Building a Level 11 Paladin for Single Event

Advice

I am trying to build a Half Orc Paladin for a one day event we have coming up. This needs to be PFS legal. I have chosen the Hospitaler archetype. The intention is he will be there to protect his twin brother (Barbarian) by using Shield Other spell, channels to heal, additional buff spells, and will still be able to swing a Greatsword to contribute damage.

Here is what I have so far regarding Feats:

Fey Foundling
Power Attack
Improved Initiative
Selective Channel
Extra Channel
Quick Channel

I need help selecting appropriate Traits, and will take advice on my current Feat Selection.

The event is set up as an arena style combat, where we will be battling waves of enemies with little to no downtime.

Fey Foundling
Power Attack
Cleave
Great Cleave
Cleaving Finish
Improved Cleaving Finish
Greater Mercy or Extra Lay on Hands

You will be a ginsu buzzsaw with these feats.

Get the Sanctuary Mercy at lvl6. You can save your own life or your barbarian's life.

Fate's Favored trait causes all luck boni to increase by +1, so Divine Favor spell would become a +4 hit/dmg

Sacred Tattoo is a luck bonus to saves, and synergizes with Fate's favored.

If you are facing wave after wave of mobs, you're going to be generating a ton of free extra attacks whenever you deal a killing blow with cleaves. Make sure your +hit is as high as possible, your cleave stops when you miss.

You can shield other, then tank as much as possible because you're the one with Fey Foundling. LoH yourself as a swift when you need to, and cleave every round.

Every single time you LoH you apply sanctuary, the mob has to overcome a 17ish Will DC or their attack/spell doesn't go off.

Round: Move, Cleave, then Swift LoH at the end of the round if you need to heal yourself to maximize the Sanctuary, because it drops off after you make your next attack.

Also, with +3 from Divine Bond (weapon) and +4 from Divine Favor, you're sitting on a +7 hit/dmg. May the Gods be with thine enemies if you Smite Evil or if you Aura of Justice your Barbarian. I seriously wouldn't take an archetype if I were you. They can't cause dmg to you when they're dead, and you can still heal like a champ with 5d6+10 on LoH with Fey Foundling.

What's your stat buy?

20 point stat buy.

Where would I find Sanctuary Mercy?

In the mercies section, called targeted mercy

I have a question regarding Sanctuary: It states that the target can also not attack. So can this be ended just when I attack, or am I not able to attack, period.

I see what you mean: Move, Attack, LoH to gain Sanctuary. And then I guess on the next round you just follow the same routine...after reading a bit more it seems perfectly reasonable.

The only issue with taking the Cleave line is that it will only work against multiple mobs who are near me.

I have no idea what the set up will be, and I would hate to take multiple feats that are useless part of the time.

That's why you always stay within arms reach of your Barbarian, tank and soak damage for him. And yeah, the sanctuary drops if you attack.

And you have to be within arms length to heal the barbarian with LoH

Magical Knack is pretty good on a paladin, especially if you can get another +1 caster level somewhere to get up to CL 11. High enough for 30 resistance when you cast resist energy as a 1st level slot(oath against fiends).

Reactionary for +2 init. Dangerously Curious for UMD as a class skill, and then picking up a number of low- and mid-level buff scrolls/wands... probably scrolls since its a one-shot.

My Paladin is multi-classed, but it sounds like that's not quite the advice you are looking for. If you are, Oracle 1-3 is a good dip. 1 dip gets you life-link on a single target, 2 would be my suggestion for the familiar advice I mention lower, and 3 would be if you were dual-cursed oracle to pick up both life-link and misfortune. Misfortune will let either of you to reroll a 1 on a failed saving throw, and force a reroll on pretty much every enemy. Assuming you have a GM that rolls in the open and not behind a screen.

I'd also suggest having your "barbarian" twin look into bloodrager, and then swap out its 1st level bloodline power for a familiar... Or simply spending the feats to get a familiar. And then getting a protector familiar. An Arcane Bloodline Bloodrager with a protector familiar will be rocking significant damage reduction in Shield Other (that you don't have to provide), Resist Energy(choose one per rage), and Displacement. Especially if you take the Mercy to remove his Fatigue so he can re-rage and switch to other buffs.

So you can have Life-Link on both the Barbarian and the Familiar, and channel will heal all three of you.

Dropping down to a longsword(in 2 hands) instead of a greatsword will only drop your damage by 2.5 damage per swing. With Power Attack and at least an 18 str (and a +1 weapon) your static damage is +19. Besides being iconic, the reason I am suggesting a Longsword is because of Inheritor's Light(inner sea gods). Its a +1 longsword with some minor abilities, but the important one is that it increases the effect of cure and lay on hands healing on yourself by 1 per die. With Bracers of the Merciful Knight, and only 8 levels of Paladin, you can still heal yourself for 6d6+18.

Since you're going half orc, think about swapping in Orc Atavism and go +4 str -2 Wis

For your point buy, you can do this a couple ways;

16 16 10 10 10 10

Or

16 14 14 10 10 10

Or

14 14 14 14 10 10

Personally, I'd recommend going 16str 14cha 14con 10dex 10int 10wis

And with Orc atavism, get str up to 20 and take a -2 on wis (your will save will be fine with divine grace and fate's favored and sacred tattoo).

With lvl 4 and 8 +1 to ability score, get str to 22. And make sure you have Bull's Str as one of your spells.

You'll end up with a 26 str (8 modifier)

Oradin sounds perfect for this. It's well said that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and with this you get to do both in the same round.

How do you switch out the 1st level Bloodline for a Familiar?

I would go with a Build like this:

Str: 16, Dex: 14, Con: 14, Int: 10, Wis: 10, Cha: 16

Traits:
Magical Knack
Reactionary or Accelerated Drinker

Feats:
Fey Foundling
Power Attack
Combat Reflexes
Improved Initiative
Selective Channel
Flagbearer (Buff that is always up.)

Alternative Bond:
Angelic Bond (Protection from Evil, With +4 Resistance and Deflection Bonus)

Purchases:
+2 Cha Headband
+2 Str Belt (or Extend
Weapon
Good armor
Lesser Extend Rod
Removal scrolls for what you can not Mercy away
Potion of Barkskin, Heroism (Or Knight Pennion)
Potions of Cure Mod or Serious
Wand of Cure Light Wounds
Scroll of Dispel Magic

Do use Shield Other and Reach tactics. Because you're going to be healing with most your action economy, you need to help poke down enemies to end the fight sooner. The only time I recommend full attacking is if the enemy will die in that attack.

A few good spells:

Angelic Aspect- Flight, DR 5/Evil, Resist Cold and Acid 10, Weapons are considered Good Aligned.

Shield Other- You are going to be using this.

Sacred Bond- In case they leave your touch range.

Shield of Fortification, Greater- 50% negates Critical and Sneak Attacks. The Barb should be fine not to be flanked and Sneak attacked...but a Paladin does not have that built in comfort.

Most bloodlines can trade it for a bloodline familiar. You'll find the rules for it under bloodline familiars.

I think a pei xin oracle would be better for this, getting only a standard action casting spells is better than just doing 1 attack.

THOUGH the lv 11 power of a normal paladin to give smite to his team/brother is very strong.

Specifically familiar folio, and only for Aberrant, Abyssal, Arcane, Celestial, Destined, Draconic, Elemental, Fey, Infernal, and Undead bloodlines.
