Reactions – more options?

Rules Discussion

One of my concerns with the Playtest was the fact that lacking good baseline reactions increased value of tools like the shield spell, which provided a very applicable reaction option at a very low opportunity cost.

Classes like Monks, who didn't have a good reaction option, were funnelled into either those or Crane Style, since otherwise, you had little to do with your reactions.

I'd like to know eventually if there are more options – like easy access to a Fighter's Attack of Opportunity or a Rogue's Dodge.

I mean, currently reactions aren't too difficult to get if you invest in Mulitclass Dedications. As for eventually...? We're all in the dark right now. We're still a month an a half out from launch.

But more than likely there will eventually be tons of options either in class or from multiclassing.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I'm not sure it's that bad for some characters to not have any use for their reaction. It seems comparable to a PF1 character not having any use for their swift action, which I believe is fairly common and not particularly problematic.

More options will eventually come, but I like that classes can have acess to their unique reaction instead of a universal one, monks with deflect arrows, Rogues with dodge, barbarian pursuing moving enemies and then champion that is a class made to use and abuse reactions.

Most classes got reactions as feats, and we know there will be more feats in the CRB than the playtest. So I think we can safely assume that some portion of the new feats will include reactions.
