The Hunter's "Hunt Prey" ability states "as Poacher, but for 1d8 Precision Damage."
The poacher's hunt prey reads, "Hunt Prey [one-action] (concentrate) The poacher designates a single creature they can see and hear, or one they’re Tracking, as their prey. The poacher gains a +2 circumstance bonus to Perception checks to Seek the prey and to Survival checks to Track the prey. The first time the poacher hits the designated prey in a round, they deal an additional 1d8 precision damage. The poacher also ignores the penalty for making ranged attacks within their second range increment. These effects last until the poacher uses Hunt Prey again."
Is this meaning that the Hunter does not got the 1d8 precision damage ?
sorry for a silly question but when I read it originally I thought that it was to replace the poachers Die of precision damage. Then I started over thinking it an confused my self.
thank you all

Yes exactly.
Since "prey" damage only works for one attack per round, and additionally requires the NPC to "mark" the target beforehand, 1d8 isn't a large amount of extra precision damage.
(There are "sneak attack" monsters that get it on every attack against flat-footed targets at similar levels).
If this is something that really bugs you, my recommendation would be to increase the Hunters "prey" damage to something more appropriate for a level 7 creature:
Hunt Prey [one-action] (concentrate) As poacher, but for 2d8 precision damage.

Until they use it again on another creature. It lasts forever otherwise

Hmm... depends. I remember that when I was playing a slayer in 1E, I'd sometimes end up making someone/something a Studied Target when not in combat, for the skill bonuses, or out if suspicion that I was going to go find them and make there be combat later. The same dort of thing can happen with 2E rangers, especially those that use the Outwit edge.

Creatures that get marked rarely last two rounds if that. I don't believe it gets better for monsters/NPCs...
I played with a Ranger 2 days ago, in a Battle that lasted more than 7 rounds.

Also, since PCs usually don't die in their encounters but monsters usually do, necessitating a change in prey, if anything Hunt Prey usually lasts longer for a monster assuming it survives to keep hunting.
Hi Mark!
Do you have a comment on the actual issue here?
Should we simply strike ", but for 1d8 Precision Damage." from the Hunter ability?
Or should a number be adjusted?
Best regards,
