Liberty's Edge 2/5

Hi, I am a PFS player and my Elven Ranger is on the cusp of seeker level. One scenario that I really wanted to play with him was the Elven Entanglement. I really wanted a Demon/Elven scenario. Does this scenario have Demons in it? Please no spoilers, but I want to know if his is the right one for me.

Thanks.

It has some good story for you, and it has a reputation for deadliness. Bring your A game!

It'll be perfect for you. Ran it for a friend's half-elf ranger who hates demons, he was super excited and terrified the whole time.

Demon-hating Elf, meet Elf-hating Demons.

It's a match made in Heaven Kyonin.

I was able to play my very first PFS character through this scenario as he was an Elven Druid from Jinin and enjoyed the thought of visiting the homeland.

Thanks! This will help a lot!

Alchemy ain't kidding. This scenario is not for the weak of heart. That said, I think you will find everything you are looking for. Solid story and CHALLENGING challenges. Remember...Bring your A game!

My wife and I retired our elven sword dancers on this one. We greatly enjoyed it!

I recommend that if your GM has not run this before already, you ask them to read the GM discussion posts. There are a couple of things that many people either misread or misunderstood right after it came out that have been discussed.

Thanks all! Lots of help. We didn't have too much f a tough time(With two Demon based Rangers and with all of our companions bringing 10 characters to the table, it wasn't as deadly as I would have liked). I dealt the Monster in the first encounter 105 damage to start, but without that we would have all died. Boss fight was a cakewalk. Now I'm wondering about other deadly scenarios(My Ranger is three away from Seeker).

Here were some I wanted to ask about being very good and very deadly.

Start with King of the Storval Stairs

The Sealed Gate

Go to Seeker with Where Mammoths Dare not Tread

Are these good ones? I just want to end on really deadly and challenging scenarios.

Thanks!

Sounds like a winning run. (Nothing will be deadly when you have 10 player tokens on the board.)

"If I hadn't thrown 100+ damage on the guy right at the start, we would have all died" doesn't exactly sound like a cake walk to me. Were you looking for multiple deaths during the scenario?

There are a couple bits that... let's say stretch the CR system a bit (especially in the high tier). Unless the party gets extremely lucky, has the perfect counter and gets normal lucky, or has it run weakly, the PCs are probably going to have a bad time there. When I played this, we had a cheesed-out archer (who is known to have had at least one illegal-in-PFS item), and we forgot a restriction on our caster's spells, so it didn't go quite as badly as it should have.

I just saw a PBP of this that had three deaths (including one guy who died twice and got raised mid-scenario.) They ended up with 3/4 of the party below 0HP, and the GM was slightly softballing that encounter. There's another encounter where you'd better have the counter or you're probably dead. Oh, and the scenario has a hard-mode option that makes it more unfair.

He said the boss fight was a cakewalk, not the first one. ;)

All of those were fun scenarios. Storval Stairs is the only one that I found to be too difficult. Entanglement and Gate were dangerous, and I can see things going badly if the party gets unlucky. They both have a common element that ups the danger.

Elven Entanglement and Sealed Gate:
Namely dropping you into an immediate fight, potentially with a surprise round, with dangerous enemies.

I didn’t find Mammoth nearly on the difficulty level of the others. It was still a lot of fun, though.

5/5 *****

Storval Stairs is only really difficult if you try to brute force your way through. With a couple of competent casters who come reasonably well prepared it is much easier.

If looking at potentially challenging 7-11's I would consider Below the Silver Tarn (with no more than 4 PCs), Fate of the Fiend, Of Kirin and Kraken, Returned to Sky or Waking Rune on hard mode as well as Sealed Gate.

Mammoths can be challenging but that is largely based on whether or not the GM runs the optional.

Scarab Sages

Elven Entanglement brings back memories. We played on 10-11 tier and I was playing my level 8 front line melee out of subtier. I only died once. Luckily we had first aid gloves near by.

I have to say at this point of my PFS career I enjoy difficult scenarios. We just played Bonekeep I and we are about to play Bonekeep II in few days. Not much of roleplay in BK, but at least combats are difficult.

I need to check other scenarios mentioned here and play them at some point.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Yeah. Thanks guys! I am really looking forward to my Ranger's final scenarios. I want Demon based deadly ones. No spoilers, but which of the three I mentioned has the best Boss fight? Or at least best Demon Encounters?

Thanks!

Sovereign Court 4/5 5/5 ** Venture-Lieutenant, Netherlands—Leiden

I'm not sure if there's demons in Bonekeep. Maybe.

But Elven Entanglement takes place in Tanglebriar, AKA the place with demons so bad the elves had to come back from another planet to deal with it.

And the Sealed Gate is a key scenario in the Society's efforts to invade the Worldwound.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Mammoth's not as much?

5/5 *****

Mammoths is about finding a place to set up as a base for the worldwound expedition rather than the actual expedition itself.

What was remotely hard about that one? .... :)

Spoiler:
Flutter has fast empathy and vermin hearted, so after it trampled the party, she ran up to it and belly rubbed it. 47 on the wild empathy check to get all 100 legs twitching. Then fed him pigs until we got the elves under control....

It's named after Hrungara - the land where mammoths dare not tread; too close to the Worldwound. Do the math :P

While the scenario is certainly not a walkover, the other two have a reputation for being the deadliest that S5 has to offer. (I still need to play them.)

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Thanks!

Liberty's Edge 2/5

I'm assuming both Mammoths and Sealed Gate both have really cool Demon bosses(At least cool bosses, no spoilers)?

Thanks!
