Jeff,

I'll give it a shot for a time but I do agree the time jumping...not a fan. The good news is Thor has a golden arm now. :)

I'm honestly kind of irritated to see that picture before the finale of the Thor series is out and I'm not usually one to be bothered by spoilers.

Eh. It's just an arm, Jeff....

Lowfyr,

Uhm no that's still in there. Just Loki fixed magic so it's less fragile than it was.

Sorry to hear that. But since they tend to ignore it in other comics I hope it is not long until they do away with it^^

Low,

They might but considering what just happened in Strange in Damnation, you might want to re-think that.

I have to look into that now^^

The problem is simply that they should work something out to limit a magic user other than any spell having dire consequences. I mean books like the Dresden Files manage that just fine.

They should stop seeing Magic as the ultimate problem solver and more like a power that has limits.

Low,

Not everyone sees magic the same way we do. But then again we're used to being hemmed in by GMs. :p

So now for our daily update:

In one of the weirder crossovers that I didn't know about but explains EVERYTHING, Incredible Hulk AND Infinity Countdown Prime #1 both explain (though the former moreso than the latter) how Sakaar came back.

Also from managing expectations: While we will get Adam Warlock trying to find the Soul Stone/Gem, The Magus WILL not be appears...due to Ultron-fist sized hole in the chest. So yeah... Pym-tron is in play folks! Oh and apparently now TURK! (yes that Turk, the one that's been in ALL the Netflix MCU stuff) has the mind stone. Serious?!! SERIOUSLY?!!

The Death of Thor came one more step closer, but what it means for stopping Mangog who pretty much tore through stuff (and gods) like it was paper, not sure. But at least Jane Foster will go down fighting.

Damnation shows us WHY resurrection spells are tricky and if you do it wrong, there's not just Hell to pay, there's Mesphisto running a gambling joint.

Daredevil tries to stop Fisk from pushing Muse's buttons, but instead gets someone else to push it for him.

Both Defenders and Luke Cage end their runs; I liked the ending better for Luke's than I did Defenders.

Black Panther's Annual had some very good moments, but I still prefer more movement on the Coate's storyline front.

Avengers gives us Voyager's back story along with the team gaining insights about who's running the show. Plus Hawkeye! (not the good one though.)

Spidey deals with his new job, along with the burgeoning heroics of Flash Thompson as Anti-Venom. Norman and Carnage have a heart to heart.

Kid Kaji learns the importance of communication while being on the Moon with Karnak AND also meets up with a Technarch baby. Sure...THAT won't go badly.

The buddy action comedy of Hawkeye (the less good one) and Winter Soldier try to figure the Red Room's agenda and also ANOTHER person dies. Seriously, if you're going kill ALL these characters, why not Hawkeye?!

Now for our X-men portion of reviews:

Astonishing shows us while Proteus has evolved in his thinking, he's still pretty much a dick. Though to be fair I think former Charles Xavier aka X MIGHT have jumped the gun on trying to stop it. That ending...EWWWW!!!

Generation X ends it run with fixing Monet and giving us a shine about the future X-men. (I still think Eye Boy is the best under used mutant.)

And Venom showcases both the X-men, Symbiotes and Poisons at the end. I really didn't like Venomverse. Not sure I'll care much for seeing more of these guys. Plus side, the X-men MIGHT get to rescue time displaced younger Cyclops Dad before he gets sold to the Brood.

Here endeth the review.

SO how do people like me doing a daily update? Is it good, bad, indifferent, less spoilers?

I'll admit I'm curious to see what Marvel has planned with Bendis gone. There are a lot of things I'm looking at comeing down the pipe that I have to admit look good to me

like this Fantastic Four thing. I am digging the idea that their powers are linked. It's one of those additions that just kind of feels right.

I guess.

If you ignore all the other times they've been broken up or separated or in different universes or some have been depowered over the years.

Right now I'm curious if they'll keep giving She-hulk more mass/strength while Bruce is running around doing this whole "Monster at Night" thing.

Exactly. Ben didn't seem to be any less powerful when he spent something like a year on the odd jigsaw planet. They weren't weaker when Johnny was "dead" in the Negative Zone, or when Ben was dead.

And are Reed and Sue likewise losing their powers?

from what I understand it's only multiverse distance that matters. So as long as they are in 616 they are fine, Negaverse might even be fine seeing as it's simply part of the 616 cosmology.

Right now Reed and Sue are ... Not even really sure where it is they are, the void between universes I think.

They're off in the Fiji Universe while Valeria and Franklin are trolling the multiverse.

Right now I'm happy that Voyager has proven she's not a founding Avenger. No idea who she really is, but eh. Unless...it's Loki!?!

Anyways that and at least Logan was smart enough to not keep the Space Gem/Stone.

Well okay then! Not Loki! But now we get to see Hulk undying or something. Sort of. Still think Rogue and/or Lightning could have stopped him...for a bit. Regardless, new player on the field!

Note to self, never let a half crazed reality warping Teenager let you give powers to normal humans and/or access to the Astral Plane.

Vampires in Brooklyn! Someone get blade on the horn! You know, since it's his schtick and not say, Misty's or Sam's.

Really though I still don't get WHY Stephen couldn't have been rescued by Wanda, Loki and Clea to help clean up this mess.

Plus side though, Ben is ready to kick butt for goodness! And you know with a cement truck.

So Hulk's new side apparently isn't as dumb as he used to be. But at least he's not willing to play ball with the Challenger.

Also Jane Foster can die sure, but how the hell does Mjolnir NOT survive being tossed into the Sun?! I mean it survived worse than that hasn't it?!!

I have to assume it wasn't REALLY Mjolnir. Too many retcons to make it completely different then what we've always been told... I assume it really WAS something different then we've always seen.

After all, the whole Mother Storm, hammer deciding worthiness, Odin with no control over it... All that flys straight in the face of Stormbringer which is supposed to be EXACTLY the same as Mjolnir in all ways and enchantments.

And yeah... It was forged from a dying sun... why would going through the sun destroy it??

Well, I'd assume it's actually intended to be Mjolnir (not the first time the origins have been retconned), but those are big enough holes to allow someone in the future to retcon it to not be Mew-mew when they want to bring it back.

Dying sun not as hot as the sun it was thrown into?

Whatever makes an artifact can unmake it? Worked for the One Ring.

Damon,

The One Ring didn't knock Galactus into next week...

But fair point about artifacts in general.

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2018/04/17/x-men-quits-x-men-gold-31/

And once again proof that certain writers do not get some characters. Or in this case all of them. Get her to a series with a writer that can do that please. Team-up with Kitty and Ilyana would be great. If the next big shake-up just stops Gold, it would be well worth it^^

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yeah it's just not jiving for me as much as Astonishing is or even the All New Wolverine. Though I heard she's going back to X-23 soon.

Meanwhile at least the Poisons have proven to be...unworthy. ;)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Gold is for me the weakest of the X-men ongoings. At first I thought it could be great with some of my favourite characters in it. But after a few issues it showed that the writer is playing it too save and does not get the characters.

X-23 starts in July I think. As I loved All-new Wolverine I hope the new writer does not change too much. But it is not Bendis, so I am hopeful in that regard^^

Right now if I had a pick my favorite X book from the current crop, I think Red has the best chance to be enjoyable. Blue has some moments...but only when they don't focus on Original 5 that are time displaced.

Red has its moments^^

And I must say I am still surprised how much I liked the O5. At first I thought Bendis has lost it but reading all-new x-men and uncanny it was an entertaining read.

Agreed. One of those things I thought was a stupid idea, or at best a short term gimmick, but that I actually wound up liking a lot.

Kitty, IMO, has been a terrible 'best friend' to both Ilyanna and Rachel, both of whom, again, IMO, should say to heck with her and go off and have cool space/time/dimension-hopping adventures together, while throwing shade at Kitty behind her back.

Set,

I dunno. I mean Kitty has had it rough of late. I mean being intangible for that long, and now she's ready to get married. I'm not saying Rachel and Ilyana don't deserve to do that...I just don't see that helping either of them.

Also, Scarlet Witch did the opposite of No more Mutants in the most epic way possible and everyone liked it. Well I did anyway...

yeah, I enjoyed it quite a bit, but thought it had a serious shelf life that it outlived. When they were running around in the original costumes trying to make sense of the world around them and having the two cyclops' staring each other down... and eager to be the HEROES that the modern age mutants had forgotten how to be...

Man I LOVED that Book!

About the time they switched costumed, Joined old cyclops' evil brotherhood and abandoned their original costumes for that UGGGLY redesign it had run its course. Sometime around Battle of the Atom when they were throwing temper tantrums because nobody was allowed to tell them not threaten all of space and time... because PERSONAL FREEDOM!!!!! I washed my hands of it.

I think it felt like it was a fantastic story that was great for a couple arcs... but then became TOO popular and they couldn't wrap it up how they planned...

Dark Archive

My favorite things about the 05's run were the developments of Evan Sabah Nur and Idie, neither of whom I'd come into it expecting to love, and the development of teen Cyclops, who carried a sort of earnestness I'd missed in the older world-wearied soldier/general adult Cyclops.

Teen Hank and teen Warren just made me long for some sort of redemptive story-arc / development of adult Hank and Warren...

Teen Bobby's arc just kind of mirrored his adult versions arc, which was kind of neat, yet also surreal. Ah, comics! Compared to experimenting with magic and turning oneself into a demon (teen Hank) or growing cosmic fire wings and dating a Wolverine (teen Warren), having a time-displaced teenage version of yourself tell you it's okay to be gay is surprisingly not as dramatic...

I always liked Evan. I'm glad he's gotten fleshed out. Idie is cool too. But otherwise I wasn't that keen on 05 honestly. Regardless, now that No Surrender is basically over, I'm looking forward to seeing how the next Avengers arc pans out.

That and how they get Mephisto to say "No" to Vegas.

I could live with that^^

But Magik joining Red would be nice too, because her not in a series just gives writers the wrong kind of ideas. And put Rachel in Blue if that continiues with the new team.

Low,

Right now it looks like they're turning Rachel into a Hound...again. So not sure Blue is the best fit either.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Than the writer of Blue would just have to reverse that. Reversing stuff after changing the writer is not exactly a new idea^^

If Rachel goes out of Gold and into limbo, I would like to know what the point of this mess was. The writer handeled her like he did not know what to do with her. And I hoped that she would get back into the spotlight with this:(

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think the whole idea of her having a NEW codename along with the fact there wasn't any real...agenda for this team made me question why we had Gold. So yeah I hope if she does go somewhere, it's either Blue or Exiles.

Scarab Sages

Remember that she is from an alternate future, so she doesn't exactly fit in this universe.
I think she would fit more with the exiles who also come from different timelines.

Speaking of Kitty.
Since they have never mentioned it after the universe was restored, I am guessing she lost her cosmic powers like Gamora and Groot did.
Which begs the question, why does the younger Angel still have his?

If they can fit Miles Morales in this universe, there should be no problem with Rachel. She just needs a writer, who can look past the usual tropes that are used too much with her. I mean if Jean Grey can get past the phoenix there is still hope for Rachel^^

Regarding Angel: perhaps he does not uses so much and it will last longer?

Or the most likley explaination is simply that the writers are not talking to each other about the power up^^

I think the writers do talk to each other...is just the editors haven't made up their minds about why the cosmic power went away for everyone EXCEPT Angel.

Kind of like the Inversion thingie.

Also YAY!! Jane Foster isn't dead! But so long God Tempest. Also maybe Unworthy Thor might get back to be worthy. Maybe.

Yeah, I totally believe that the God Tempest just went away and isn't lurking around inside of Jane Foster... :)

It's interesting that Valhalla is kind of unspoiled, given that it's traditionally part of Asgard, and Asgard is Toasty McRuins.

Set,

Well I think after the last couple Ragnaroks, it probably got split off...

But we'll see about God Tempest and Jane Foster. Moreover I'm just annoyed at the destruction of Mjolnir. I mean a freaking SUN!?! Jason Aaron I expected BETTER of you.

So anyone have any idea whether or not these Dark Celestials MIGHT be related to the Aspirants and/or if the bug monsters MIGHT be the Horde thingie from MUCH longer ago?

I guess the Dreaming Celestial and the Celestial who created the Black Vortex aren't the only bad ones there are.

Charles,

Well one of them looks like a Grim Reaper...but I wasn't aware the Dreaming Celestial WAS bad. The other one just was being a dick in my view. In any case, evil celestials are rare but I guess happen when the First Firmament didn't want other life around it.

From Wikipedia:
The Dreaming Celestial: Originally known as Tiamut the Communicator; a renegade Celestial.

The Black Vortex Celestial's name hasn't been given, but Wikipedia gives this one that appeared in Marvel Legacy #1:
The Fallen: A deranged Celestial that came to Earth during the Stone Age, apparently searching for something.

Renegade isn't the same thing as evil. I can be renegade for wanting more paladins in my life! :p

But yes the Fallen is clearly evil or at least sick in some way.

I didn't say evil, just bad.

Eh... Anyways we'll debate this more once Avengers #2 comes out.

I can't say much about Deadpool 300...mostly because I don't think Deadpool remembers it.

Also, these one shot titles about Wolverine are REALLY weird. But hey I guess getting Danielle Cage's DNA is pretty worth it...

So the last Jane Foster Thor comic ends with some questions and me going "Really Malkeith? You think you and your meager lot of giants and trolls can destroy Earth? Dude, THANOS couldn't and he had more pull than you. Go back to chasing light elves."

Also Avengers #2 shows us that Loki is an Avenger...just not for us.

So Cho isn't the Hulk but he's still gamma powered apparently. Which is still pretty weird.

I was hoping this issue might clear up why Jen Walters is Super hulking out...but no.

Oh and 600 of Iron Man and #5 of SHIELD were good.
