Soundstriker bard opinion options

Advice

So I plan on having precise and point blank shot for feats, and retraining lingering performance later to get more rounds so i can sing em at people, but I was wondering if anyone has made one before, and what suggestions they may have.

1. Should I keep lingering performance? I don't really expect to buff anyone much unless the enemy is immune to sonic.

2. Are there any performances that really stick out as useful for damaging? I would probably trade spells for them.

3. Any MUST have spells or feats suggested?

4. Beyond the basic stat boosting gear and recommendations on must have equiptment, or useful magic instruments that are actually WORTH the price?

Lingering performance isn't going to help your sound striker performances, they will cost what they cost anyway.

I like the soundstriker as an archetype, because you trade away things I don't like and seldom use anyway, but I don't think it is anywhere near strong enough to make that your whole focus. Unless you have a very odd party, you are likely to contribute more damage by inspire courage and other action then you would with weird words. It is a nice backup ability, but not super strong on its own.

Keeping point blank and precise shot and taking other archery feats is a pretty good option for a bard. When you can start inspire courage as a move action and take a single shot in the first round (or perhaps cast haste) and then rain arrows in later rounds you will almost certainly contribute more.

Silver Crusade

You might also want to consider the Thundercaller Bard archetype, ESPECIALLY if

Three reasons to live is available in your campaign

Lantern Lodge

Three Reasons to Live is so OP when used with a Soundstriker!

6 levels higher! My friend plays a bard with Three Reasons to Live in PFS and he can pretty much blow anything apart.

@secane can you explain "can blow anything apart" ? kind of vague. The horn which is new to me, says it increases performance level variant by 6, but doesnt do increased damage for a sound striker, although albeit could use 1-2 more words, but that's about all i see.

As for thundercaller, I'll give it a look see, but this is a PFS char, so i would have to retrain, i believ ei ma currently level 3

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I doubt 3 reasons to live would be allowed anyways. It's kind of the whole focus of a treasure hunt and is the end rewards of the book.

But yes it would add some extra words on. Which at lower level is devastating.

1-2 more words is like 4d6 to 8d6 more damage, which is quite a lot of damage. Especially given that its sonic dmg, which is rarely resisted.

Three Reasons to Live makes a soundstriker from a pretty good archetype to a really good archetype.

Are there better damage builds out there? Sure. But Three Reasons to Live + Soundstriker is well in the top damage builds.

as ong as you have the rounds, okay thanks, i will look into it

Grand Lodge

If you really want to get crazy, pick up duetist/sound striker with a Lyrakein azata improved familiar. You use a lot of rounds of performance, but with Three Reasons, you and your familiar can do somewhere in the vicinity of 24d6+6xCha mod by roughly level 8

Verbose Performer feat increases Performance range to 60'. There is also the Windsong feat which allows one to cause a Performance to begin 60' away and extend 120' from that point! Both would benefit a Soundstriker.

@Syries I'm not sure the bard and the familiar would both be able to use the same horn unless you used it, then spent move action to hand it to familiar, familiar uses move action to grab horn then uses it, unless theres something i am missing, powerful indeed, but only if you are willing not to move.

@fourshadow interesting, i shall consider if they fit in somewhere
