PaizoCon Adventure Path panel: Tyrant's Grasp *SPOILERS*

Any chance we can get a sidebar in each installment with suggestions for upscaling to Mythic? Since the Whispering Tyrant was statted out with Mythic rules, it would be nice for those of us still running those rules to get a tad bit of help from the publisher.

Something as simple as the Militia sidebars in Ironfang Invasion would suffice. Example: Add two Mythic Ogres to the encounter with Bishop Evil. Add four mythic tiers to Admiral Winterdeath along with mythic ombat reflexes and backlash.

I am utterly delighted Crystal is writing on this one.

And Compton is doing the final!

I don't think Paizo has been shy about including enemies with Mythic abilities in APs when appropriate. But the official stance has been not to design the APs assuming the PCs have mythic powers.

So I would bet that we will see enemies with Mythic Ranks in this AP that GM's could use as challenges to provide mythic advancement to PCs, however the adventure will not be designed with mythic PCs in mind.

While it would be a boon if Paizo offered such suggestions, I don't think it should be expected. Just like we would not expect Paizo to include side bars for running with a group of 6 PCs instead of 4. Such a situation is outside the expected and declared parameters of the initial design, and up to individual GMs to adjust as best fits their own groups.

No. I disagree. This is the last AP. I expect it. It's ridiculous to abandon a ruleset just because a portion of the fanbase is so vocal about disliking it. if that were the case for everything, the playtest wouldn't make it any further.

that's far from ridiculous... but i get your point.

i concur that as one last shot to have a page in the 'continuing the campaign' outlining an expansion to Mythic - taking the fight to, say, the Four Horsemen at ridconkulous power levels.

People bought the sourcebook, and a lot of people really enjoyed it. Paizo has regularly included Mythic rules in its products since then.

This is it. Final shot. Final farewell to leaping headlong, cackling with impossible power into the mouth of hell with an 'M' next to your level. Do it.

I don't like it either, but I guess that there's probably more to it. Paizo has the numbers and if those don't support supporting the Mythic Rules they're probably better off putting their ressources into other stuff.

This said, I remember all the awesome community stuff that got created for Rise of the Runelords. And noone's stopping us Mythic fans to do those expansions ourselves.

Personally I didn't like Mythic....at least some tiers simply got to silly. I could see an individual character having mythic (because they were fathered by a god or some such) but in my mind it makes no sense for an entire party....or multiple parties....to have those kinds of abilities.

I don't think they'll revisit anything like mythic as we know it. There's too much negativity on this silly forum against it.

If you're a long time gamer like me, you probably looked forward to epic level play and then never reached it. Mythic Adventures was the first way to introduce epic level play without having to build a campaign for five years and then hope it didn't fall apart before you got the chance to implement the rules.

I am asking for a sidebar. That is all. Simple advice on using Mythic Adventures to confront a Mythic adversary. We're talking six sidebars over the course of an AP.

I hope this doesn't try too hard to setup the new status quo for PF2e and we lose sight of the AP (I'm imagining lots of things happening in the background, or regardless of what the PCs do certain outcomes must happen no matter what).

That said, if I do DM this one (no guarantee I will) I think it'd be an awesome way to revisit some past PCs. Give players the option to remake a PC from a prior campaign that got killed and wasn't resurrected/raised/reincarnated. Or if a player has no interest in that then they could make any PC they want that has some sort of tie to a prior adventure path and yet died off-camera (much how Sisko was introduced in Deep Space Nine despite never being seen in the Next Generation episode he was involved in).

The Exchange

huh? I was sure that in my last post I was quoting the part of nighttree's post where he refers to his disinterest in playing RPGs as if they were video games. Which is, in my opinion, not a quality Mythic Rules add to PFRPG anymore than Pathfinder already does by itself.

Crazy Idea for this campaign:
BACKGROUND
Aroden, who had defeated Tar Baphon, knew that he would rise one day and so used his connection to the Starstone to have it reach out and select 5 individuals who fit a certain criteria he thought was necessary to gain the power required to defeat Tar Baphon without then becoming an evil just as great as the Whispering Tyrant.

They would go through a series of tests as arranged by the Starstone to prepare them for a battle with Tar Baphon and test them to judge their appropriateness for godhood.

CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW
Test 1: Answering the Call
Upon dying the PCs are absconded by 2 psychopomps (who are affected by the Starstone) who reveal a terrible threat is looming across Golarion and it is they who must stop it. The psychopomps reveal that Pharasma does not know what it is they're up to and they are going to help the PCs conceal what it is they're doing.

After the players finish Book 1 and are ready to return to the world of the living they are whisked away to a void. The woman reveals that the balance of the universe is being upset and the woman must restore it. She shows the home of each of the PCs and reveals a calamity that has currently beset it and offers to allow the calamity to end and spare the region if the PCs are willing to return to the queue, otherwise she will let them return to the world of the living but the calamity will continue as the cost for the PCs returning to life.

The PCs are given a real choice in this matter. The player can roll up new characters if they choose not to continue and the campaign will continue (albeit without the potential outcome of becoming a God for that player's PC). If they continue Book 2 begins and they gain Mythic 1.

The entity confronting the PCs refuses to confirm her identity. She is in fact the Starstone personified.

Additional Tests
Additional ranks in mythic don't need to necessarily be handed out (and potentially shouldn't be). The first one is simply to set the tone of the campaign)

Final Test: The Final Leap
After the campaign concludes the PCs are told how attaining godhood means no longer being able to directly meddle in the affairs of mortals. The Starstone says that Aroden learned that lesson far too late.

The PCs are given a choice: Godhood or returning to Golarion with all the power they have attained and the freedom to use it without direct interference by the gods. The power to easily return any loved ones back to life. The power to undo the calamity that befell their home town in Book 1. The power to oppose the terrible forces that set their sights upon Golarion far too often. The power to have every earthly desire fulfilled.

They are transported to the chasm before the Starstone and told to leap across it to attain their godhood or turn away to continue living their lives.

What do people think?

[EDIT]: Added in something at the bottom of the spoiler.

Well I'm going to have to come up with a substitute for

Spoiler:
Nocticula, if it is her, given that my Wrath of the Righteous character killed her to death.
.

Very excited about

Spoiler:
Arcadia
, though.

Has volume One been posted yet ?

This one won't start until February 2019, after Return of the Runelords ends.

It's still odd that they would put two and three up....but not the first one......

Which is exactly why it didn't work for me as epic-level play. APs going to 20 is a good start in that direction, and gives me hope for the possibility of getting actual epic in PF2.0 eventually.

My group just finished Wrath of the Righteous. I absolutely loved it and loved my character and the party we had.

If I could set up this campaign any way I want it would go something like this.

The heroes of the Worldwound learn of the threat and imminent return of the Whispering Tyrant. Unfortunately Tar Baphon and his cultists know the heroes know and it plays right into their plan. Knowing the heroes are near unstoppable they draw them into a trap at Gallowspire. Hoards and hoards of undead await them. As the heroes destroy the minions of the Whispering Tyrant by the hundreds if not thousands, a ritual is underway at the sacred seal atop the spire. The destruction of the droves of undead only fuels the ritual. Just as the heroes finally make the top of the spire the ritual is completed and the seal explodes! As it does the negative energy is infused into the shards of the seal and they penetrate the heroes and undead all around, instantly weakening the heroes and stripping them of all mythic power. On the other hand the shards empower the undead and create mythic enemies.

The weakened heroes are then torn apart by the mythic undead and the campaign begins as normal, the heroes being able to return at level 1.

As they grow in power again they find ways to remove the shards and defeat the new mythic undead and begin gaining their mythic power back. Throughout the campaign they can even find parts of their lost treasures! As a side quest they could begin collecting the shards from themselves and the defeated mythic enemies and recreate the seal or even creat a weapon or item or shield (Arodens shield?) to help them defeat or trap Tar Baphon in his prison again!

Players could grow their characters exactly like they were before or even make changes to their character and tiers as they climb the levels again.

This looks pretty cool! So is this going to be the LAST Adventure Path before the edition changes? I thought that's what Return of the Runelords was going to be, so the news of this AP surprised me.

Who are the iconics for this?

I believe the brawler, kineticist, paladin and....

a human version of the inquisitor?

In the first picture of the PCs climbing out of the sarcophagi, there's a woman dressed like the iconic inquisitor but she has pink skin and no tusks, so I'm not sure what's up with that.

In other news, there are TWO (2) wyrwoods (wyrwood? wyrforest?) in this, which is absolutely rad cause I thought they went the way of so many other weird bestiary pc-playable-races that are never mentioned again in any content whatsoever.

Umm, this isn't first time Wyrwoods have appeared in AP. In general, only only 0hd races from really recent books haven't appeared in any content :P Which is like... Only rougarou, those psychic mouthless eyeless silhoutte people, those sasquath-lite and reptoids haven't appeared in anything I think. I think they were all from same bestiary and recent enough to not appear in anything?

I don't think the deep one hybrids, wyvarans, gathlain, or those tapir-snouted lovecraftian wizard guys have appeared in anything either, but I might be wrong. In any case, new wyrwood art always makes me happy. I'll have to look for them harder in other content if they've been in more stuff than I thought.

Gathlains and wyvarans have appeared in pathfinder player companion and gotten more player materail. Especially gathlains, they appear in like two or three player companion books. Hybrids and those lovecraft wizards are npcs only anyway, I think former might have been mentioned in some of the campaign setting books and latter aren't really in golarion normally but yeah latter haven't been mentioned I think

(but yeah, wyrwood appeared in Ruins of Azlant on one island)
