dinosaur (allosaurus) animal companion for my level 10 druid? She already has: Narrow Frame, Iron Will, and Extra Item Slot (Shoulders & Belt). She's a typical melee beast: bite (with grab) & 2 claws, with pounce, whose only unusual shtick right now is the ability to use Hunter's Tricks (aka Skirmisher Ranger tricks). I can also enlarge her to Huge though there's often not enough room to do that. In a couple of levels the druid will ride her as a mount. I'm more interested in feats that are "fun" rather than just a straight +1 bonus to something (looking at you, Weapon Focus).

What is your animal companion's intelligence? If you've raised it to 3 or more it opens you up to a lot more options.

Animal companions with an Intelligence of 3 or higher can select any feat they are physically capable of using.

Improved Unarmed Strike/Dirty Fighting -> Feral Combat Training for example would let you take full advantage of a style feats like boar style or shark style.

Or even non-combat feats like cunning.

Yep, Int 3. That's a great suggestion - just what I was looking for - thanks!

Eldritch claws make her attacks magical

I'd ask for a homebrew Deific Obedience for Ka the Preserver

3 int
Power attack
Demonic style
Additional traits (armor expert, any other good one like defensive strategist)
Eldritch claws (unless already a totem guide which gets it for free)
Combat stamina (upgrades eldritch claw and gives stamina pool)

If you have a couple feats to spare, totem beast (gives pet permanent animal focus ability based off its hd) and planar focus (use fire planar focus on pet for mad burnination)

Benefit: As part of your movement or as a 5-foot-step, you can move into the space occupied by an ally of your size or smaller, which displaces the ally into the space you just left. Your ally must be willing and able to move and able to occupy the space you were in. This movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity. This does not count toward your ally’s movement on his next turn.

This is a great feat for any large (or larger) creature, especially if you're fighting in tight quarters. It's basically Swap Places, but you don't waste your ally's actions and can be larger than them. And it's not a teamwork feat.

Should allow you to charge through ally squares, but that's not a stated benefit so YMMV.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It can take the feat Martial Focus (Natural) which not only gives +1 damage to all of it's attacks but qualifies it to take weapon mastery feats like Cut from the Air, Smash from the Air and Spellcut.

Some additional feats worth considering

Creature Focus (if the campaign regularly features a paritcular creature type)
Thrill of the Hunt
Blood Feast
Meditation Master -> Body Control
Meditation Master -> Mindful Meditation
Bloody Assault
Caster's Champion
Dazing Assault
