Dragon Totem Breath taken with Alchemist and Barb dedication.

General Discussion

So... I built a rage-chemist mutagenist for fun.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how many dice I get on the breath attack.
Intuitively, I'd get half my level in dice, like the Barb dedication does for Rage or the Advanced Fury feat does for prereqs.
However never is it stated, what my Barbarian level is.
That leaves two interpretations to me.

1: I don't have any barbarian levels and thus don't get any dice for it

2: My character level counts as my barbarian level.

I am stumped, as is the PFreddit discord.
What do people here think?

Given every other multiclass thing references half your level, I'd presume that'd be what you'd use.

Except, that's not true. Specifically spellcasters are only 3 levels behind on scaling at lvl 20 assuming they took all the feats.

I would disagree. It specifies "For the purpose of meeting prerequisites". I believe the lack of adding "And for the feat's effects" implies that you should have the full effect of the feat for your level. I think this goes for any feat gained by multiclassing. Most feats just say "At xth level..." when they have level based improvements so there's less ambiguity, but I think DTB just specifies Barbarian levels so it's clear it isn't talking about some other kind of level than your character level.

RAW I think you are hosed and you get no damage because you have zero barbarian levels. RAI I think it's simply your level, since nothing else is stated about it like Edge93 says.

Btw what DC is the reflex save they must take, I'm 99% sure its class DC but shouldn't that be specified in the feat?

I agree with this. I feel like as multiclassing currently stands, "barbarian level" should just be "level."

I'll also note that while caster multiclassing lags behind for spell slots, it does not lag behind for spell rolls or spell DCs until the casters start getting expert+ in them. Cantrips scale at the same rate, too. So I think you're gonna just use your level for stuff like this.

Now, an interesting corner case might be something like Power Attack. It adds an additional die at fighter level 10. Does reaching that point count as fulfilling a prerequisite? If so, does that mean if you multiclass you don't get the second die until 20th?

Should just say level. We've tried to remove the character level/class level distinction. We caught this particular instance in our last pass on barbarian, so it's fixed!

Thank you so much for weighing in, Mark. We'll see how it plays out in the game.
