Joel,
What does the Rock know about Marvel? I mean I get he's Black Adam...but I didn't think DC and Marvel stars mixed that much.
He's the voice of Groot (so is one of the few DC/Marvel crossover actors), and mentioned that James Gunn is his source on the Guardians being in Thor (at least some of them).

Isn't Apocalypse older than Selene though?
(Albeit, not by much...)Also, isn't the existence of mutants ultimately due to the Celestials who placed the potential for it in the human genome (which'd account for the rare ancient mutant) & that the background radiation of the modern age jump-started the surge of mutations we see now?
Oh, also, time travel shenanigans somewhere... <shrug?>
Carry on, I guess,
--C.
Apocalypse Comes from Ancient Egypt. Selene was around during Conans time as shown in the classic storyline in that she met her old rival Kulan Gath as he remade New York to a Version of his time.

I think part of the reason was simply that Radiation was no longer the simple solution like in the 60, so they added the Celestials manipulating the Genome again.

Use CGI like they did for pre-muscles Steve in the origin sequence and flashbacks.KahnyaGnorc wrote:thejeff wrote:Can you really get someone who can look the part of both a weak, mousey person AND a muscled amazon?KahnyaGnorc wrote:Well, Jen was, at first at least, a bit of a dormouse, which is why the outgoing, gregarious She-Hulk was such a difference, size and strength aside.
Since the Disney+ shows are supposed to have movie-level budget, having an actress that looks the part of pre-gamma Jen, with a giant cgi She-Hulk, would be excellent. Obviously, the actress would need to be able to ACT the part of both, but not have to look like she could be She-Hulk.
Though I'd rather have the green lawyer She-Hulk.
Always my favorite version of the character. Start with an actress who can look the part and just use the CGI to scale her up a bit. And to go green of course.
She-Hulk was generally proportionally more human-looking than Hulk.Yes. Her name is Alison Brie. Check out GLOW if you haven't. Besides, check out GLOW anyway because it's insane.
Besides if they can fold Ruffalo's looks well into 8 foot tall Hulk, they can make CGI She-Hulk with Brie's features (or any other appropriate actress) just fine.
They're going to do an origin story, which means we are going to be seeing human Jennifer a good deal, and she needs to look like an ordinary person. You don't need a muscular person to make a muscular CGI (although Alison Brie can and has built muscle, she's just overall a relatively small person). That's not how it works.
Steve is different because Cap is still a normal human size and shape, so his "superhero form" doesn't need to be CGI. Plus in some scenes what they did with Skinny Steve frankly looked awful. It's clear in some scenes Chris Evans' head is being pasted onto someone else's body, and then there's that scene in the car with Steve and Peggy where alternately he looks like a child (not just a short, grown man) and Peggy looks like Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.
Further what they are capable of with CGI has expanded dramatically since TFA. If you look at Hulk in Avengers vs Hulk in Endgame, they can make far more convincing CGI . And She-Hulk may not always be as bulky as Hulk (though she can be), she is still at least 7 feet tall and frikkin' enormous. She-Hulk's proportions just aren't human no matter how much you want to think of them as. They are going to have to CGI build her body from the ground up no matter what to make it look right.
You need to cast Jennifer Walters for the role, not She-Hulk.
KahnyaGnorc
Using CGI to make someone more monstrous is a LOT easier than using it to make someone look different but still normal human. While the de-aging tech has advanced considerably, it is still only manipulating things like fine facial features, not height, muscle mass, figure, etc.
Hulk is Ruffalo-like (when he wasn't Norton-like), Thanos became Brolin-like, She-Hulk will invariably look like whatever actress they get to play her, no need to have an amazonian actress.
DQ's last line above hits the nail perfectly.
thejeff
The only reason I even suggested it is if they're going for the less monstrous, always She-Hulk version, which I liked a lot, then it might work better to have less CGI for the look that's going to be on screen most of the time. For much of that time, She-Hulk wasn't "monstrous", just proportionally bigger. And green.
All depends on what they want to do.

Savage She-Hulk started out being very different personality when she was angry.
Immersion in the Fountain of Youth while in the form of She-Hulk calmed her down and Jennifer could remember what happened while hulked out.Eventually Jennifer had total control of her transformation (I think that happened when the writers decided to have her become an Avenger).
She was stuck for a while in She-Hulk form after being irradiated while shutting down a run-away nuclear reactor (on a SHIELD helicarrier if I remember correctly), that was why she was Lawyer She-Hulk.

I don't remember the Fountain of Youth thing, but I think it was well before her time as Avenger that she not only had control, but was spending basically all her time in She-Hulk form. She didn't really care when she was stuck that way, since she preferred it already.
More recently she was shifting back and forth again and She-Hulk's been ragey and out of control. Not sure what really led to that.
DeathQuaker RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8
I keep losing track, but Jen had lost control of She-Hulk, due to grief issues, in short. She eventually dealt with her issues in a rare case of a superhero needing therapy actually seeking it out, and it working, so she's regained control.
Jen basically has three forms -- Jennifer, Jennifer/She-Hulk hybrid, Savage She-Hulk. Ordinary human, a "halfway hulk" that is green and very tall and muscular and an in-control more confident version of herself, full on superbulky Hulk form. Even if she has full control of herself at all times, she will still more fully "Hulk out" if circumstances arise or she is very angry.
This is all the more reason you need a good CGI version of the She-Hulk body because it needs to be able to transform organically. They did this in fact to an extent with Hulk in Endgame... Professor Hulk, while huge, is a little smaller and has far more distinctly Banner-like facial features. 2012 Hulk--even in Endgame--is larger and more bestial looking.
Since the series will show her origins, and I expect she will probably have to learn a bit how to control herself, we'll probably see all permutations a fair amount.

The Fountain thing was early in the comic, written by David Kraft.
++Stan Lee created She-Hulk and wrote the origin issue. He wanted her to be the female version of Hulk (like Bionic Woman was to Six Million Dollar Man).Kraft wrote the rest of the initial 25 comic run. I don't think he liked her being so angry. The comic was canceled about the same time she joined the Avengers.
She-Hulk joined the Fantastic Four after the first Secret Wars, filling in for The Thing. It was while a member of the FF that she got stuck as She-Hulk (written by John Byrne).
++She later finds out her inability to transform back was all psychological because she preferred being She-Hulk over Jennifer Walters.
Her recent anger issues were due to a beating she took from Thanos during the second Civil War and the "death" of Bruce at the hands of Hawkeye.
++From Wikipedia. (Everything else is from reading.)

At least you can cite your sources, Charles.
As for She-hulk's current form, there's something that Jason Aaron's doing mostly because a) Hulk is doing his own thing thank to Al Ewing's great writing and better understanding of Hulk than some others.. and b) I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the Avengers stories going forward in which they had to fight Celestials infected by the Horde and there was the brief thing where Daredevil had Heimdall's sight.
IN ANY CASE! What I think we need to focus on is this: Will Falcon truly take up Cap's shield or will it remain unwielded? Also with Wandavision, I'm hopeful that Monica Rambeau isn't a side note character.

Yeah, that led into the Brood Mutants story, which was pretty bad, imo.
You can also see some of the sharks in the original Brood story arc, though they were basically just background images and didn't get the focus the Acanti did.

Marvel Terminates Pair of Showrunner Overall Deals

This should be about Marvel, but:
Series - Seasons
TOS - 3
TNG - 7
DS9 - 7
Voy - 7
Ent - 4
Dis - 2
Pic - 1
Total seasons so far = 31
That's over 750 episodes.
At 40-45 minutes per episode that is over 550 hours.

True ... but threads really should stick to their topics. If there’s nothing new going on at the moment, then I guess my question is why do folks feel the need to post at all in the thread? There are plenty of other threads here to post in, why not just let threads about a specific topic remain about that topic?
It’s pretty frustrating to see that there are multiple new posts in a thread you are interested in so you click in to read them, only to find that none of them have anything to do with the topic.
Don’t get me wrong - I LOVE Star Trek, and would love to discuss all the different shows at length, but not in a thread about Marvel.
Maybe that’s just me?

'Spider-Man 3': Alfred Molina Returning as Doctor Octopus
Interesting......
He was a good Doc Ock. Also, I had no idea about Jamie Foxx. The Wikipedia page for this movie also confirms something that Jamie Foxx hints at that was mentioned in this article. I'm not going to go into detail about it for those who like to avoid spoilers.

I'd guess that Strange and Wanda fixing them averts catastrophe, but forever weakens/reveals the boundaries between universes, which allows easier travel between them, which then sets up Spiderman 3. I don't see MCU opening up the multiverse only to "fix" it closed again. There's lots of options they can plumb for a while (not to mention a handy built in way to explain re-casting characters as needed when actors contracts are up, or unfortunately pass away as Chadwick Boseman did. Need a new iron man now that RDJ is done? - there's always another from another Earth to pull in if needed.)

Disney's investor event today announced a giant amount of stuff, including:
Additional shows coming to Disney+:
“Secret Invasion” starring Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, which Feige billed as “the biggest crossover comic event of the last 20 years,” which is saying something from the man who produced “Avengers: Endgame.”
“Ironheart,” an “Iron Man” spin-off series focusing on inventor Riri Williams, as played by Dominique Thorne (“If Beale Street Could Talk”).
“Armor Wars,” based on the 1980s comic book series about what happens when Tony Stark’s technology falls into the wrong hands, starring Don Cheadle as War Machine.
“The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special,” which writer-director James Gunn will shoot while making “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.”
As well as new details on the movie side of things:
Feige announced that Jon Watts, the director who steered Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man” reboot with “Homecoming” and “Far From Home,” is slated to lead a Fantastic Four movie.
Christian Bale will finally make a Marvel movie, as the actor’s role as villain Gorr the Godbutcher in “Thor: Love and Thunder” was confirmed.
“Ms. Marvel” star Iman Vellani and “Wandavision’s” Teyonah Parris (the adult version of Monica Rambeau, who appeared as a child in 2019’s “Captain Marvel”), will both join Brie Larson in “Captain Marvel 2.”
Feige also gave fans an update on the long-awaited “Ant-Man 3,” announcing the film’s official title “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer will return for the Peyton Reed-directed film, while Kathryn Newton joins the cast as Cassie Lang. Variety confirmed in September that Jonathan Majors would join the Marvel Studios film, but Feige officially announced the actor will play the time-traveling super-villain Kang the Conquerer.

Yeah, I put "fix" in quotes as it wouldn't be a "back to status quo full fix," but more magical duct tape. :)
