Its a Big Galaxy!

Its a funny thing, but in a galaxy full of stars, instead of creating our own setting, we could just create a star system instead and stick it into the Starfinder Galaxy and outline how it interacts with the Pact finder worlds and other official materials.

All settings are game! As you said, The Galaxy is way big! Start off with your own star system and go from there. I like the trope of waking up out of cryo in a giant space hulk from parts unknown.
Is there a Starfinder Galaxy map? Besides a few settings, how many rpg galaxy map are there?

That's sort of what I'm doing. I'm converting Jade Regent into Starfinder, with the caravan being replaced by a BattleStar Galactica type refugee fleet. (And maybe we'll actually have a second session, but my group can be erratic.) I'm just making it several systems, and only need to come up with some reason why they can't just ride a drift beacon back to the Pact Worlds (beyond "big nasties can follow us back there, and the Pact Worlds can't fight off ANOTHER invasion").

Break the drift engine? Make the ship use some other means of FTL-travel? Or just use some kind of strange magical disturbance that obscures the Absolom Station beacon, or possibly interferes with all Drift Beacons and makes longer jumps unaccurate/dangerous?

And then again, if the characters are not Pact World -aware, even if they could jump to Absolom Station their people might think the Signals origin is a wormhole/star/something dangerous and for that reason they just don't want to jump there. There might be some expeditions sent but since the return trip would take years no-one has ever returned and the people think they died or were destroyed.

well... it used to be that trade from the Jade Space Empire was infrequent such as it was, but it was done, and there was commerce.

AND THEN the Jade Space Regent came along, and took over. And he sent oni devils into the Drift and shut down all the Drift beacons... and the Jade Space Empire was isolated from the rest of the Vast.

Now, the PCs have to navigate along the cold outer edge of the galaxy, following ancient drift beacons WHICH MAY PREDATE TRIUNE AND THE GAP to enter the Jade Space Empire and put whateverherspacename is on the throne.

A campaign in which the PCs play experienced Starfinder trapped on the wrong side of space, cut off from their beloved Pact Worlds, could be VERY interesting.

I refer to, of course, the Scoured Stars incident. Literally everything on the other side could be your homebrewed campaign.

Right now you have a frontier system that was not settled from the Pact Worlds, despite being of similar makeup. Vast colony ships still drift among the stations and habitats, but the travel happened during the Gap, so no one really knows where they came from, and they've gradually been stripped of useful technology.

Then the Oni send their minions to find something on the ship... And a friend/fence for the PCs turns out to be a direct descendant of the leader of the colony fleet...

I'm thinking that the Oni, given their... issues with other planes, are not able to enter the Drift, even if they're on a ship that can. So they need to send minions, advance scouts, to set up their own beacons to instantly teleport to the destination with their powers.

"Life here did not begin in the Pact Worlds, it began somewhere out there, in the Vast. And we mean to reclaim it."

We'll see how things develop, how the PCs respond to motivation...

I found a very "big picture" Galaxy map! https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=42784.
Not sure what type of game these dudes are playing but the map is top notch. The tiniest square is 200 light years. I picked a nice star system far off any galactic corridor. I'm on Mystara. So I picked Threshold (Beta;MK3353). Still trying to place Golarian and other settings.

Wow! I haven't played Nationstates in years. I kind of assumed it was long gone. It's kind of a political game a la model UN, or at least it was.

That map, though, I can't get it to work. When I click on the actual map link I get a 404 from deviantart. Do you have a direct working link to the map?

Anyone remember this gem?

Star Drive

I do (and still own it).

Hmmm.

If you took a couple dozen campaigns across the internet and declared them all taking place in the same galaxy, you could create a huge campaign setting. They may never interact with each other, but still. Anytime anyone visits a new system, just add it to the map. You could retrace each others footsteps, and visit the ruins left by another group using another GMs notes. You could split up the work generating the details on huge hub planets. And anytime you need some background action, write a news story about the events of another campaign.

I didn't get the picture from that site. I downloaded it off Google. I was looking for scale and came to that site. Now it seems to hard to find.

I liked Star Drive, somewhat, and still have a bunch of books for it. I think it suffered a bit from trying to be too "sandbox of everything" in a really artificial manner. Most of the stellar nations felt a little too cardboard stereotype.

( Also, seriously, did Microsoft brick is computer partway through writing the game? Voidcorp felt like somebody had a *serious* grudge. )

It was a nice idea overall, and a good box of tools to build your own setting, but it couldn't compare with Dark*Matter for setting design. That one still is arguably the best written conspiracy setting sourcebook ever.

I got a Grim n Gritty Merc setting in mind with Pathfinder classes and Races. A nice cluster of star clusters rich with possibilities. A thousand races! Get your templates out! The cool thing about this map is it is literally 100,000 lys across. So easy to jump back and forth from one setting to another.

I can't say it's my favorite, but Alternity was a pretty solid game from start to finish.

And I love the Klicks.
