So, we all know that solar weapons can take any form. They have to be wielded by one hand, but if we abstract it out to “at least one hand has to be free” we open ourselves up to a lot of creative ideas for what your solar weapon can be. The core book suggests a set of glowing tunes, here are just a few other ideas. Can you think of more?

A Stand from JoJo’s bizzare adventure (a humanoid figure that pops out and punches enemies for you.

Animal limbs, such as the ‘gifters’ From One Piece

Giant half of scissors From kill la kill and more.

Combat Yo-yo Bridget from guilty gear, Killua from hunterxhunter, Smokey quartz from Steven universe.

So is this for society play? If not why limit it to one handed? I don't know why Paizo made it so that you can't have two solar weapons like double daggers (etc). I mean does it affect gameplay at all? If you open this up the possibilities are endless.

Just following the rules as written:

Core rulebook-Soalr weapon wrote:
Your solar weapon functions as a one-handed kinetic advanced melee weapon, and you’re automatically proficient with it. At 1st level, choose whether your solar weapon deals bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage

Oh I know the text. I was just asking for your thoughts. There really isn't 2 weapon fighting so attacking with the first solar dagger and then attacking with the second you are still at -4 for both attacks. Are you going by the book or looking for things someone would see when they start a fight with an NPC solarian?

Just looking for interesting options that follow RAW so that it can apply to SFS/stringent GMs/whatevs. It could be for PCs, NPCs, or whatever.

Back when Beta and I were first going through the CRB, I rolled up a Shirren Solarian (Bounty Hunter) with Profession (Door-to-Door Salesman) as his backstory. He'd track down perps, pretending to try to sell goods from his pitch-black briefcase (Solar weapon, bludgeoning). Plus when someone tries to escape, he simply clicks open the briefcase and a vortex pulls them back to him (Blackhole revelation).

My Female human solarion Veronica really like punching things. So her solar weapon is a literal power fist.

Also a bit of a tangent, but I'm just a bit irked when everyone makes comparisons of a solar weapon to a lightsaber. Solar weapons way more like the energy weapons you see in anime like dragonball or a poor man's green lantern with how you are the source of the weapon and how you can define it's shape. Making an instant equation to lightsabers kinda boxes in creative applications IMO.

While that's true, it was a pretty clear developer intention that Solarians be the Starfinder version of Jedi, even if they have a broader range of abilities and ways that they can be fluffed, and even if soldiers can also use "light sabers". We can't fault people too much for thinking narrowly along the explicitly stated design goals.

A few others:

Gadoken a short range energy projectile that could be flavored as a melee attack. From Dan Hibiki of Street Fighter

A 4001 Rickenbacker Bass Guitar from Haruko of FLCL

A massive sword wielded in one hand Nightmare, Soul Calibur

Hand on a chain.

I had an NPC that I just described his solarian weapon as a fist of utter darkness covered in black glowing runes.

Keep the ideas coming!

Frying Pan From Tangled/Princess Peach

Books From The final fantasy series (and the living Grimoire archetype from pathfinder.)

Chopsticks used by Kirin from Ranma 1/2: Big trouble in Nekonron, China.

A glow-in-the-dark yo-yo.. and a fiery length of chain.

A crowbar

A fishing pole.

A large fish.

Combine with the previous two ideas and get a fish on a pole...

A dog on a leash.

A large bone

A giant log used as a club (Not sure how this could work one handed)

A disgruntled armor solarion upset weapons solarions get crystals to improve their weapons and all he gets is the MonStar schtick. Not a solar weapon directly, just a solarion picking up another one and using his armored form as a weapon.

Scarab Sages

Man, I gotta comment on some of these, they’re great!

Fun story, I had a friend who made a PFS rogue with catch off guard and improved disarm. He had a ‘trusty buddy’ build where he specialized in hitting people with trusty buddy. He picked up a level in bard and used arcane strike to make it magical.

Gon Freecess From Hunterxhunter

just going to leave this here

A caveman Solarian!

Pretty sure I’ e seen this somewhere but I can’t recall where. On a related note, my friends and I did come up with a PFS build that let you wield an orc skull ram 1-handed, which is basically the same thing.

A gun with a bayonet. Bluff your enemies into thinking it's a ranged weapon. Bonus points if it's a plug bayonet and they still fall for it.

A sword held backwards as a bludgeoning weapon.

A fanged mouth.

A giant squeaky hammer toy.

A giant crab claw sheathed over your arm.

A disco ball flail. For When It's Time To Get Funky lol. Also a toy gun like the one the Joker uses... the one that shoots out a little flag with bang on it. Also I would make armor in the shape of a Darkness riot shield.

Drill bits of varying styles.

A workshop hammer, just to make "this is not a drill" jokes.

A rubber chicken.

A pie (good for orcs).

A kris

A diskos.

This is how my brain works:

So your quote reminded me of:
an Identity disk from Tron

That it turn reminded me of Kingdom hearts, which brought to mind:

A Keyblade from Kingdom Hearts,

And THAT reminded my of Goofy’s Weapon in the game which behaves suspiciously like:
Captain America’s shield

Well, some of those work. The crossbow-guns don’t really, nor do the spears (not as he uses them, just floating around) but punching daggers and that Beserker club thing do just fine. Plus we could go full circle and include Xemnas’s Weapon which seems familiar.

I'm gming a game where one of my players(at my suggestion) has a Spatulaxe for his solar weapon.

A tendril of pure darkness that is wielded like a whip or flail.

A gigantic glowing spoon. Or, alternatively, something like the darksabre from that old Clone Wars cartoon, except with swirling stars in it.

Oh, and of course, just a glowing telescope you use as a bludgeon

An electric guitar. Wielded, of course, by someone with a theme of Icon (Rock Star) and their Solarion powers come from power chords.

You could just have your glowing orb thing fly out and make physical attacks against anything that gets too close to you, either pummeling them like a heavy iron ball, or shooting right through them like a speeding bullet.

Or you could just walk around with your hands in your pockets, while giant, ghostly, disembodied hands pummel your foes for you. I think that would be seriously cool.

That was literally my first suggestion.

There is a pretty big difference between "disembodied hands" and "a humanoid figure."

Would you have responded the same if I said penis rather than hands? Of course not. It sets a totally different style/mood/theme. It's the same with hands vs what looks like an apparition of an entirely different creature.
