Kineticist Blade Rush

Rules Questions

Could a kineticist use blade rush in a grapple? Also can you blade rush without attacking any creature at the end?

Blade Rush:
Element(s) universal; Type form infusion; Level 2; Burn 2
Prerequisites kinetic blade
Associated Blasts any
Saving Throw none

You use your element’s power to instantly move 30 feet in any direction (even straight up), manifest a kinetic blade, and attack once. You gain a +2 bonus on the attack roll and take a –2 penalty to your AC until the start of your next turn. The movement doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity, though activating blade rush does. If you have the kinetic whip infusion, you can manifest a kinetic whip instead of a kinetic blade at the end of your movement by increasing the burn cost of this infusion by 1. The blade or whip vanishes instantly after the rush.

Blade rush combines a move and a single melee attack into a standard action. You trigger an AoO at the beginning but not for the movement. You could activate this while grappled but you wouldn't be able to move so its a bit pointless. It would be like doing a standard Kinetic Blade attack but with lots of drawbacks.

And again, yes you could do a blade rush and not make an attack at the end of your movement. The only real advantage to doing this would be that you can 'fly' for that 30' movement. Also since it isn't strictly prohibited you could use blade rush to 'charge' around corners...but that is only an advantage if you are going to make an attack.

While the movement itself isn't described, it isn't a teleport its just very fast movement that doesn't obey the normal rules of physics. You could travel 30' into the air and slash at something...then fall because nothing is supporting you at the end of that movement.

Thank you very much.
