Hello, I am looking for players for the upcoming Adventure Path in Late February, The War for the Crown.
War For The Crown
Your character need not to have be from Taldor, simply that you acknowledge your character may be involved in the affairs of Taldor up to 18-20th levels in course of the Adventure Path. Basically an entire campaign.
The sessions would be on Wednesday 2-5PM EST on Roll20

(taken from Big 16)
2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)?

Adventure Path. Golarion Setting

3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many?
4-6.

5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)?

1st Level

6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with?

Standard. Optional stuff may be considered.

7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes?

Well, not a class but rather a concept I want is a knight. (Cavalier, Fighter, Paladin, Cleric, Magi, WIzard, Sorcerer, Ranger, inquisitor, bard, rogue and monk can be a knight. Reference; "Knights of the Inner Sea").

8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?

Core races. Playable races from Bestiaries and Advanced Races are on per case basis.

9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?

Attribute Buy Points, 20 points. (Pointer for newcomers; Table 1-1 in Corebook. All scores start at 10s as is standard)

10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?

Yes and no Chaotic Evil or Chaotic Netural

11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?

Yes, standard rules.

12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?

Roll20 will handle the rolls. DM will roll for NPCs and nonplayer entities. Players will roll for their characters' actions.

13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them.

We will be using Ultimate Campaign and Ultimate Intrigue optional rules as well the following optional/variant rules;

Ultimate Combat
-Duels
-Performance Combat
-Armor as Damage Reduction
-Piecemeal Armor
-Hero Points

Ultimate Magic
-Spell Duels
-Binding Outsiders
-Constructs construction

Unchained
-Background Skills
-New Skills: Artistry and Lore
-Expanded Skill Uses
-Alternate Crafting and Profession Rules
-Skill Unlocks
-Replacing Iterative Attacks
-Wound Levels
-Disease and Poisons
-Active Spellcasting
-Scaling Items
-Dynamic Magic Item Creation

14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)?

1 page.
And each player is required to write 5 rumors about their characters' reputations. 2 good, 2 bad, and 1 false. This is for other player characters about what they might know about the character's reputation. The other players can not know which one is false.

15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?

Look up the Adventure Path and see if it is something you want to try.

16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?

Pathfinder SRD and all first party sources. 3rd party sourcbooks will not be used.

Liberty's Edge

Sounds interesting...will read the players guide and see what I can come up with!!

Somehow missed this one, I might be interested as well. Kind of wanted to try a campaign run like this and it will be on the one weekday I can do that. I'll work on something soon.

Will we be required to use Voice Chat? I'm not exactly a fan of it as there tends to be a lot of attempts to talk over each other and I'd rather stick to typing.

That's not going to be a deal breaker for me, just a curiosity as it tends to be one voice eventually trying to speak over others far too often.

With the potential high player count, it really varies on what I might play. With 4 I'd be a bit more conservative and possibly just toss in a Slayer but when you have 6 players your combat capability isn't a necessity and allows for utility bards and the like to balance out the party and really buff and let others shine.

Definitely interested! Not entirely sure if I would necessarily go that way, but how do you feel about a Vigilante?

Silver Crusade

Just saw this now. Very definitely interested.

Silver Crusade

Wow, you're adopting lots of variant rules :-). Its going to be a completely different game from "normal" pathfinder, isn't it?

I'm still game to try. At least we're starting from level 1 and can learn the system bit by bit.

armor as DR really makes creatures that bypass it bloody deadly. Hope there are no ogres in the first couple of levels :-)

The optional rules listed in the OP are not final. Once a group is gathered together, we can then discuss which optional and variant rules from that list can be included.

Update: The sessions can be also held on Fridays sometime between 11am and 10pm EST. A final time slot will be determined by the players who can attend on either day.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

Someone had asked, but it wasn't answered, whether voice chat is required.

Voice chat is not required. It will be in text. I am deaf but I have run campaigns in past over IRC.

Silver Crusade

Right, I've got the basics of my character. Some details may change a little and the background will probably get considerably more detailed if a Players Handbook comes out and/or when the GM gives us some more information on people we should be working with (after he's read the first book of the Adventure Path :-). I kinda understand why he can't do that yet :-)). Still have to flesh out some things like purchases.

I can play Wednesday afternoons (EST) or Fridays morning through mid afternoon (ending by about 4 pm or so)

This may not be the best venue for advertising, btw. Its intended primarily for PBP games and you're going to be running what is essentially a roll 20 weekly game. You might want to consider using the Pathfinder Discord channel.

Summary - Pacus Bursio is a 1/2 Orc (Skilled Overlooked Mastermind) Courtly Hunter with his young tigress companion Angela. He is MUCH more than he appears to be on first inspection.

Background:

The Bursio family has a deep, dark secret and Pacus bears the visible evidence of that secret. At some forgotten point in the past some Orcish blood made it into the family veins and sometimes this blood becomes visible. Fortunately for Pacus the visible evidence is quite faint and fairly easily concealed. Unlike some of his ancestors he has been allowed to participate in public life although, until recently, only in fairly controlled circumstances.

A fairly minor family the Bursio have land holdings scattered throughout Taldor. Pacus spent much of his youth secluded from notice up near the Verdurun forest. Although he is NOT a druid he did make some friends amongst the druids there and he agrees with their goals with respect to keeping the forest protected.

It was within the forest that he became friends with Angela, a young tigress who is also far more than she appears at first blush.

Tired of living a life of seclusion, Pacus has recently come to Oppara. Not wishing to embarrass his family he has adopted an alternate identity as a more bestial half Orc named Pok. As Pok he has found employment as a bodyguard for [Need input on who is reasonable]. As Pacus he is a minor patron of the arts, a minor noble seeking knighthood, a sophisticated man. As Pok, he is a dumb, stupid, brutal half orc who sometimes seems remarkably percpetive and who can occassionally find the right halting language to change a persons mind.

It is only as Pok that he openly has a tiger as a companion (when he hits second level Pacus will, of course, have a cat as a pet).

Note - Although he has two identities he is very much NOT a vigilante and it all has no mechanical effect and is all handled by his disguise skill

Personality:

In both identities he is a fairly cheerful, reasonably moral person who tries to do good when it is convenient. He is pleasant and basically a "nice" person. He likes both animals and children and cannot abide anybody who abuses either

As Pacus he is well spoken and moderately well educated and is obviously at least of somewhat noble birth.

As Poc he speaks in the short sentence fragments of somebody who is clearly mentally challenged. Although he dotes on Angela

Thanks for letting me know and posting your character as well. Don't forget about the rumors I mentioned for other PCs to know about. (just don't tell them which one is false).

Also, I have two someones who don't have profiles here interested in doing a Cavalier either of human, half-elf, or aasimar and a Paladin or similar of an unspecified race.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

Bouncing ideas around just now in my head, can't quite decide on a concept. Likely some type of charisma based character, leaning towards half-elf, aasimar, or some kind of geniekin. Not sure what exactly I'll come up with just yet. If others have an idea of what they want to play I might try to build something to fill in a niche that isn't covered.

I'm good for either time/date. I'd prefer Wednesdays to be honest just because for the next couple of months there will be at least one Friday a Month that I will for sure have to miss.

I'm more comfortable honestly through simply typing. I think it works well for tabletop, and prevents people from talking over each other so I'll be game for a type only table.

I kinda wanna reserve my settling down of concepts till I get the Player's Guide in hand, I like reading a bit more than titles and a summary to get the feel of what I'd play.

I'd definitely prefer a normal audio table to one with just typing. It will go much faster.

While I agree talking over people can be an issue so can people not paying attention as a turn takes awhile. The latter will get worse with a type only table

Vakr wrote:

Missed this. Note to self and to everybody else, this requirement almost requires you to send a lot of your character directly to the GM as otherwise which rumours are which will be rather obvious.

@GM - I'll change my back story somewhat and then come up with some rumours for others. Also, is the background sufficient or are you looking for more depth?

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

Yeah, getting an idea of what is in the PG is a wise idea before finalizing a concept, but I want to get something roughed out that I think will work ahead of time and polish it off then. Starting to get an idea that I like now, gonna flesh it out a bit the next several days.

As for game times the only one I can do, as I mentioned to our GM in email, is the Wednesday one since I work 10 hour shifts the other weekdays. That being said I could potentially do an occasional weekend game as well if we needed to for some reason.

Thanks for chiming in you guys. You can discuss character ideas, but character sheets will not be final until we start the session. So plenty of time to brainstorm and to wait for the player's guide to come out.

@pauljathome I'm deaf so typing is pretty much a given especially while in sessions. I don't mind if the party talk over a voice channel for out of character chat.

Silver Crusade

@Vakr - righto then :-). That is a pretty darn good reason to have typing be the required method of communication, one that is pretty hard to argue with :-)

Slightly changed character. This time, without spoilers :-)

Summary is still the same. Pacus Bursio is a 1/2 Orc Courtly Hunter.

Public Background:

Pacus is the second son of a fairly well off family, a family located in the north of Taldor near to the Verduran Forest.

Although it is not particularly noticeable and can be fairly easily concealed he is a half orc. Somewhere hidden in his mothers ancestry is, obviously, orcish blood.

Not at all surprisingly, the Bursio family has not been eager to let their friends and neighbours know of what they see as a stain upon their family honour. Whenever Pacus was allowed to mingle with his peers he always had to disguise himself as human and was never allowed to stay long enough that his disguise would become noticed.

Left largely isolated by his family Pacus spent considerable time with his uncle Dinius, a recluse who lived in the Verduran forest. On a recent trip there he met Angela, a young tigress, and they became firm friends.

No longer content to live such a sheltered life Pacus has struck a deal with his family. They used their connections to get him a job as a bodyguard with <Waiting for Guide for Identity> in Oppara, a city that his family and their friends almost never visit. In turn, Pacus agreed to not use his family name or crest except where absolutely necessary and, when in the north, to conceal his identity as a half orc to the greatest extent possible.

It is well known by <fellow workers for whoever> that he is a half orc. When it is convenient he accentuates his Orcish features and goes by the name of Pac. When convenient, he conceals his Orcish features and passes for human and goes by the name of Pacus. He isn't trying to conceal anything from his fellow employees and they all know who he is. It is just that sometimes a large threatening half orc with no apparent social graces is effective, sometimes a more polished human with good social graces is more effective.

Personality:

He is a fairly cheerful, reasonably moral person who tries to do good when it is convenient. He is pleasant and basically a "nice" person. He likes both animals and children and cannot abide anybody who abuses either. He dotes on Angela

As Pacus he is well spoken and is obviously of gentle birth. He is, however, still somewhat slow intellectually and not very well educated.

As Pac he speaks in the short sentence fragments of somebody who is clearly mentally challenged.

Appearance:

Pacus is a good looking, well dressed man usually wearing armour and carrying several weapons. He has a well groomed beard and mustache. Whenever socially acceptable he tends to wear a hat.

Pac is often also dressed in good clothing but of a far gaudier bent than Pacus. He has a beard and mustache that are somewhat wild and poorly tended. He drools a little at times, showing his small fangs. His clothing accentuates his slight green colour.

Angela generally wears leather barding entwined with ribbons and streamers. She is a good looking specimen of her species with bright, mischevous eyes.

Rumours. Note, there may be a little truth in the false rumours and the basically true ones may not be completely correct. That just seems much more realistic to me :-)

1)There is a LOT more to Angela than meets the eye. Some say that she is Pacus's dead sister reincarnated, some say that she is some outsider in animal guise.

2) Pacus has been disowned by his family due to his killing his sister. Some say it was an accident, some say that it was deliberate murder.

3) Pacus is a spy for some foreign interest. Possibly for the Orcs of the Gouged Eye Tribe. After all, an Orc is an Orc.

4) Pacus is actually of noble blood and not merely a member of the gentry. He stands to inherit a great estate and a great title.

5) Pacus is far smarter than he likes to appear. It doesn't pay to underestimate him

Bouncing between two ideas just now, trying to decide which to go with. Maybe I'll developed both and see if one inspires me more than the other.

@Vakr, I'm wanting to play test a custom archetype/class called the Studied Summoner. It drops the Ediolon in favor of focusing on the SLA Summons ability. It changes the primary casting stat to Intelligence and makes the class a Prep caster with a spellbook. The class is limited on how many active summons it can use (It can't have 2 active summons till level 8) and patches some of the more annoying aspects of summon monster (Such as abuse of actions per round).

The real meat is the Spell Laced Summons class feature that turns the SLA Summons back to a 1 Round action which brings the Summons in with a free buff cast on them from the casters prepped spells (A failed concentration check blows both the SLA usage and the prepped spell).

Anyways, take a look and if it's okay with you, I'll put together an application with the class.

Homebrew/custom isn't allowed for this campaign, I'm sorry to say.

Roster so far
pauljathome - Half Orc Hunter
Vitaliano da Riva
Drogeney
Daniel Stewart

From Giant in the Playground
Kallimakus- thinking Paladin possibly

Nikos - thinking Cavalier either of human, half-elf, or aasimar

Fair enough, everyone have a great time and a fun campaign!

Scarab Sages

I would love to play War for the Crown! So many character ideas! There's quite bit of stuff for characters that is very Taldor specific, but there's never been an AP to fit them into, rondolero duelists, Lion Blades, Ulfen Guard, etc.

I even prefer text-only games on Roll20. They're better for RP in my opinion.

Unfortunately I'm only free if the game is on Friday, not Wednesday.

I'll throw my hat in if the game will be on Fridays.

A lot depends on the Player's Guide of course, but right now my three main character ideas are:

1. An elf from Kyonin. A trained, professional diplomat who is meant to be the right hand of an ambassador. While the ambassador shakes hands and works the social world, she's the executive assistant/valet/fixer who gets the intelligence work and underhanded stuff done. Probably a standard Inspired Blade/Empiricist Swashtigator.

2. An aspirant or brand new recruit into the Ulfen Guard. Probably a Viking archetype Fighter, maybe the Ulfen Guard PrC later on. I haven't looked at this one much build-wise.

3. A Callow May Changeling (if that would be permitted) Intrigue Mystery Oracle who works for the Verduran Forest Druids. She keeps tabs on developments in Oppara related to the Verduran for the Druids, and does whatever she needs to to strengthen their influence in politics in the capital.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

The two concepts I'm working on right now:

1.) Taking some inspiration from the Batards of Golarian book I'm looking at the Idol concept. Considering bard/sorcerer/oracle/mesmerist for classes and maybe ashavic dancer in the future. She is very well known but very shy, not liking the spotlight but doing her best to live up to the expectations of others.

2.) A character I started to build for a campaign a few years ago but never really used who is based off of HM Murdok from the A-Team. Not sure on what class I'd make him but he's a concept that might fit and be very useful if done right from what I've read of the blurbs on the various books.

Leaning towards the first concept a little more since she's more well defined in my mind but I'll probably wait until we get the PG like several others before making a decision.

Scarab Sages

The Players Guide is going to be delayed a little.

My submission for consideration:

Ehli, The Runaway Idol
Class Sorcerer
Specialties Enchantment, Illusion, Transmutation

Public Background:

Ehli was unheard of in the city of Oppara until about two years ago. No one Is quite sure where she came from but she simply appeared at the Temple of the Upheld and Golden Rose one day and took up residents. While she hasn’t studied to be a part of the clergy she performs dances in honor of Shelyn and for the entertainment of the visitors and uses what tips she gets for her spending money. She is rich but she gets by, occasionally taking the odd job as a waitress or performer. She has quite a few admirers and any number of suitors but she always turns them down after only a few dates.

Description:
Ehli is a short and lithe young woman standing about five feet tall with long lustrous black hair that falls to her waist. She is well endowed for her build and has sharply slanted eyes at the outer corners that imply a recent ancestry from Tian Xia though her accent is definitely Varisian. Her eyes are an exotic dark amber color, her skin pale, and she prefers loose fitting and slightly revealing clothing of red silk with white fur trimming. She carries no visible weapons but does have a pouch that is easily recognizable as a spellcaster component pouch and a pair of soft leather boots with a slight heel to them reaching to mid calf.

Personality:
Ehli is a rather shy young woman who keeps mostly to herself and speaks little of her past. When people draw her out and she becomes comfortable with them she can be quite the tease and prankster but she never seems to open up fully to them. It seems that she always expects people to demand too much of her and tends to flee when she thinks they are about to try and make demands or requests of her. The only time she truly lets herself go is when she dances, her performances have an uncanny grace to them and a wildness that seems to linger deep in her soul.

Rumors:

Good
1.) Ehli is rumored to be an only child who was orphaned and found a way to survive alone from a young age until she took up residence at the Temple of the Upheld and Golden Rose in Oppara.
2.) Ehli occasionally performs and volunteers at orphanages around the city to try and cheer up the children there and give them a bright spot in their lives.
3.) Ehli is a prankster who misdirects people with illusions when they try to take her up on her offers.
4.) It is rumored that Ehli is on the run from some one who wants to hurt her after she attacked him.
5.) Ehli is rumored to be something other than what she seems according to a drunkard across town.

Thank you, rdknight, for informing us about the delay on player's guide.

Drogency. Good writeup!

Sovereign Court

Hey Drogeney! I've been waffling on whether to apply to this game. You wanna tag-team?

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

I'm willing to consider it, what did you have in mind?

Sovereign Court

Drogeney:
You already know me as the player of Azura, Yasmin, and Johara.
I was thinking something more fightery, maybe a steelbound fighter? Human of Taldan heritage who starts out pragmatic but finds him or herself increasingly pushed into trying to reform or rebuild the Empire from its collapsing culture.
Alternatively maybe a Calistrian cleric who doesn't give a damn and is just living through the chaos of the Empire in turmoil and using that as an opportunity to fulfill personal goals and whimsically torment enemies.

Calistrian? That would fit right in the nobility society of Taldor. ;)

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

Ah, I wondered if we played together. Sure, though they would have met after I arrived in Oppara or on the ship here soooo, in the last two years or so.

Sovereign Court

Oof, I only just realized this is a scheduled game rather than a PBP game. I can't commit to Wednesday afternoon-evening, sorry. :/

Dark Archive

Is this still open? Thinking a cleric.

rdknight and TheChelaxian, which day do you prefer? Wednesday night as detailed in first post or Friday sometime between 11am and 10pm EST?

Dark Archive

Either works for me, but if you need a decision I'd say Wednesdays.

Scarab Sages

I can only do it on Friday. I'm on Pacific time so the latter portion of the time window is better for me considering 11am EST is 8am here.

Silver Crusade

Vakr wrote:

Uh, Wednesday night? Your first post said Wednesday afternoon (2 - 5 pm EST).

I'm not available Wednesday night. I am available Wednesday afternoon and Friday late morning through mid afternoon (up until 3:30 or so)

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

I suspect that saying night might have been a slip of the tongue...er fingers...

Okay, I have come to a decision. I will be running two groups no more than 4 players each.

One will be the ones who can only do or want to do Wednesday Afternoon (EST).
And the other group who want or can do only Fridays.

I would be running each group on alternating weeks, for biweekly sessions for both.

I have Drogeney, Daniel Stewart, TheChelexian and one more for Wednesday afternoon(EST) as preferences or can only play.

For Fridays, I have pauljathome, rdknight, and one more.

Vitaliano da Riva, you mentioned you would not be able to attend one Friday a month. Considering that it will be a biweekly session, is this doable depending on the dates?

Everyone, please, chimes in about the arrangements.

So, as far as what days I wouldn't be able to do. Specifically, I will be working for two different anime conventions on Friday March 16th and Friday May 4th.

Apart from that, I should have no issues for any other Friday unless something medical or the like comes up and of course I will do my best to inform in such events.

So I think it should be doable enough?

It should be doable. :)

Scarab Sages

I'm in for Friday yes. How long are you planning for each session to run? Alternate weeks are fine with me.

Vakr, you had mentioned a possible player or two coming from elsewhere I think. Is that still the case?

If we end up a little short on players, say three, would you consider running the reduced number using gestalt PCs? With the reduction in action economy, 3 gestalt characters are about the same as 4-5 regular depending on the specifics of what's compared. It's also a good way to encourage taking archetypes and prestige classes that would be nice to see in this AP, like Lion Blades, that otherwise won't likely be affordable since the small party has to cover fundamentals first.

Now, I have four interested each for Wednesday and Friday.
I am planning on three hours for the sessions.

Silver Crusade

Friday is fine with me

Dark Archive

What are the Wednesday players planning on running? I'm planning on a cleric, but I can role-fill if needed.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

For the Wednesday group I have a sorceress who will be focusing on enchantment, illusion, and transmutation with a little bit of other things mixed in.
