So at Paizo Con, we were told about the Hellknight Armiger archetype, and that by default it's uncommon. Meaning you can't select it normally, you need to basically discover it before you can select it. Which I personally enjoy the rarity system in 2e. We were told that some people can work around this however by being from Old Cheliax. I have a player who was planning on taking the Armiger archetype at LVL 2 because he loves Hellknights. The world guide being delayed doesn't really stop this (I probably will start Age of Ashes prior to the Guides release, but they will probably hit LVL 2 around the release if not after). So my question.
Is the prereq for making Armiger common just being from that area, or is it tied to specific backgrounds in the book. I'm well aware I can just waive my hand and say "go for it", but if possible I'd like to avoid doing that when possible. If it IS tied to a specific background, would it be possible to be spoiled on that specific background since Character Creation is likely to happen before the World Guide is released.
Thank you :)

I don't think we know for sure yet, but I suspect it's just having your character originating from Old Cheliax. You shouldn't have to take a specific background just to get this benefit, that would seem like it would constrain choices at character creation in a way I don't see anyone liking.

And remember, your GM always has the option to make uncommon or rare things common. The commonality is there to empower GMs rather than empowering players. There'll be LOTS of ways for GMs to allow this in-game, and for players to seek access to these options, ranging from making a character with ties to the desired element at generation to going on adventures and meeting NPCs that unlock the option to simply asking nicely for permission to use the content from your GM and so on.

But now I know one reason that we get a single background rather than 2+ traits. In a previous PF1 campaign, I created a character who had the traits Hellknight Ancestry and Two-World Magic, which required that my character come from Sargava and have a Hellknight as a parent. I had a fun time creating a biography to explain that combination.

You can still do that, and there's customization in all backgrounds to a certain extent so that if you pick the same one for 2 different characters they won't be EXACTLY the same.
