What Are the Other Divinities Up to?

General Discussion

I read the section on the gods and it got me thinking "What are the divinities up to?"

So, come my children let us speculate!

To start: Erastil.

I could still see him being worshiped by first wave colonists and maybe in places with a strong farming or agrarian focus. The tools might have changed but the job hasn't.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, I imagine Erastil is still worshiped by agrarian groups and planets...those are just less of a major group than they once were.

Torag explicitly vanished with Golarion, as did Rovagug.

Lamashtu and Asmodeus are explicitly both around and top of their respective hierarchies (among Devils and Demons, respectively), just not as popular as some other Gods.

Calistria is also still around, and primary deity of the Elves, the Elves have just gotten super insular and paranoid.

Shelyn is explicitly noted as away looking for a cure for her brother's...condition. Though she does still answer prayers and the like, albeit in a somewhat distant fashion.

Gozreh is a very 'on planet' sort of deity, and thus, like Erastil, probably still worshiped but not as popularly.

Norgorber, Cayden Cailean, Irori and Nethys were all mortals on Golarion before becoming Gods. They're likely still around, just less worshiped than the core 20 due to the race mixture being quite different, and those Gods apparently not appealing to those other races as much as the ones that still are in the top 20.

I have no idea what's up with Gorum. Maybe he died in battle or something.

I read the Lao Shu Po entry and considering her portfolio, the idea that maybe the dead god she ate was Norgorber.

Liberty's Edge

Nah, Lao Shu Po is one of the Core 20 deities of Tian Xia in Pathfinder, which specifies which deity's corpse she fed on (it's Tsukiyo, who was later resurrected, btw).

I thoght she seemed familiar. Its been a while since I looked at my Tian-Xia stuff.

Never mind then.

And once again Cayden Cailean gets the shaft. He's hardly utilized in Pathfinder as it is which is disappointing in itself, really can't see what he'd be doing during Starfinder. Maybe if they actually played up more on his aspect of freedom instead of always regarding him as a divine drunk. Still think it would have made sense for him to be the god luck given how he attained his ascension.

Liberty's Edge

I like Cayden Cailean myself, but I have no major objection to him falling out of the top 20 Gods in Starfinder. You should still be able to worship him anyway, after all.

I suspect Erastil and Gozreh are probably fairly popular on Castrovel, since it's supposed to be largely still a wilderness, but they're also competing with Calistria there.

This is just me theorizing, but I wonder if Gorum hasn't picked up a significant following among the dwarves. He would be competing directly with Angradd, but his historic association not just with war, but with metal weapons and armor, might play well with dwarves, who are of course known for their smithing. More evil or chaotic dwarves especially might be drawn to him. Of course, half-orcs may still follow him disproportionately as well.

Apsu and Dahak are probably both important on Triaxus, but less so elsewhere.

Cayden got so drunk that he's started calling himself Weydan and altered his portfolio to include Travel specifically so he could find an excuse to roam around searching for more good booze.

Maybe Gozreh was the "on-planet" aspect of Ibra the whole time.

“Mind the Gap,” said Metaphysics,
A poesy avatar,
“Not all y’all gods and culture heroes,
Are gonna get this far.”

Cayden Cailean, drunk like usual,
Hoisted up his ale,
Then recalled his stalwart heart,
And for the stars set sail.

“Hey, wait a minute!” said Old Deadeye,
“I think I’ll come with you,
Farming families hunt the spaceways,
They’ll need my guidance, too.”

A god of battle, strength, and weapons,
Brandished his iron greatsword.
“Damoritosh’s too hard to say,”
He said, and jumped aboard.

“Now wait a minute, what’d I say?”
Metaphysics fumed.
“You lot are dead, kaput, finis!
You shall not be exhumed!”

A deep, rich laugh sounded then,
Gozreh wasn’t phased.
“I control the stellar wind,
Its particles and waves.”

“Talk to the hand,” said the perfect man,
And performed an impossible leap,
He bounded over Metaphysics,
Who landed in a heap.

“What the future needs is more ensorcellin’,
Some witchcraft and some hexes, too.”
Nethys stepped aboard the godcraft,
“I’ll navigate this crew.”

“You can’t all come!”
Cried the poetic device,
“Some were rejected,
For being not-so-nice!”

“Oh, did someone call me?”
Asked a black-masked reaper,
“When picking things to save,
Well, murder’s a keeper.”

And what rough beast came around then,
Wrathsome, disastrous, and bold?
Cap’n Cayden chug-a-lugged “Rovagug,
Old bean, you’ll ride in the hold.”

Hammer in hand and beard well-groomed,
With the engines the dwarf found his place,
Torag said, “I’m the Father of Creation,
I’ll show you a legacy race.”

Metaphysics finished, “I’ve had my say,
Sail away, you’ll lose this fight.”
The celestial crew answered with one voice.
“We’re gods, child, we’ll be all right.”

With Arshea, it's not a question of what they're doing but who. ;)

Me, I'm just happy they're getting a higher billing.

Man, what if Aroden returned and is the reason for the Gap and all its messiness. It was his disappearance that brought about the messiness of the Age of Lost Omen. What if the Age of Glory came a little late and those on Golarian are enjoying it while those outside are like "WTF!?"

I think that Aroden faked his death which lead to the Age of Lost Omen and when Pharasma found out the she had been tricked she went ballistic and blow up Golarion then the other gods made a deal with Asmodeus to make all sentient beings forget that Pharasma destroyed the planet thus the Gap. Meanwhile Aroden when he saw what had happened went mad and became the Devourer thus fulfilling the prophecy that he would become the Devourer. Which he tried to prevent by faking his own death.

yes I know that is a little convoluted but hey I am crazy.
let the flame wars begin.

*prepares Plate Mail for "Holy War" debate*

Nah. Aroden was so weak from his fight with the demons, he couldn't bring the Age of Glory to fruitation. Pharasma knew it wasn't his time to go yet and covered for him while he hid within the Eye to heal up for his return. While he was gone, the demons took advantage of this momentary lack of a guardian of the material world and created the World Wound and subtly corrupted the world.

Fast forward, Aroden has regained his strength, but to truly save the world from the corruption that has grown in his absence, he snatched Golarian away and thus the Gap and disappearance.

Pulls out Inner Sea Gods book. however it says that Iomedae inherited most of Aroden's followers. But we are mere mortals outside of the gods that are Paizo. So our theories are just that theories.
