What things that work with Alchemist Bombs?

Rules Discussion

I assume these are yes, but wanted to double check.

Don't add Str because of Splash trait?

Master/Legendary Martial weapon proficiency?
Greater Weapon Specialization?
Point Blank Shot?
Fearsome Brute?
Debilitating Shot?

Raging Thrower?
-Giant barbarian throwing large bottles?

Snap Shot?
Hunter's Aim?
Distracting Shot/Greater Distracting Shot?
Penetrating Shot?
Far lobber + far shot = 60'?
-Far lobber + far shot +legendary shot = 300'?

Ranged Reprisal?
Blade Ally?
-With returning????
-Smite evil/Radiant Blade Spirit/Radiant Blade Master?
Blade of Justice/Instrument of Zeal?

If bonus damage is not specified, it is the same type?

Any other ones that look interesting?

Point Blank Shot calls out a Ranged Volley weapon, so a Longbow.

Fearsome Brute seems to be yes.

Debilitating Shot seems to work.

Raging Thrower I would say no, since you don't add STR so why would you add Rage bonus?

Snap Shot, distracting Shot, Penetrating shot and the far lobber, far shot etc... I read as being allowed. Penetrating shot is a bit weird since you are hitting a target behind someone else with a glass bottle, but eh, maybe it bounced?

Blade ally would work... once. Since you designate a specific bomb, that bomb is your ally. Then it explodes.

Returning I would rule as a no since bombs have consumable and thus can not be returned.

See no problem with Smite/radient/etc.. excepting only the consumable aspect.

well Alchemical Bomb is a Martial weapon, so any thing that works with ranged thrown weapons should work as a base line. So proficiency would go up same with Weapon Specialization.

Per RAW, a Barbarians rage bonus would apply with Raging Thrower. That damage bonus isn't strength-bound, you also get it if you attack with finesse weapons (and even if you are a thief rogue MCing into barb and using DEX for damage).

Giant Barbarian throwing large bottles (kegs) is tricky. Since you only start with one large weapon, you would only have 1 large bomb at character creation. Now the question is if you are allowed to craft large bombs - especially with quick alchemy.
I would allow it but make it a different formula. So you need the formula for "large keg bomb" to get the Giant Barb benefit and the formula for "standard vial bomb" if you want to give bombs to your puny little party members.

Point Blank Shot Stance is weird with thrown weapons. RAW the stance would end after you throw the bomb since you don't meet the prerequisites anymore. You'd have to activate the stance for each bomb.

Point blank shot requires a ranged volley weapon, so no bombs.

It doesn't. The requirement is listed as "You are wielding a ranged weapon."

It allows you to ignore Volley if your weapon has the trait. If it doesn't Point Blank Shot provides a +2 damage bonus in the first range increment.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

This is how we've been playing it in our group, too. I have a dragon instinct Barbarian who's applying his rage damage bonus to bombs with Raging Thrower.

It's not something that's really going to hurt anything to allow, frankly. You need quite a bit of Feat investment to get Alchemist freebie bombs to scale unless you're crafting them outright instead of using Alchemist Dedication (at a bare minimum, Alchemist Dedication+Quick Bomber+Expert Alchemy to get Moderate bombs), and at the end of the day you've spent a fair amount of trouble trying to keep up with the plain ol' Barbarian over there throwing around a Returning trident.

Fair dues, re-read the feat. That'll teach me to try to read rules after bed time. :)

As a note, since Splash is a separate statitsic from the main damage.

I'm not sure what if any of this would boost that.

Nothing that boosts weapon damage boosts splash damage, it's separate.

Forgot to add sneak attack.

Not that rogues have martial weapon proficiency, but still there.

The routes I've found to address that are Alchemist MCD for Trained with bombs, Fighter MCD for Trained with martial weapons (and level 12 option to raise that to expert) and the Weapon Proficiency general feat to gain Trained with martial weapons. Have I missed anything?
