Crafting Overhaul? PF 2E

Prerelease Discussion

Do you plan on improving the crafting system in PF2E?

I have always found this one of the most intriguing part of RPGs and also have had many players who were interested in it, but the rules were always so convoluted and the times to create items so impractical that I have rarely had a player use the crafting system. And I don't blame them.

Do you plan on streamlining crafting and possible ways to make it useful in sessions that don't run in multiple in game months with alot of down time?

I would rather than streamline crafting, make it interesting. Have players collect ingredients or materials for their crafting, making thematic decisions about how to create the object they want, making them become more invested in the things they make.

I would be shocked if crafting wasn't overhauled significantly given the amount of upheaval already stated for the skill/proficiency/whatever system.

Silver Crusade

I like the Dynamic Item Creation rules from Unchained. They make crafting interesting and add little quirks to the items.

my biggest question is actually is enchanting armor and weapons still a thing. since legendary crafted +5 sword making attacks at +8, +3 and -2 or if we put agile in the sucker +8, +6, +4 math gonna be wonky until munckin heads do the math again to see the numbers we have headaches worth several days

From what I can tell the automatic bonus progression is going to be baked into the game from the start, so whatever form crafting takes it’s likely to allow players to make more interesting items than mathematically optimised ones.

Okay, I still don't get where people are getting this "agile is -2 instead of -5" thing. In the podcast, they pretty clearly state that an agile weapons is -4 for additional attacks, not -2. Where did this start?

Also, Legend is only +3, not +5. It goes Expert +1, Master +2, Legend +3.

Considering one of the three areas of the game is downtime, I'm hopeful crafting is getting a good rehash in the new rules. I think they can go a little wild with them as there can't be many people wedded to the old rules and no holy bovines there to slow change and improvement.
